Ouch.  One of the worst 'good laydowns' I've seen in a while. 

I think its a natural phase in poker progression though, you're thinking about the game enough to find cause to lay that hand down, you just need to move on to the next step and realise why you can't lay it down. 

The key is the pot odds and the range of hands your opponent may be playing.  You have him pegged as tight and with the betting I would think he could be holding any pair from JJ to AA and also AK.  You have 3-1 odds and you are big favourite against any of the range but AA.  Even if you think 50% of the time (way too high) he is going to flip AA then you still have to call.

See Harrington for a more expansive discussion on situations like this.  And call next time.  Unless you are facing me, then I have AA every time.
