Title: Fry an egg on a car bonnet
Post by: Sark79 on June 20, 2006, 11:49:16 AM
Is this actually possible in the UK?  or is it just a story that gets told.  I can't really remember the weather  ever being hot enough in this country to do this.   When I was on the train earlier, I saw some hens in an enclosure from the window while zooming past.  I began to consider the best way to cook an egg.

I did cook an egg by cracking it onto the road outside my house when I was a kid - it took about 10 minutes. It was a heatwave in Bermuda & I had to wear trainers for a few days because the road, sand & rocks were too hot to walk on. Normally I went about barefoot from May to September.

I think you would be a bit optimistic in Scotland.

Next time there is a hot sunny day (if ever) try it.  You will either finish up with a nice fried egg sandwich or people will think your a raving nutcase...... err what do you mean they do already :)

PS  Make sure you find a non-stick car.

I was up in Bonnybridge week before last and it was hot enough to fry a mixed grill on a car bonnet, then the UFO's came, sshh

Those damm UFO's. They mess everything up. One flew past my friend and I once when we were putting up a tent. Very very loud things they are. Fox Moulder never explained that about them.

i tried this at a mates house, he has a black metal balcony and one summer when it was scorching we chucked an egg on it and it cooked in no time, it was so hot the girls could make indentations in the concrete on the balcony floor with their heels.

The reason this post amused me was the coincidental width of my internet browser. It was necessary for me to scroll down before reading the last word.

Prior to doing so, my imagination was running in overdrive.

I was born there, and lived there till I was 10. Went back for the first time in 25 years last year & remembered so much of it.

I lived in St Georges, next to what was the 2nd hole of the Holiday Inn's golf course & about 400 yards from Tobacco Bay.

St Georges is a bit run-down now, the Holiday Inn was badly designed (windows all caving in every Hurricane), so they only get tourist money when the docks at Hamilton are full & the overflow comes to St Georges - but that means it's like it was when I was a kid.   ;goodvevil; If I could get national status (no chance) I'd want to live in St Georges.

Ah well you would have seen my old house then. I left when I was 10, but used to go with my Dad to the Police Club & the RA (Royal Artillery)  Club (we were usually the only white folk in the RA Club).

Was in the Robin Hood last year - but did most drinking in the Docksiders - they had all the football on.

Went back to the RA last year, walked in & got looked at - fat bald REALLY white tourists don't end up in there often. Got a beer ($4), then commented that it hadn't changed much & that the monkey cage (they used to havce a cage for the pet monkey one of the regulars bought in with him) was gone.

When I told them who I was another beer appeared "Sorry man, I should have charged you local rates"  :D . In the end up I'd to almost do a runner - before I wasn't fit to leave. Rum & Heinekin - one round every 10 minutes, and guys sneaking out to call people I'd went to school with or who knew my folks - I kinda think I should have stayed - I'd have found a place to stay.

i keep meaning to go back and visit , but you know how it is...one year turns into 20  lol

had a mate come and visit while i was out there.took him to the back of town where the old shanty town was.....he ran screaming when a very large black (can i say that?) gentleman carrying a machete came out of an alley.he was a workmate of mine and we had set my mate up a treat.used to spend a lot of time there as i prefered the company of the rastas to the local white onions who i mostly found to be very intolerable to the local black populace.
spring break was the time to be there , all the cruise liners bringing mummys and daddys precious little girls to bermuda to keep them out of trouble...hubba hubba.........i have never met such straight talkin girls as those that came out visiting...not only would they tell you what they wanted you to do , they would tell you how many times !
