Nobody answered the question in the thread title, I see.

Let us imagine it's 3 or 4 years ago.

Man U are playing the last game of the season v Liverpool, the score is 0-0 in stoppage time.

3 points will get Man U in the Champions League, 1 point is not enough.

Man U score an "accidental goal" in similar circumstances, so the players allow a walk-in by Man City.

What would Sir Alex say & think about that?


He would probably say "How the hell have we just let Man City score that goal when we are playing Liverpool?"

This whole 'kicking the ball out' thing is stupid anyway. If a player is badly enough injured that he requires immediate medical attention then the ref will stop the game. Players can then decide if they want to contest the drop ball at the restart if one team clearly had possession.

This whole rigmarole is to give the illusion of gentlemanliness - 'oooh look how noble and sporting we are' then ten seconds later someone will pretend to be fouled to win a penalty.
