Every now and then I can't watch some video footage on the iPhone. Is there an app or something I can do to watch this stuff

Very soon Flash support will be dropped for Android devices as well (and Windows mobile). With mobile taking a bigger and bigger share of all Internet traffic any website with video will need to provide it in a different format to Flash, usually HTML 5.

So it should be a problem you'll come up against less and less.

Just paid £1.99 for the app and it looks like it will do the job.... Just need to suss out how the hell I use it now.
