Start of play has been delayed by a football match which has apparently over-run.

We expect to start within 15 minutes of the footie finishing.

We are hoping to have a special Guest Updater tonight if he is available - Wayne Rooney. Apparently he is doing his best to get here asap.

At present, there are 96 confirmed runners, thats 16 tables, split into two flights of 8 tables each.

Flight Two will start at around 9pm, even if Flight One is not complete by then.

There are a good few poeople here, all oohing & aahing as they watch the football, which is apparently England v Some Foreign Cheating Buggers. Or so I'm told.

Why did they send Roony off? I thought you were allowed to go for the tackle.

For those who did not do geography at school, Bolton is a suburb of Bolton, between Manchester & Liverpool sort-of-ish. Or between a rock & a hard place I guess.

We (sloppy & I) had a most interesting chat with the taxi driver who took us from the station to the hotel, we chatted away merrily the whole way, & his total contribution was when we arrived & he mumbled  "£4".

And when we arrived at the rather posh & lovely Grosvenor Casino in Moor Lane, there were 3 staff behind the Reception Desk, so sloppy went to the end one, a pretty young lady, who promptly told him "I'm not on Reception". Welcome to Bolton, as they say.

It's like Online Poker - it's rigged.

Whilst a motley crew is watching the footie and waiting for us to lose on penalties, may I take this opportunity to have a rant.

Often, I travel up to these British destinations, seated uncomfortably in my traffic surrounded Ford Fiesta, continually wondering why on Earth I don't take the trains.

So, several weeks ago, I decided to make the change and befriend Virgin.

For a while, everything was hunkey dorey. Spacious trains, nicely airc-conditioned, with nice, friendly service. I'd sit back, strech my arms, and relax whilst the train took me to my destination.

Then, today, I sat on my Virgin train from Birmingham to Manchester, wondering why I don't take the car to these places.

In fact today, I endured the journey from Hell.

First off, the train was heaving. Surely they know how many people will be boarding, yet we still have to squeeze in prams, Chelsea pensioners, and people with breathing problems. So many people were standing it was unbelievable, I must have brushed aside 3 grannies to grab a seat (I take no prisoners).

So, with sweaty overweight men breathing down my neck and knocking me in the face with their bags, I sat patiently waiting for the ordeal to end.

An air-conditioning system that barely made a murmur, children literally having screaming compeititons, babies wailing as if the World was about to end, teenagers kicking my seat, mobile phones with bloomin' crappy chart ring tones blaring away, old biddies arguing with folk and claiming there seats had been reserved (wrong carriage!!!)...

Golly, I had to use all my four year of online poker experience to maintain my discipline and compusure. Otherwise, a Ned Flanders explosion would have been inevitable.

Anyhow, I'm here now, and, thankfully, have just walked into a nice fresh spacious casino. The vodafone is coughing and spluttering, but we have a connection at least.

Beggars can't be choosers.

Hmm, shall I take the car or the train next time? Tough decision, I think I'll fly.

Serves him right for taking one of Wooly Jumper's Plastic Trains.

Ladies & Gents, I must tell you that Dewi won his seat for the Cardiff Classic last night on Blue Square, & played incredibly well so to do, the last three players were World-Class. I believe he's the first Welsh person ever to win a satellite.

A loud silence indicates that England have been beaten in the World Cup, after 3 of England's finest footballers were unable to convert penalties.

For now, basically, its 6 plyers per table, a sort of shootout, the winners all go through to the Final, & the runners up all get free entry into tomorrows "Plate" Competition. The winner of each table gets £2,000 Guaranteed, & all the players on that table get a piece of his earnings if that player goes on to win the Main Comp.

Actually, that makes no sense at all.

I just saw a R, RR & RRR, on theor bcks, 2 plyers all-in, it was AA v AK, but K man survived.

It really is extrordinary how willing some players are to move all-in early doors with AK. Online is's obligitary, apparently, but surely not live?

Gary Holden busted OUT in a 3 way jobbie on Table 1.

Gary held  Ad Kd, Matey Boy 1 had  Ac Ts, & Matey Boy 2 (seat 3 on that table) had  8s 8h

The flop of  Aspades 4d 8d was ample for AK & 888 man to get all-in. Hard to see what AT man was doing, though.

To be fair, AK man had the flush draw too, but AK claims another victim. I think on that flop, I may have been tempted to push with the suited big-slick, but 888 man bet first, & Gary called.  Many of us would call in that spot, in this format.

After spotting Burnley John on the rail, I sarcastically asked him, "Are you in Pool 2, or just taking things easy," merely assuming that he was playing later. To my suprise, the answer was actually the latter. He is indeed up to 8k already.

Kevin O'Leary told me he'd dyed his hair blonde "as all the top players & Icon's seem to be doing it". Ahem.

Luke Smith & Matt Tyler, as expected, have had a set to.

Luke in the Blinds had  Ts 3h, & Matt on the Button had, well, we don't know, but he bet out on  flop of  Qd 5d 3c, & Luke quickly called.

The turn card was a horror for Matt, the  3d

From then on, Matt kept betting, Luke kept calling, & check-raised on the end, which Matt called before mucking in disgust. I do believe Matt had a big hand, & Luke's speculative flop call with bottom pair paid off handsomely on the turn.

Lord Wernick & Ariston are sat side by side, Ariston has position, which he is currently attempting to exploit with itty bitty Raises, which Micky is generally calling. One of them is being set up, methinks.

Flop = 3s 6h Tc after some preflop action.

Richard Sudworth is facing an all-in from G Ringe. He opts for the fold. Ringe pocket jacks, Sudworth claims to have released A-K.

Fatmarra, who is also on this table, is setting the early pace with cigarrette breaks as he usually does. In fact, I'm not even sure he's had 1. Quite remarkable. Watch this space for future ciggy updates.

He did confess however that he rather greedily, perhaps, trapchecked the flop. Could have been worse though, he manage to avoid losing his entire stack.

Bit of a mixture actually. Roast Pork with cheese on top (what - in Lancashire?), Barbecued Pork bits, fishcakes, baby bangers wrapped in bacon (delicious), spring rolls, cheese & biscuits, & salady stuff.

Just reverting to the real world for a moment, there are Police helicopters overhead & riot police, armed to the eyeballs in armoured vans charging around Bolton right now, all rushing hither & thither, there's a near-riot.

Apparently, post Football, it's all gone off in town.

Drink, football, a hot day, pea-brained hooligans gathered together, & another England World Cup penalty defeat are not a good mix. Bring back National Service I say, or shoot the lot of them.

He flopped a nut flush with Ad 2d on a 7s Kd 3d flop, and then a pair with the 2c turn, but a blank hit the river and Andrew Massey's Ks Jc stood up.

Flushy knew his opponent had top pair, but was sure he'd let it go as Flushy had been intentionally trying to create a tight image throughout.

All tables are now on a break.

Luke Smith's table is down to 2 - Luke has 29.700, & Matey Boy therefore has, obviously, 6,300.

Just 2 players left on Steve Read's table.

4th placer, Rod Macdonnell, raised 1.2k with a 4k stack, Kevin Moore reraised all-in for 10k, takes an age to call.

A-Q held up.

Richard Murnaghan then took 3rd when Steve raised his big blind from the button with K-3 suited. Murnaghan smooth called, as did his other opponent. Steve won on a 7-6-3-3-2 board, after moving in on the flop and being called by Murnaghan's A-7.

Before I anwser Tighty's "format" question, I must tell you this story.

Ariston & Lord Wernick are at it hammer & tongs (verbal-wise) after a huge Pot that has severely weakened Ariston.

I never saw how it played out, but THIS was the board, & all the chips were in the middle when I arrived.....

Ariston's hand was  Kh 9d, & Micky's was  Ac Kd. (Ignore the suits, I have guessed them & I don't think they were relevant).

Ariston was steaming big time, suggesting that Micky played it badly, & Micky was, well, lets just say "defending himself vigorously".

But if you look at the hands, & the flop, it pretty much was bound to end in tears. Thems the breaks in poker, & I'm buggered if I know which of them got the luckiest. But I know that each of them are having just a tinsy winsy struggle to see the others point of view. All good stuff, proper poker, poker at it's best. Those 52 cards have so many ways of laughing at us.

I guess that one of the reasons that I'll never be much good at this game is that hands like that, whatever end I'm on, never bother me, they just make me smile. It's poker!

I just spoke to the very nice CardRoom Manager, & he told me that the 14 players who return omorrow will play the rest of the comp out as a "normal comp"......! (So they will begin as 2 tables of 7, & end up as a 9 or 10 man Final Table).

Which has, I confess, taken me aback a little.

tikay,how did dave smith get on?hes been playing quite a few of these bigger comps.

How the heck can it be right that you play day 1 shorthanded and then go to a full table format when the field thins out?

Presumably the players that reach day 2 have done so by being the best players shorthanded...why then remove that advantage?

I think the attraction of what is clearly an innovative comp is somewhat lessened.

Sai Lee has just won table 4, beating Mike 'Micky147' Herron heads up.

Micky was short-stacked right from the off, and almost pulled off a great recovery, but eventually fell foul to Lee.

The 16 players who return tomorrow will play on 3 randomly drawn tables - two with 5 and one with 6. It will take the format of a normal tournament, so when the first player is eliminated they will balance the tables if neccessary to make it three fives. When we get down to 12 players a table will be broken and there will be two tables of 6. Thereafter the tables will continue to be balanced until we get down to seven players left, whereupon all players will play on one table until the bubble boy is eliminated and then the final proper will commence..."

I gather Bolton Town Centre has been pretty much closed down all evening due to the football riots, but parts of it have been re-opened in the last hour.

I'm told that it's a regular occurrence in Bolton whenever United have a game. (For the Southerners who missed geography at school, Bolton is, pretty much, a suberb of Manchester).

There is a wall that runs between the cardroom and the cash desk at Walsall (The one that the blonde updaters usually sit next to)  If you stand there, everyone who busts out of the comp will rush over to you to tell you their bad beat story. The locals call it  'The Wailing Wall'

I believe Richard Sudworth has just won his table, taking out Paul 'Fatmarra' Moss and Claire Smith, 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Versus Moss, Sudworth flopped a set, and found a buyer in Moss. Moss then made a flush on the turn and managed to get his opponent to call his all-in. The river paired the board giving Sudworth a full house and Moss a painful exit.

Sudworth then made short work of shortstack Smith to win the table.

Fatmarra wasn't best pleased.

Paul is currently emerged in a heads up battle with Andreas Olympios, although he seems to be in full laid back 'catalogue' mode in this snap.

what news from the Mickey ,Ariston and Burnley battle

Burnley John is OUT, no big dramas, he's just out.

They are 3 handed now, Matey Boy & Ariston, both about level on maybe 7k, & Lord Wernick slowly grinding them both down with around, I suppose, 16k.

The real value here is to stand by the table with Paul Parker & Ali Mallu.

Paul is in full flow, Ali is playing "blind", & the only other surviving player is struggling to comprehend what's going off between those two.

And Paul King wins his table.

A-5 v A-9

A-5 makes 2 pair.

This is one of the two remaining Pool Two tables.

The fellow on the left is David Chavda, who I believe I went to school with. Small world, huh?

Not much of a decision for Lord Wernick, who quickly called with  Qs Qh.

Hands were shook warmly, but Micky must have been odds-on from the start of the table, he's a seriously astute pokerist, far better than he's generally perceived as.

But fair play to Ariston, he showed great patience & backbone, but the skills of Micky were just too much for him in the end, combined with, maybe, just not quite having the rub of the green.

Lawrence Gosney is OUT.

Jason 'Tractor' Oliver is still going strong on the same table.

On a 4 spade board, Micky bet out on the end, Rutter called, Micky turned over 2nd pair, no spade, "good call, no spade" he says. Matey Boy turned over top pair, no spade!

John Hewston is heads up with R Romonelo.

The latter holds a slight chip lead, but it's pretty even.

"It wasn't me guv!" says Ali Mallu as the post-mallued Table 5 surround him.

He looks so innocent, doesn't he? Who would have thought he was one of the most dangerous players on the circuit?

Micky filled up on the end with a boat, but he seemed to sense that Neil had rivered his fluh & made a big overbet on the end, which Neil readily called. Around 30k-6k in Micky's favour now.

The longer you play against Micky, the more he wears you down. Remarkable.

Just as William Hill made a wonderfully inspired signing with Thewy, Blue Square got it spot on with Micky.

Ok let me explain why I think he played it badly. limped all round preflop (I was button). Flop checked to me of K45 so I bet 1100 to find out where I am as I suspect Mickey maybe slow playing a big hand and I want to find out cheap, he considers the reraise and decides not to and just calls- I am now finished with the hand and not another penny is going into the pot...until- Turn off suit 9 and Mickey moves in for over 10k (current pot around 3k)- I instacall and ask if he has a set or AK. He shows AK and rivers the ace. Mickey thinks I got lucky on the turn and thought he may get me to call on the turn with KQ, KJ etc but I had found out what I needed to know on the flop with the probe bet. The only way I call the turn is if I have him beat so he was betting to lose. We shook hands and no problems after and it was a pleasure playing on a great table with some great poker being played, it was also good to play with 2 of Europes top 3 ranked players from last year. I managed 8 mistake free hours and feel very drained but also very confident  for my world series quest. Good luck to Mickey and I hope he wins it- after having him allin on the turn twice once as an 82/18 favourite and once as a 94/6 favourite I think the luck may be with him for this event. In his own words I beat the **** out of him tonight but it wasn't meant to be- this game can be so great one minute and an absolute bstrd the next. Also many thanks to bluesquare for a great structure that allowed us to play.

And after a marathon slog, John Hewston has eventually won his table.

The end came in bizarre fashion. With a mere 2,400 in the Pot, John set his oppo all-in on the end, & the guy said openly "I have the T flush", before openly speculating upon what John might have. He eventually deduces that despite John's massive overbet, John can ONLY have a flush. "So how big is your flush?" he muses......

After a huge dwell, he calls, & John slaps the table & whoops, turning over the nut flush.

A Jack on the turn produced a few beads of sweat on Pete's palms, but the 7 river confimed victory.

Annan had doubled up more than once and brought the chip levels to almost even, so a saver was done with Annan taking £500.
