Afternoon all from a heavy & sultry afternoon in the jewel of the North West, Bolton.

Just give me 5 minutes to set everything up, & I'll be ready.

The Boy Sloppy had a long day, followed by some cards back at our hotel, followed by several hours of blonde duties, so he's having a little lie-in, &  will be here in an hour or two.

Today 14 runners return, we will be able to follow things much better than yesterday, as we have been promised seat allocations & names for all 14 players.

The players will all start with 36,000 chips, & Blinds 100-200. And no, that's NOT a typo - 36,000 chips each, & blinds ONE HUNDERED, TWO HUNDRED!

Play will finish around Tusday......

Lets have a little comp - what time, at those levels, will we lose our first player? Assume we start at 3.45pm.

There is a short delay to the scheduled start time as one of yesterday's tables has yet to finish! They are heads up, so it wont take long.

4th hand of the day? Don't be daft. Flushy & Ariston are both already out.

OK, Seat Allocations next.

Sai Lee is OUT after running A-J into Soxy's Aces.

Ace on flop, Sai moves all-in, quickly called by Soxy (oddly enough)

The first exit has HAPPENED! 16.01, I made it.

Sai Lee is OUT in extraordinary circumstances. (Bear in mind the struycture & clock, look at this for an "internet" play).

Sai Lee makes a small pre-flop R with Aspades Jh

Chris Sokrati smooth calls with  Ahrt Ac.......

The flop came....

 Ad 7s 4d

Now, & this is breathtaking...Sai Lee moves All-In......!

Not a difficult call for Chris "Soxy" Sokrate.......

Ummm

I feel surprisingly ok. Jen's head is probably still on her neck, it was at kind of a funny angle for a while, but at some point during the night she managed to move herself from the sofa to her bed, which is good, right? I wore 4 inch heels and didn't break either ankle. I'm very proud. Did Rhowena say bad things? Don't believe anything she says...

The cardroom is a cracker too, on the lines of Blackpool, in a sort of sunken pit, with a viewing rail all the way round. As good as it gets. About 10 or 12 tables in there, though, as in just about every UK Casino, there is no room to move, everyone is shoehorned in. Space in Casinos is worth a lot of money, so it's understandable, but a shame, nevertheless.

Chubby Nowab tell me that on the Motorway drive down from Nelson, somewhere near Bury, (or Berry as he pronounced it), there was an awesome storm, with hailstones as big as tennis balls, the traffic came to a standstill, but it all cleared in 20 minutes & the sun came out!

Never happens in Derbyshire.

Read moves all-in, Mateyboy folds.

"I'm not going to show but I had a massive hand," claims Read.

Paul King limps with T-2.

Flop = T-2-6

Edwards bets, King raises, Mickey calls, Edward calls.

Blank on turn.

Edwards bets 8k, Mickey flatcalls, and King folds putting on of them on trips.

Last card = T, and Edwards takes the pot with 6-2 as Mickey missed his nut flush draw.

Micky did 18,000 chips in this coup, chasing his draw, which is pretty unlike Micky, so I asked him aboot it.

He agreed that it was odd one, but "the problem was, the way the betting went, I had the odds to call every street, so I had no choice". There you have it, from the man himself.

Jonathan Raab tells me that the "Final Table" wil be 7 handed, with the Prize Money going down to 6......

So, when "bubble time" arrives - 7 players left, 4 on one table, 3 on the other, it would be too unfair for the guys on the 3 man table.

There you have it, once again, from the horses mouth.

Luke bets 1.5k

Emberson calls

Both check 3s river.

Luke Smith wins with Js 7s

About 10 or 12 tables in there, though, as in just about every UK Casino, there is no room to move, everyone is shoehorned in. Space in Casinos is worth a lot of money, so it's understandable, but a shame, nevertheless.
i dont know what u think tk but it was  a horrible place to be i dont mean casino looking new and posh but everything else was shiat  people had no money place s run terribly  even cash games  take a pick  best 1 was £20  hold them roulette tables 50p and £25 max manager was arogant sad and more to say but never mind never again

so you're not a fan then?

Jonathan Raab tells me that the "Final Table" wil be 7 handed, with the Prize Money going down to 6......

So, when "bubble time" arrives - 7 players left, 4 on one table, 3 on the other, it would be too unfair for the guys on the 3 man table.

There you have it, once again, from the horses mouth.

Good afternoon chaps, I do enjoy these updates.

How do they work the bubble at WSOP short-handed events ?

For those of you who follow the EPT threads, you may recall that I had a slight Frank Spencer encounter with the Jazuzzi in my Deauville hotel.

Well, the berret was back on this morning as I tired to work the shower in my room.

For some reason, there were to shower heads, on connected to the top of the tap, and another fixed to the wall further up.

I couldn't find a tap or button for the one higher up, so I was forced to use the one lower down. However, for some reason, the shower cord was only inches long and it wouldn't reach past my manhood.

So, in a strange moment that I'm glad wasn't captured on camera, I had to virtually lie down i nthe bath to wash my hair. Very uncomfortable and vastly tricky considering I had to hold the shower head with one hand and scrub with the other.

Not as easy as it looks.

I expect to encounter these problems on foreign shores where our overseas freiends surprise me with their modenr technology, but not here in Bolton.

I'm scared to go to Vegas now.

Why can't bathing be simple. What's wrong with a tin bath and a scrubber??

Blinds are 400-800.

John Hewston is probably the chip leader, he has a big "Marcel Luske" style skyscraper stack.

Ali Mallu & Luke Smith are both playing very aggrressively, & have around 50k each. Ali is seriously busy, he's tough to play, & he's got the number of most of his table. Having said that, there's an accident waiting to happen, as there are 1 or 2 inexperienced guys on his table, & Ali relies on players who know what they are doing, & can pass when need be.

Dinner break will be at 8.15pm.

Ali Mallu has been 100% Mallued and is OUT of the Blue Square Poker 6

Lee Edwards announces an all-in preflop overbet, to which Ali calls instantly.

Edwards = Ahrt Qh

Mallu = Ks Kc

Board = Ad Aspades 3d 3s 7h

Mallu had a face like a smacked bottom and was having a bit of a moan when I departed.

Just joined the biggest pot of the night on the turn.

The board read 7c 6d 4d Kh

John Hewston bet 8k, Luke Smith called.

River = 9c

Luke Smith bet 15k, John Hewston announced all-in, and, after a lengthy dwell, Luke Smith called.

John Hewston showed 8h 9s to win the pot.

Hewston is now the chip leader.

Lee Edwards bets 8k, Mark Emberson reraises all-in, Edwards shows a King and folds.

Title: Re: Live & Interactive Update - Blue Square Poker 6 from Bolton - DAY TWO

Simon Cawley is OUT.

Board = 6d 9h Td 2h 7d

Simon Cawley = Qs Qh

John Hewston = 8c 9s

Brian Medley = Kd 3d

Medley doubles up, Hewston takes a hit, and Cawley is eliminated.

Brian is back in contention after a medley of hands, Cawley's call calls for him crawling back to the rail, and Hewston still doesn't have a problem.

Flop = 8h 5h 2d

King bets 10k.

"Why 10k?"
"Flush draw?"

... asks Hewston to which he receives no response.

Hewston calls.

Turn = Qc

King = Kd Kc

This is the rather charismatic Brian Medley.

Brian is the chip leader, but adopts the same train of thought as Mickey.

"I'm just focusing on reaching the final 6. I'm not going to try and win it here and now. When I reach the last 6, I'll then concentrate of making the last 5, then the last 4, and so on."

Steve Read doubles through one of those 'up the bummy' outdraws.

Brian Medley limped for 2k under the gun, Read raised to 8k with A-K, Brian called.

Medley bet the 3-Q-3 flop, read moved all-in, and Medley called.

Medley showed Q-K, but the Ace that came on the river saw the pot move swiftly in the other direction.

Read survives a hairy moment.

Brian Medley is on a hot streak after receiving the bad beat from Read.

Short stacked, he moves all-in on a flop of 8s Ks 9h, only to find a quick call from Hewston in the blind.

Hewston flips K-9, Medley the bullets (pow pow)

Turn = 6h

8d river drowns 'Texas'

Then, on the very next hand, Medley bets 4k, Hewston (seemingly on tilt), moves all-in in, for quite a chunky reraise too.

Medley calls pretty quickly and shows Kd Qd.

Hewston wasn't necessarily steaming after all as he showed pocket tens.

Board = 8d 2c Qc 3s 4c

How quickly the tide turns.

Hewston is now short-stacked and look as though he'll be taking that 9th spot after a bad run of luck.

the question on my mind was 'would I call Hewstons big reraise with K-Q suited" Tough one, but I think I would have folded. Not sure I fancy putting my comp on the line with what is essentially King high.

Hewston really does have a problem now, he's almost down to the felt.

Hewston raises preflop, Read makes a deep reach, Hewston folds reluctantly showing an Ace. Read reveals pocket tens.

John had just about enough chips to make the fold.

Soxy raises from the button with pocket eights, Mark Emberson moves over the top from the big blind with tens, Chris folds (very reluctantly).

Soxy is now down to just 16k and found it excruciatingly difficult to release the hand with so few chips.

I reckon Foxy would have shoved those chips in quicker than a tikay exit.

And John Hewston becomes our 9th place finisher.

His all-in preflop steal with J-8 ran into the pocket cowboys (yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaa) of Steve Read.

King on the flop, and that's all she wrote.

Matt Tyler, who is still playing the £100 consolation comp, has a mobile phone, a lucky pebble, and a black bag sitting in front of him. Jokingly, I asked which item the bag was meant to hold (secretly knowing that it was his phone... even though it turned out to be his sunglasses). Little did I know, however, he DOES have a bag for his lucky bag, and it's exactly the same as the one for his sunglasses.

Is this a normal thing? Does anyone else have a bag for their lucky charm. Maybe I need to pruchase Charlie one, perhaps that's why she's been so unkind to me recently.

Brian Medley limps on the button.

Mickey Wernick makes it 26 from the small blind.

Paul King folds the big.

Brian flat calls.

Flop = Kh 5h 8c

Both check.

Turn - 9d

Mickey bets 15k, Brian checks.

IMO, as soon as Brian checks the flop, Mickey must know he can take it on the turn, hand or no hand. Brian likes to limp a lot and call raises wit hands like K-Q, J-T, 7-7, etc

If he hits, then Brian tends to move it as he did with the K-Q against Read's A-K earlier on. He doesn't seem to be a trapper.

So, with a check on the flop, Mickey must know, from that flop, that Brian is unlikley to have a pair. The nine of diamonds is unlikely to have made a difference unless Brian has A-9, so a bet seems like the wise option for Mickey.

Personally, I reckon Brian had something like A-6.

Lee Edwards is OUT and becomes the 7th place finisher winning £5,000

Edwards moves his shortstack all-in for 32k.

Steve Read calls from the big blind.

Edwards = Kh Td

Read = 8c 8d

Board = Ad 9c Jh Jc 2c

How about that for a danger turn? Any card over an eight wins it for Edwards, 14 outs overall (I think).

'Eye of the needle' time for Steve....

Ayegun doubles up through chip leader Read.

Read bet 25k from under the gun with 5-5, Ayegun moved all-in (for not too much more) with tens.

Read called, but didn't hit on a 9-K-J-A-5 board.

"Buddy Love takes it down," chirps Ayegun. "Buddy Love never puts his chips in behind."

Well, it's been a long shift for the updaters, but I don't think the players will have any complaints.

With the exception of the dinner break fiasco, this was a pretty well organised event.

It's a shame they didn't quite make the numbers, as this made the whittling down process rather more complicated than it should have been.

However, kudos to Raab for setting up a highly successful event and coming up with something innovative.

The structure cannot be faulted. There was more than enough room to play 'proper poker' and, although it is now 4.30am and I feel as though my head is about to drop off, that is the most important thing.

No crapshoot this weekend.

Stick a fork in me...

I'm done!

snoops snoopy

I think only King and Read had their hearts on the trophy.

Whilst King was short-stacked near the end, Read was determined to play it out properly, making sure he got his hands on the silverware, which, ultimately, he succeeding in doing.

Also as we both agreed, that 4k might not mean too much when you've already bagged 20 big ones, but would he be saying that in several months time?

Well, its all done and dusted now, as they say. I've read through the threads from both days and will now attempt to answer a few of the questions that cropped up.

Why were there two flights?

Well, it was hoped that we would sell out the event (capped at 108 runners - 18 tables of 6 players) and had we done so that would have created problems of space - where to put all 18 tables - and problems of staffing - how to get the 20+ dealers that would be needed to run 18 concurrent tables (they need breaks you know). So, two flights was the answer.  With hindsight, 16 tables could have been run in one sitting, but we were optimistic of filling the event due to the added prize money, slow structure and novelty of a new type of event.

Only 96 runners?

The World Cup, the weather, the WSOP and to some extent the location (many southern players were not keen on travelling that far for the event) all conspired to result in the event running 12 players short of capacity. However, 96 is a more than respectable number for a £1,000 event, especially when you consider that so many recent tournaments have had such poor attendences.

The seven handed situation on the final table?

Two conflicting reports in the thread about how they ran it at the WSOP - the idea of moving a player every half hour doesn't seem like a good option to me. The most fair way is to go seven handed, even if that goes against the stated shorthandedness of the event.

Carry On The Dinner Break?

There were problems due to unforseen staff absences which caused very long delays in service. Obviosuly not an ideal situation and potentially very upsetting for the players, however it became so farcical that they all ended up laughing about it. I do apologise about the situation on behalf of the Grosvenor Bolton. I actually missed the whole debacle as Mike, Simon (my Blue Square colleagues), Rick Dacey and myself had decided to go out for a chinese instead. We played a sit n go all the way through the meal. Rick won, just as the bill was arriving...

Will there be another Poker 6 event?

I would hope so. Most of the feedback I had from players at the event was that they would like to see it return. I will set up a poll on another thread so you can voice your own opinions on this matter and on the event in general.

I have been quite heavily involved with the Poker 6, as many of you know. The main things I wanted to achieve by running this event were:

1. To run a short handed event - You don't get many of them in the UK and certainly not in usually in casinos, for obvious economical reasons - space and staffing.
2. To ensure that the comp could not become a crapshoot - this was achieved by deep stacks, healthy 40-45 minute levels (for a short handed game) and a very gradual blinds structure.
3. To give value back to players - with a guaranteed prize pool of £120,000 and as we fell 12 players short, we actually added a lot more than the advertised £21,000 to the weekend. Not bad for a 96 runner bag of sand event.
4. To be innovate - the starting table saver prize, the consolation 'Grosvenor Plate' event and the shootout/usual mtt combo format fulfilled this.

I feel that my goals have been achieved and hope that overall it has been a success in the eyes of the participants as well.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the event - Blue Square and Grosvenor casinos, the staff at Bolton, with special mention to Ian Bryan  (who did a wonderful job running the event and remained calm and good natured all the way through, despite a few teething difficulties) and everyone who played in the event or pitched up to rail their favourites home. Hope to see you all again soon.

Yes, a big "Thank you" to Mr Rabb - sorry, Raab - for organising everything, & generally looking after blonde. That included a tour of Bolton Town Centre at 5am on Monday.

The Venue had not hosted a major event before, & it showed, but the Cardroom Manager was a great guy, & with a little help, he would have been fine. A shame Grosvenor could not "loan" him someone like Yogi, Dani or Carmel for the weekend, he would have appreciated it, & benefitted.

Well done Grosvenor, & Mr Raab.

Tikay, when will the Poker 425 episode featuring the Poker Six festival air? Please feature my post-exit interview! Everything about the festival was superb (apart from, of course, the restaurant wait). Snoop, are you the guy I asked about the prize structure to? I figured it was you. Hi

well done on you final table appearance

The show will probably be aired this Wednesday at 11pm.

I see no reason why your interview won't be included, they rarely cut one out.

I was the good looking skinny guy walking around with a notepad and camera, generally being a nuisance.

Good luck in Brighton.

Have to agree, this is the best event i have ever played in the UK. Evreyone was really enjoying themselves, and the 2nd chance comp with the starting table saver going on made it bloody brilliant, the 2nd day was more fun than the first!!!

Well done to Blue Square, Grovesnor etc, but especially Jon, this was his idea, he wanted to make this happen so badly and he did. Roll on the next super 6, i for 1 will be playing!!

Also well done to Claire! She was on my table and didnt have many chips when i busted but she went on to yet again out do Luke (it's not that hard!)
