I am going to start playing in a casino soon, what tips can you give me so I don't get gobbled up by sharks on my first visit?

It is quite a big jump from friendly home games to the strict casino atmosphere. It would be best to play online at a site such as universitypokerleague.com and gain experience of exactly how the betting etiquette works. When you are comfortable online, all you have to worry about is passing your hole cards in at the end of each hand. My one other tip is to always say what you want to do, 'call' or 'raise' before handling your chips. If you are raising, say how much you want to raise. Some of the sharks may start getting clever with the stupid 'string bet' rule. It was specifically designed to make beginners feel awkward and has no practical purpose whatsoever. Just ignore them and make sure you enjoy it.
