Funny enough I was gonna say why call $14 with A456,  you need top 2 pars, trips or nut flush draw to do anything
with this hand

I wouldn't have called preflop unless it was only $4 to see it

Also you may know branko as an agressive fish in NLHE comps but he could be an expert PLO cash player.

Actually that hand would be in my group 2 of starting hands. Its better than hands like QQ79 and JJ68. Lots of people think high pairs have to see a flop but i look at it completely differently. Three running cards with a suited Ace is a good enough starting hand to call a single raise.

As for after the flop. I muck. I may try and get clever with it if there are no diamonds but not with the flush draw there as well.... even if you are in front there are too many hands that will still be favourite over yours.

Wow Ben comenting on here, what a place.

I like the hand pre flop, 3 to a run suited to an ace.

On the flop i make a stubborn call.

[Mar 26 00:07:51] : Flush Royal called $46
[Mar 26 00:07:52] : Dealing turn.
[Mar 26 00:07:52] : Board cards [ ]
[Mar 26 00:07:56] : branko bet $138

Now i pick up a 3rd pair but also the nut spade draw, he comes out full pot, eek str8 is possible.

What now?

I would call having got this far but would strongly suspect that the flush is your only way out. He's betting like he has top set probably coupled with the nut diamond draw. I put him on something like x.

Then again he might just be a total maniac with a pair of aces.

I really like Mr Grundys 'guess my hand' section on his blog, maybe he or someone could paste them onto here with his permission?

[Mar 26 00:07:57] : Flush Royal called $138
[Mar 26 00:07:58] : Dealing river.
[Mar 26 00:07:58] : Board cards [ ]
[Mar 26 00:08:03] : branko bet $414

Now i only have $86 back so ignore the 414!!!

At this point i couldnt put him on a hand that bets the river, other than a missed draw, with me flat calling all the way i think he had me on a draw so felt he could take this.

I made the call:

[Mar 26 00:08:11] : Flush Royal called $86 and is All-in
[Mar 26 00:08:12] : Showdown!
[Mar 26 00:08:12] : Seat 2 : Flush Royal has As
[Mar 26 00:08:14] : Seat 4 : branko has three diamonds
[Mar 26 00:08:14] : branko has Pair: Kings
[Mar 26 00:08:14] : Flush Royal has Two Pair: and
[Mar 26 00:08:14] : Flush Royal wins $583 with Two Pair: and
[Mar 26 00:08:24] : Hand is over.

Now i think i played the hand very badly, but i got lucky and it all worked out. However i want to know can we class someone as enough of a maniac in PLO to be able to make these calls resonable, cearly i simple had the word nutter printed on my head when it came to Branko but in truth i hadnt played him enough to give myself the reasoning behind these calls.

I think this is a nice illustration of why you might consider passing on the flop, even though you suspect you have the best hand. You cant really play many turns with confidence, unless you have a stealla read on the guy.. like "the guy only plays this way preflop with AAxx". There are certainly many people that DO play AAxx this way, but all you have as a read so far is that he is aggressive, and he has kept his aggression.. so ur praying on the flop that all he has is the NFD... because by the turn, its completed most reasonable *other* draws, and if he isn't drawing, his made hand has you crushed.

Given better reads, ur hand is fine to play to the river, but when ur read is merely "he is super aggressive" theres too many combo's for him to have that scare you on the turn.

The hand is more then fine to call with preflop though, not sure why people are saying fold preflop.

nice pot, glad it all worked out

in all honesty, he did hold the nut diamond flush draw so making these initial large bets would have made sense. the bet on the final card was maybe to throw you off the pot but since the pot was massive then it was certainly worth a call to see the showdown.
