Title: DaveShoelace's Super Hot All Time OMG Fantastic Biscuit Thread
Post by: DaveShoelace on July 03, 2010, 08:27:23 AM
In honour of Tank and taking the smutt out of blonde, here is a tribute to all my favourite biscuits. Ambiguous 'are they biscuits, are they cake, are they chocolate bars?' are more than welcome. Feel free to post your own.

Up first, the one I always go for first in a foxes biscuit tin, followed by taking the first layer off the top, taking them out of the bottom layer then replacing the original layer to give the impression we have only started on the top layer: The jammy dodger

Can you buy a pack of just sport biscuits?

What are they called? I'm completely sold and I want some.

Sorry Rich, no wrappers, when I said collectors element I just meant a collectors appeal, you cant actually keep them (unless you don't eat them).

Couple of great picks there...

On the weekly shop there is always this:

2 x Fox's Jam Sandwich Creams
1 x Sports Biscuit
1 x Marks ans Spencer Digestives

(No surprise I've put on 2 stone in a year).  This thread wont help.

I need help on one, a biccy I loved as a kid that I dont know what they are called.

They were rectangular with a cocunuty marshmallow coating on top, this coating was shaped in 6 equal circles in rows of two and were either pink or yellow.

Found it pretty much by typing the description above into google, they were called Jacob's Mikado. Probably havent had one for 25 years but always seemed to have them at kids parties, I used to like to eat the marshmellow first without denting the biscuit (I did the same with the chocoloate on twixs back in the day but Im too old for that shit now).

Unless, I'm mistaken, the first picture in OP is of a Jam Cream and not a jammy dodger.

I just pointed at my OP and my missus said it was a jammy dodger, then I said everyone said it wasnt and she said 'actually technically it isnt a jammy dodger'

If she has lied to me about this, what else has she lied to me about?

Ok let's point you in the right direction on this very important thread. The question often asked is biscuit or cake? When a biscuit is stale it goes soft. When cake goes stale it goes hard. I hope that clears things up.

Me and my flatmate used to do this when we went shopping. When we went into Mozzy's we would both select the same item that we didnt want and had to dump it in sumbodys basket/trolley. If you didnt offload ur item then u had to pay for it at the end of the shop!

First of all you are entertained by the picture of sports, often I would pump my fist in the air and scream 'come on local sports team' in triumph before I realised it was s static image of stick men. Secondly there is a collectors element to it, often you will see a rare sport like lacross which doesnt figure much in sports biscuit history, other times I like to rifle through the box to find a boxing or football biscuit and have that before anything else. Finally they taste well nice when you dunk them in tea.

I'n sure these had cow's on when I was a lad.

Some great choices on here, I'm gonna have a think.

In the meantime, take a finger or twix, bite off both ends leaving as much as possible to eat. Now take a hot cup of tea and use the twix as a straw and suck until the tea reaches your mouth thru the biscuit.  The resulting biscuit is total heaven

your welcome

only way to eat a party ring is to suck the icing off first - goes all nice and crystillized.  bit sickly for me generally though.

kimberley's are lovely - got quite addicted to them when I was shacked up with an irish dude many years ago

One of my best mates is an Aussie and he went crazy about tim-tams, his family used to send them in the post for him, they used to hide them in other things because I dont think they were allowed to send food in the post. I finally had one after about 3 years of hearing how great they were and yep, very much like penguins, not bad.

Should probably also menrion the yank biscuit, the Oreo. Been widely available over here for a few years as part of the gradual Americisation of our fine land.
Our American cousins love this biscuit, either they're deeply entrenched in the American way of life or they have a wizz of a PR agency or both. There's been countless references to this biscuit in popular culture, including of course our very own Rounders. What looks like a film about poker is actually a film about poker and biscuits.

*picture of Oreo biscuits would go here were it not for aforementioned phone thing*

I don't see the fascination with the things personally. They're not to my taste, I'll eat them but would probably swerve if another biscuit was available.
My life loves the things, and my daughter attacks them with the same fervour as my old Labrador would attack a pig's ear. Full of chemicals I'm guessing.

Onto the debate about what should be considered a biscuit and what should not. My rule is pretty much if you can buy one unit individually in a newsagent, its not a biscuit. So a mars bar is not a biscuit, but a Trio is. Controversially a twix is not a biscuit, and an individual twix in a pack of five twixs is also not a biscuit (My logic here is that if you can consider that a biscuit you can, by the same token, consider fun sized mars bars a biscuit and even worse, a celebration.

So without further ado, a classic biscuit that looks like a chocolate bar, a 54321.

Uber chewy and the advert was great

Can I move that word 'reputable' be added to proceed newsagent in your biscuit definition so as to make it more universal?

There were some tinky newsagents up my bit wot sold individual Trios and the like.

Ginger nut is an odd one for me, they are the sort of biccy I avoid and will always opt for something else in a selection type box, however when I do have one I usually have about 20 in a row, very moorish and undoubtedly a great companion to a cup of tea

Really ?

Look at some of the benefits -

"A Sweet Way to Lose Weight

Figs are a good source of dietary fiber. Fiber and fiber-rich foods may have a positive effect on weight management. In one study, women who increased their fiber intake with supplements significantly decreased their energy intake, yet their hunger and satiety scores did not change. Figs, like other high fiber foods, may be helpful in a weight management program.

Fruit and Cereal Fiber Protective against Postmenopausal Breast Cancer

Results of a prospective study involving 51,823 postmenopausal women for an average of 8.3 years showed a 34% reduction in breast cancer risk for those consuming the most fruit fiber compared to those consuming the least. In addition, in the subgroup of women who had ever used hormone replacement, those consuming the most fiber, especially cereal fiber, had a 50% reduction in their risk of breast cancer compared to those consuming the least. Int J Cancer. 2008 Jan 15;122(2):403-12.

Fruits richest in fiber include apples, dates, figs, pears and prunes. When choosing a high fiber cereal, look for whole grain cereals as they supply the most bran (a mere 1/3rd cup of bran contains about 14 grams of fiber)."
