It was part of a decently long tease etc with another advert (not 'explicit' that it was for VW...) having him talk about being bored of showbiz and looking for a new job.

German idea of a Christmas ad, I guess, since the 'reveal' was on German Xmas eve...

Prolly paid closer to a million euros I would guess.
