Just down the road from me! It's closer to stoke than brum though.

I guess Uttoxeter race course would be the nearest gambling related landmark...

children, partners, friends - all welcome...the more the merrier...

I've been looking at prices on the internet and can get tickets from LastMinute.Com for £14.75 (adult) and £9.50 (children) up to September 6th. This seems to be the cheapest unless any can find any cheaper.

So, are we looking at mid-week?

Any day of the week up to the 2nd week in Sept is going to be packed with kids! So don't pick mid-week on that count lol.

Here's an idea then - very near to Alton Towers is a place by the name of Rocester, & you ALL know what Rocester is famous for. What a trip THAT would be!

ok I googled!

The first line at the top of the results line said "Did you mean: Rochester", guess it's famous then.

Home of the JCB! wow, not.

Us sensible ones could always plan a trip to Butterley?

Or Crich?

Or the Blue John caves?...really enjoyed that one!

Blue John caves now you're talking.

But on balance, I'm busy that day.

I would rather go to Rochester, now that has some good history behind it and it's in the opposite direction, looks more appealing as I type.

Yes, Robert gets the Prize - Rocester, home of the JCB empire. How cool would it be to take a Tour of the JCB Factory? And their World Parts Centre, nearby. In front of their manufacturuing faclity, they have a beautiful lake, with some handsome & quite rare Black Swans. And another thing - the JCB company have purchased, over the years, as many "JCB xxx" car numberplates as they can lay hands on, hundreds of them so far as I know. And it used to be the case (perhaps not these days) that all Company Cars owned by JCB had to be white, no exceptions.

Salivating yet?

JCB is truly one of the World's greatest companies, & I exaggarate not. Sadly, old Joe died a few years back, but the Company remains in family hands. Joe fell out with his brother just after the War, & they went their separate ways, Joe becoming a billionaire, & his brother, well, lets just say he did not fare quite so well.

Thanks Tighty, I never knew that. I must say, the lansdcaping, & the lake, are truly beautiful.

I've never seen a non white JCB car TK.

I thought they were all the same car as well - everyone i saw used to be a vectra.

The other day though I saw a White Mercedes with JCB plates so maybe that has changed (or i was just mistaken in the first place)?

They have a Sculpture made from JCBs along the road too (it's on the way to Alton Towers...)

I've been on open days to JCB and i confirm it is fascinating. They have the display team which is both impressive and very funny at the same time.

I would recommend it to anyone.

Yes, it always was "one car fits all", White was mandatory, as was the JCB XXX Numberplate. Shanks & McEwan also had a "white cars only" Policy. Aldi (the Discount Supermarket chain) were also "white only", though always the same make & model, but they relented eventually & now they use Blue Audis.

The JCB organisation is a world-leader in many ways. "JCB" has become the generic term for backhoe hydraulic Excavators, and as pieces of machinery, they really are the Rolls-Royce of Excavators. They always used to boast that worldwide spares availability was never less than 99% "on the shelf".  Awesome people, awesome machines. Properly maintained, these machines will last for ever.

I'm delighted I'm not alone in my admiration & fascination with all things JCB. Don't want folks thinking I'm some kind of geek, or anorak, now do we?

They've also just designed their own diesel engine (a first for them) and are going to have a crack at the diesel land speed record:

Alton Towers - does this involve going outside ? I don't think I could handle that tbh.

What does JCB stand for ?

Surely - Joseph Cyril Bamford

Unless you're claiming that J stands for J and C stands for C?   :D

No, but it's on that Tick List. Unticked.

I have. Working the back actor is really difficult for a while, then suddenly it becomes intuitive,
after that it's just like an extension of your own arm.

What a fantastic design!
