2074  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: 888.com Poker bootcamp - anyone been on one? on: July 27, 2007, 05:18:58 PM
I went on the first one for work as I write for WPT magazine. There's a feature about it in our next issue (Joe Sebok cover)

As i said to the sik tilt guys who were there filiming it even if you only take a couple of things away from the course then that will cover the cost in the long run. Also the course reminded me of a lot of things that i'd learnt previously but either forgotten or put to the back of my mind.

Neil Channing's cash lecture is superb and Tom Sambrook's discussion of Tournament Fallacies was thought provaking which, lets face it, is always better than just sitting there nodding.

I'd say the course would suit players who consider themsleves advanced beginners and are looking to take there game to the next stage, the most complicated issues discussed on the course were things like ICM and confidence intervals (standard deviation et al).

The best thing about the course though is that you're with 40 like minded individuals who want to learn, there are also numerous opportunities to speak to instructors one on one. I'm still in touch with some people from the course and I know some of them who went on it clubbed together and are getting lessons for Dr Tom. If you want any more info about specifics PM me.
2075  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Harry Potter on: July 19, 2007, 04:23:05 PM
I've read all of the books and seen the first three films. I think the series as a whole has gone downhill since the fourth book which is IMO the best - it had the right mix of darkness, action and hell it wasn't 700 pages long - the fifth and sixth books seemed to take hundreds of pages to get going and just weren't as exciting. JK is a smart girl to end the series before it jumps the shark.

Under/Over on how many 'major characters' snuff it. Can't see Harry getting rubbed out, as that closes a few too many doors.

2077  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Playing WSOP Event - help needed! on: June 25, 2007, 05:55:53 PM
I believe all the $1500 events have had over 2000 entrants and all of them have had a list of alternates. So if you turn up at 11.55a.m, you might find yourself on a list of alternates and not seated until near the end of the first level. If you've got a mate who can buy you in (not sure if this is possible anyway) then i'd try that.
2078  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Betting on a player WSOP Main event..Any ideas? on: June 22, 2007, 02:51:24 PM
Blue Sq have a market - i know because i put a few punts on yesterday - there appeared to be a few 'randoms' towards the very bottom of the list, no doubt these are players who've requested odds so they can have a punt on themselves.
2079  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Who misplayed this hand the most? on: June 21, 2007, 04:36:23 PM
This situation raises a very interesting point though.......

Min raising gives the bb a chance to become the aggressor and potentially win the pot uncontested.....why afford your shorter-stacked opponent that luxury?

True, min raising is certainly a worse move than shoving or folding, I believe I made such a raise because I figured a min raise was essentially a shove as if maximum raised then i was calling, so yes, why not shove if i'm calling an all-in and put the pressure on him.

This raises another point totally O/T, Mantis, do you think the above logic follows in the situation where you check call OOP on the flop or turn (obv it depends, but in general). I mean if you're going to call a bet why not bet out and gain more info about your opponents hand. Obv, you may want to check call say, with a flush draw or to 'mix it up, or even check/call with the intention to lead the turn (4th Street thief i call that).

Eight left, anyone know anywhere you can bet on this? There are two online heads up sickos left in and i reckon they might be at a longer price than they should:

FYI: Dan Schreiber plays as Rekrul online and Keith Block is known as Dr Fells.
2081  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: PLO on: June 21, 2007, 03:49:13 PM
Hi,

I don't play Omaha but I believe Rolf Slootboom has written a very good book on it. Bob Ciffone and CLoutier and McEvoy also have written titles on it too and there's a chapter in the New Full Tilt Tournament Strategy Book, wriitten by Matusow I believe. No doubt Omaha players like Floppy and Ironside will know if any of the above books are worth it or not.

Go to Amazon search for Omaha titles, there should be some reviews there.

In the meantime here's a couple of links to omaha strategy articles on Pocketfives, there's probably similar on 2+2

Thx for the responses Mantis and Sword, I x-posted this on another forum and replied there with my thoughts, btw my default play is to fold here, why get involved when i have a seat 100% locked up.

I actually think both myself and the big blind played this horrendously, him more so than me as it's his tournament life on the line.
I have absolutely no need to get involved here, none. I have a seat locked up, i should've gone for a walk or something. Although folding A-K seems increadibly weak here, we probably shouldn't get involved with anything here including aces (although we're shoving in that spot right). Now the BB's mistake IMO is that he has no need to get involved either he has a stack where he too can fold to the seat (After i lost this hand i was still 20/34 with 4000 so he's higher with 5000 chips ). Now whilst my min-raise isn't exactly a good play, it isn't 'wrong' either, because any raise here, be it a min raise or a shove, committs me to the hand so the BB has no fold equity. So why put your tournament life on the line in a coin-flip when you can fold 100% to a seat???
This is a turbo sat 5 min blinds and we're playing hand for hand. As stars gives you a 60sec time bank then at this stage obv all the shorties are stalling like crazy (as are the big stacks) so you get about 2 hands a blind level. So...if the bb in this hand lets the blinds pass through him he still has 3200 left and 7 hands to wait till he's got to post again, which all things being equal means he won't have to play another hand due to others being forced to before him. But I've certainly seen enough crazy stuff happen in satellites that make the BBs play ok.

FWIW I think if the button shoves I fold, not sure about the BB would've though. But the thing is the button has no business shoving here as he too can fold to a seat.

I just really thought this hand was interesting becuase in a satellite context it plays completely different to a tournament.

Stars Round Two satellite $50+$5 f/o one ticket for every $225, 30 tickets in this particular satellite. Avg will be 6k with 30 left. Currently c.36 left (definitely not more, but could've been 34 left). So yeah who messed up the most (i think i know and why) but opinions welcome.

a) Me
b) maximum8282
c) both of us
d) the button - he should shove ATC
e) the cut-off - it's the new button he should shove ATC
f) UTG - it's the newest button he's BB next he should shove ATC

There is an online adjustement built in: there's simply a box where you put a y or n in. I'll pm you the link to the site where you can download the spreadsheet.

Tikay by the way I don't know the structure of the Bellagio Cup Events as the $1000+ entry fee is far too high for me. I imagine Rob S amongst others will be able to fill you in though.

Btw on July 2nd/3rd Binions is holding $500 NLHE events with 10,000 chips and 40 minute levels.
