Snoopy,Jen - not sure if you heard but I met with all the Scouse lads at the beginning of day 1A.
Apparently there was an incident on Thursday night after Ian got to a FT of an event at the Grosvenor.
One of his mates not playing was filling up his drink with double shots of vodka whilst playing so he
got a bit 'out of order' and apparently roughly handled a dealer.

They were shown CCTV footage of the incident and he has been barred from Walsall hence his non
appearance at Day 1.

Its a real bummer as he is a good player and i backed him at 200/1 - most will remember that he came 3rd
at Bolton.

Anyway - hope he doesn't get a universal grosvenor ban.

 Managed to get through yesterday with exactly ave chips (26.5K).....blinds 600/1200 antes 100, when we return Saturday....so no hanging around!.
 Found it pretty tiring.... 9 one hour levels, and being there from 4pm to 4am... but a great stucture,and fun to play poker without constantly worrying about the clock.
Must give a quick mention to Micky Wernick....first time I've played with him and I have to say what a really great guy to listen to at 3 in the morning!

Howdy, folks. Took Jen and I 70 minutes to get here when normally it's a 30 min max jobby, so the delayed start is inevitable.

Well, they're sensibly making an accommodating compromise for the 30 or so players who haven't got here yet (while the reserves are poised to jump in the empty seats).  15 minutes til start, then.  I'll go get some photos or something.

Saw Flushy earlier looking at the TV screens, where they have the players listed as 171 but the blinds haven't been reset from their 600/1,200 level from yesterday.  He was rubbing his hands together, saying, "Grosvenor have finally listened to my points for improvement - starting the blinds at 6/12 so you skip all that deepstack rubbish and go straight to the pushing bit.  I love it."

We'll have a final number on entries when they do eventually start, but it looks like the whole Bluesquare GUKPT tour is already a sell-out monster (4 days now at each location).

I had to resist the crappy geographical gag when Ariston came in and asked, "Where's Dubai?"

Gala Notts regular Pete Linton, simply PeteL on blonde, is up to 13.5k after taking a nice pot off Warren Wooldridge. Warren bet 325 into an Aspades 4s 8c Flop, only for Pete to re-raise and Warren to call. Turn was 9s, Warren checked, Pete bet 1.7k an Warren called. After both players checked the 2h River, Pete revealed his A-8o and took the pot.

This chap is the amusingly named M Moronpachon, who has just doubled up leaving Nigel Ung with a paltry 500 chips.

I joined the action with the board reading Qh 6c Ahrt Jd 2s. Nigel made a smallish bet of 2k, only for Moronpachon to move all-in for an extra 2k. Nigel called, showed an Ace, but quickly mucked when his opponent revealed Pocket Sixes, to the surprise of no one.

Every time I go over to Table 14, Mad Turk is sticking chips into the pot. And my last outing was no different, Turk calling a pre-flop raise (along with one other) with J-9.

Turk smooth called the 1k bet on the 9-9-3 Flop, checked the Jack Turn, before betting 1.7k on the River, which was called, the caller being a rather disgruntled initial raiser with Aces.

Dubai made "his standard raise" (according to Pete Linton), Dave Clark raised to 1k, Mark Hawkins called and Dubai moved all-in for another 2.8k. Dave Clark flat-called, Hawko moved all-in and Clark called again.

Cockney talking Norwegian blooger and, would you believe it, former pro' comedian BA Kildalen has just added a few chips to his stack after calling a River bluff from Nik Hicks.

The board read 5d Jd 7s 7c. BA bet 600, Nik called and Colin Knapp folded. BA then checked the 2d River before calling Nik's 1.6k bet with J-To. Nik tapped the table and mucked without showing his cheeky bluff.

Greek Jack was the 99 against JP's AK... Apart from that, JP had been steadily accumulating chips with a continuous raise policy, while at the same time managing to avoid the potshots taken at him by the other players (including checking 88 the last two streets on a 5-T-T-T-5 board and being shown Queens).  So he seems happy that he's (a) playing well and (b) approaching average chips for Day Two.

Steve Jelinek isn't too happy that his 10% keeps going out first hand. It's happened before, and then again yesterday, so I think he's reconsidering his investment on who we are now calling, 'One Hand Rumit'.

The chip lead has a surprise new tenant - Ed Giddens, who's had "three big hands" in quick succession to reach the 30k mark first...

1)  He held T-Q and went for a call of 600 on a 4-8-9 flop, which brought, on the turn, a flush draw, and on the river, a Queen-high flush, which he was paid to the tune of 1,500.  This story was prefaced with, "I called with a gutshot," and I was fully expecting that to be hit at the end of the story and consider a flush, though higher-ranking, to be a poor substitute.

2)  His 3s 3d spiked a set on the flop, eventually getting the whole stack of the Jc Js who was against him.

3)  He saw a 7-handed limp flop(!) on the Button with 6-8.  Extraordinarily, the A-6-3 flop was checked round.  The turn brought another Six, and Ed Giddens faced a tight player betting out 600, another rock* raising to 1,500, and a call from Burnley John.  So what seemed like the best plan?  Min raise- of course!  This resulted, somehow, in three passes, including a Six in Burnley's hand. 

*I would just like to add that all player categorisation is Ed Giddens' own.

He's decided to call under the gun with 5h 7h, so the raise to 500 is obviously following when it happens (blinds were 50/100 at the time).
Flop:  6d 9h Jc  Looking good!  His opponent, Jonathan Farrer (I think) bets 800 when it's checked to him, and Mark raises then to 2,600.  Flat call.
Turn:  9s  Now Mark has to keep up the story, right?  Bets out 2,600.  Flat call.  (Strange and Stranger.) It's about now that I can imagine a certain resignation descending on Mr. Herron, as he realises he only has 2,300 left.
River:  8d (Hallelujah - Probably) In any case, the last bit goes in and is called, and the Gutshot straight (which was the winning hand, as it turned out) pushed him up to the top of the field in chips while Jonathan has just a couple of thousand left.

Smyth bets 2.5k, Hossell makes it 5k and Smyth, after a slight huff (although I believe it was genuine) moved all-in for an extra 2.8k.

Alistair Woods bets out on the flop of:  Js 4s 5c - John calls.
Turn:  4h.  Alistair checks, now Burnley bets 1,100.  Call.
River:  8d.  Check again, now John makes it 1,600.  Eventually Alistair calls and gets to see the 6s 8s with which John called, hit, and in the end took the pot.

we're back folks, and just as they were being reseated, Flushy informs me that he took JP down to 11k on one of the last hands before din dins, thereby adding a few more to his stack in the process.

Limping with 9s 8s, Flushy smooth called JP's pre-flop raise before check calling on the Kc 9d 2s Flop. Flushy then checked in the dark as the Turn brought the 6s only to re-raise JP's bet all-in. JP folded claiming he had Q-T for a gutshot straight draw.

As a result, the Wonderkid is down too 11k, whilst Flushy jumps up to 31.

"I was making the play whatever the Turn came," claimed Flushy.

That's what stomping does.

Cards are in the air again.  A BBQ quesadilla later, and some ice cream in an edible basket for Snoopy ("Ice cream is good for camaraderie," noted BA, in a phrase probably never before heard in the Walsall Chiquitos) and we're back too.

That hand which took a bunch off JP has left him with enough to be getting on with, but without the cushion which his earlier play had produced for him.  "I was down to 6k at one point," helps Nik Persaud (who was also encouraging Kelly to play online until breakfast today).

Richard Owen, or Jack the Rack as the Welsh contingent prefer to call him, is OUT, making his swan song with A-K vs K-K, all-in pre-flop.

Jeff Buffenbarger has doubled up after surviving a K-Q vs Hossell's Q-J encounter (J-9-6-Q-5 board). Unfortunately he's still only on 3,850, but he remains confident. "One more of those and I'm back in the game," he exclaims.

Not everyone here is a veteran and whiz at the game like Flushy, like this chap pictured below, Mike O'Donnell, who only started playing the game on 1st Jan of this year.

He's still in, but he's only got 2,225, and that's probably reflected in the sour expression that's plastered across his face. He released a smile aftewards though.

And the quiet man on Table Bansi is this chap, Jay Patel, who I recognise as a Walsall regular. Don't think he's won much, but you never know, could surprise a few Walsallonians (is that a word?) come Sunday.

A poster on blonde (chrisbruce, imaginatively), I first met Chris in Notts where he often plays down the local Gala. He also attended the Ladbrokes Poker Cruise a few years back, so he knows how to qualify for events. A dark horse perhaps...

 Back on table Blogger and BA Kildalen gets involved with Nick Hicks - again.  Right at the start he asked me if there was anyone he didn't already know that he should keep an eye on, and I said, "that guy in the hat."  About two levels on, and BA had picked off that early bluff from Nick, whom he said, "plays like a Scandie," which is, I believe, a compliment...

Anyway, they see a flop of Jh 9c Ks, and I think (although please correct me if I'm wrong) it was checked.  The pot wasn't big, in any case, when the 2h came on the turn.  BA checked, Nick bet 1,100, BA called. 
River:  6s Check again, Nick just shows his Jc Kh, resisting the possible value bet (oddly?).  BA shows Kh Qh, which must have looked better on the turn.

We've been sidetracked by the lovely Liz, who knows everyone, everything, and, worryingly, has the power to ban us if we step out of line.  So, in between talking about Michael Greco and tikay (hello tikay) and about 3,000 other things, I managed to take a picture:

John Hewston did indeed double up to 22k when his Aces Flopped an Ace against Jacks. He's now on 20k.

Chicken Joe has knocked down Praz Pansi down to 13.5k.

I caught the action at the end where Praz called a bet on the River of a 4c Kd 9d 7s 8d board, only for his Kings to be outdone by Joe's Ad 5d.

"That was a shit call by me," confessed Praz, obviously knowing deep down that his opponent had made his hand.

Stephen Lennon has jumped up to 20k after taking down Mateyboy with Jacks v Eights, T-4-6-2-7 board.

Here's one of permanently-cheerful Paul King I took earlier.  It really seems like one in three comps he plays he's a short stack until the final two hours of the tourney, in which he doubles up twice, makes the final with ten big blinds and comes fourth.  What I'm saying is, he's quite capable of going right through to the end, under the radar, if he doesn't get a chance for a big stack.  And also that my recollection of tournaments might merge into one giant one, played at a kind of amalgamation of Luton and the Rio. 

Here's a pic of Praz with characteristic visor.  Good to see that he's not just permanently 'unlucky' when he loses a hand - he seems to genuinely analyse hands rather than waste time crying over spilt milk.

Big hand for Marc Goodwin, who gave a totally convincing impersonation (to me) of a player re-stealing from the blinds - putting an extra 7,000 over the top of Matey's preflop raise.  He found a push in against him, and either this player (whom we thought was Driton Haxhiaj but probably wasn't seeing as he had 2k last time Snoopy reported) was really, really tight or Marc saying "Oh deary me," was on his opponent's behalf...

JP calls off another chunk of chips:  A rather optimistic Ahrt 4h bets 5k on the river with the board Js Ad 5h 3d Kd, which is actually over a third of JP's stack (although he's hoarded 25 and 100 chips into giant towers which might confuse the unwary)... he goes into a deep tank, running through hands which his opponent could have, staring the hell out of him and generally thinking and thinking until time was called and he'd come to a decision.  The Ace was good, however, and he mucked his hand, muttering with wry smile, "I guess you qualified online, huh?"

Funnily enough, I remember back over a year ago when Jon Hewston said something very similar to JP at Sheffield...made Flushy cackle like a witch though.

James Atkin is no more - saw him standing up and it looked like that was my cue to come watch some chips change hands...when I got there it appeared James wasn't in bad shape, all in over the top of Con Cronin (who held 9c 9d) with his Js Jc...It was up to John Conroy to call all-in, however, before he saw what they had, and eventually he decided he'd been priced in and called with Aspades Qs.

This blond guy (I think he might be Danish - we have a player/blogger following three Danes and the tournament in general in here today) just got a double through from Liam Flood - there'd been some hefty preflop action - looked like 8-10k in the middle - before the 9h 4h 5s flop appeared.  Liam bet out 3,000, and blonde Matey moved in for another 7,300.  He considered the pot and the Aspades Kd (which is what he had) and called the rest.
Matey held Ahrt Ac, and with the Ks Js coming next, doubled up to nearly 30k.

Just as I was starting to describe BA Kildalen as a "Scandie rock" to the press corps, we were brought a story of his doubling up from a dwindly 11k to 22k.  OK, so it was with Aspades Ad, but he got action from 9d 9h on a K-T-rag flop somehow, all-in over the top of Matey's 3k bet. 

"That Unabomber hoody guy just doubled up," was the introduction...

AND Martyn Cavanagh is out...

He raised to 1,200, Ash moved all in for 14k.  Pass
Next round, he raised again, to 1,200. Ash all in.  Pass.
Now, a few hands later, Martyn finds Js Jd and raises to 1,600  Ash moves all in.  A story from Iwan comes back to Martyn about how Ash did exactly the same thing to him, and eventually the third time he called and found Ash with Aces, busting himself.  Martyn called anyway, found the Ad Aspades and is now on the rail.  Mr. Hussain continues to yoyo his stack.  Still one of my picks to win (along with BA, and Praz, although I think JP might have met his end.....)

Dan Owston has been ousted by this chap, Paul Dobson, who is now one of the chip leaders with precisely 65,725.

Meanwhile, blondeite Chris Bruce has just received a massive double up off Rug (the youngster down to the felt as a result) after his Pocket Jacks stood up against Rug T-9 on a 9-3-4 rainbow Flop. Turn and River brought two Sixes.

It was a 70k pot in the end and, seeing that Rug's T-9 was suited, I'm assuming that he raised pre-flop.

Jerome Bradpiece eliminates two short stacks, going for it preflop with Qs Qc and finding himself in a commanding position against Ad Ks and Ac Kh... It only got better for him as the board came: rag rag rag Qh Qd (I wasn't paying any attention to the flop after the turn arrived)....

And BA Kildalen loses the lot in two goes, the first chunk hurting more, as it involved getting all in on a board of 3-6-6-T with T-T (comfortably ahead of the J-J against him) only for the river (so cruel) to bring that Jack. 
Then it was a matter of re-raising 7k from the blinds with 6d 6s and finding Ahrt Qd willing to gamble.  He had to wait for the painful part of the deal this time too:

Flushy check-called 2.5k on the Aspades Turn, and then (I think) another bet on the 4s River, only to find that he'd lost to the perhaps suprising holding of Js 7s.

Guess that's what you can do when you have as many chips of Shaf, but Flushy wasn't happy and not particularly complimentary in that unmistakable Flushy way. Bless his cotton socks.

That's about it; they're racing off the orange 25 chips, and then there'll be a redraw... we'll get the full list of counts whenever they appear.
