Tell me, how do you get this "inside news" from Walsall?..... Hope you keeping OK fella, see you soon I hope, & thanks for all the help the other week. How many can Walsall seat?? i think its 160 thats why a sell out means no added value i like the idea of smaller buy in freezeouts over 2 days for hobby players this gives a bit of extra value for money even if it does mean that it attracts better players witch makes less value in the game itself Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: ifm on March 27, 2005, 11:57:32 PM it seats 144 officially but as tikay will attest they have shoe horned (and i mean FORCED in) a few more.
it was in a flyer to members and yes, it is probably already full. ian Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: JasonO on March 28, 2005, 01:45:21 PM How do you pre-register for this?
Do you have to go down there or can it be phone? Thanks Jason Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 28, 2005, 05:18:08 PM You cannot do it by 'phone Jason. You need to visit the Casino in person, though for the bigger Grosvenor events, you can usually register at any Grosvenor Casino in advance. Look in our Cardroom Directory for the location & telephone numbers of your nearest Grosvenor. Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: JasonO on March 28, 2005, 06:10:03 PM Looks like a trip to Walsall this week then.....
Cheers Tk Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Junior Senior on March 28, 2005, 06:23:56 PM They should have made it a re-buy!! - it will only make 16000. In addition for non-locals it means a one hour plus drive to bust out early with no re-buy option is no-one's idea of fun!
with re-buys, it would make 35,000!! - now that sounds better doesn't it! Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 28, 2005, 06:27:43 PM Fair comment Greg, but many players cannot afford to play in a 100 rebuy, whereas they CAN manage a 100 Freezeout. I think Walsall are trying to get the balance right here, & I applaud them for it. I am still curious, though, as to how Dani Verace, who began this thread, seems to knows so much about what's happening at Walsall. Cough cough. PS - Keep them coming Danny, that's what the Forum is for! Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Newportlad on March 28, 2005, 06:50:40 PM Is this going to be a weekly event?
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: JasonO on March 28, 2005, 07:03:39 PM Well I for one would jump at a freezout like this but definatly would not play in it if it was a rebuy...
I think the average player would jump at the chance to play in this.. Jason Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 28, 2005, 07:30:46 PM Well that's exactly my point Jason. Some guys need to know their maximum liability, & if they know it's 100, they can manage it, but the possibility of 2 or 3 rebuys prices them out. I am all for a mixtue of rebuys & freezeouts. I don't like 100 rebuys personally, but that don't make them a bad idea.
We must always remember that we all have different financial situations, & everbody needs to be catered for. Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Ironside on March 28, 2005, 08:08:57 PM They should have made it a re-buy!! - it will only make 16000. In addition for non-locals it means a one hour plus drive to bust out early with no re-buy option is no-one's idea of fun! with re-buys, it would make 35,000!! - now that sounds better doesn't it! there is plenty of options for rebuy event all accross the country from 5 to 500 there is very few freezeouts alot of us newbies have been introduced to poker thru freezeouts and dont get a chance to play them unless we have a huge bankroll more smaller buy in freezeouts in local areas means people will have a choice Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: the rock on March 29, 2005, 01:46:14 AM I mentioned this comp during last nights dublin report and it may well not sell out as it is in response to a rival casino. They too are running a100 freeze out comp on the same day to mark their opening in the centre of Birmingham. They however are limited to 90 runners and there is no guarantee.how i like this inter casino rivalry.
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: ifm on March 29, 2005, 10:38:50 AM I like freezeouts more for a the reasons previously stated also beecause:-
during the 100 rebuy at a recent festival a certain sponsored player was gambling during the rebuy period, calling everything, raising everything trying to get lucky. This resulted in this player having several rebuys but made it VERY difficult for everyone else at the table, even though it didn't work for him it COULD have and that puts you out of pots you might wanna see the flop in. He even raised the last hand of the rebuys in order to allow him to buyin and top up to the max (1000+2000+2000) which meant he had more chips than many at the table!!!! I know it's common and within the rules but i believe it to be slighty unfair to others on a limited budget. BTW there is a 50 freezeout at Walsall tonight. Ian Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Dani Versace on March 29, 2005, 02:45:13 PM I spoke to the management at walsall last night and they informed me that the competition is not not full up yet, they also stated that the ante structure will be an hour clock all the way though.
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 29, 2005, 03:01:23 PM You spoke to the MANAGEMENT? Wow. Are they nice people Dani?
Well, whoever Management are, fair play to them. A 1 hour clock Freezeout has to be a good thing, many folks who cannot afford a 100 rebuy will love this, & I am sure it will fill. Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Junior Senior on March 29, 2005, 03:12:55 PM OK, fair points! - i take back the 'it should be a re-buy' comment from earlier. I will not be in attendance as I have some golf commitments that weekend but I am sending Mr Hill 'Senior' in my place to try and keep the family coffers growing. - should be a good event and a one hour clock is perfect!
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 29, 2005, 03:14:16 PM Your Grandad is playing? Wow. Look out boys, he's old, but he's good. Mansfield Town supporter, though. Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: redsimon on March 29, 2005, 03:19:30 PM Mansfield Town supporter, though. We all have our crosses to bear mate! Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: JasonO on March 29, 2005, 07:52:14 PM Anyone know starting chips?
I pressume 5000? Cheers Jason Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on March 29, 2005, 07:58:16 PM Hi Jason.
It's 3,500 starting chips - that's plenty, it's 70 x BB. Oh, AND a free buffet before the comp. I think this will prove tremendously popular, & fair play to the Walsall Management for showing this initiative. I have noticed lately that the various Casinos are really making an effort to improve the selection of tourneys, and to respond to customer feedback. Long may it last! Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Rupert on March 29, 2005, 08:15:57 PM 15000 grand? So 15000000 :o :o :o for a 100 buyin! I'll be there!
/pendantic Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: Dani Versace on April 10, 2005, 12:47:02 AM just come from walsall, a massive turn out for this event, blowing the rivel broadway apart on their opening night with a massive 189 runners, plus a reseave list of nearly 30 players, i think its worth a trip if they do another?
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: ifm on April 10, 2005, 02:31:43 AM Yeah, 187 shoe horned in(actually wasn't that bad). an hour clock reduced to 45mins otherwise there'd be 100 coming back in the morning!!
The rival casino actually filled up so dunno if they were blown apart? (with plenty of walsall regulars too). They anounced they are doing a 100 freezeout every Sunday from now on and a 300 freezeout once a month, personally i think this will reduce the amount of folks during the week but we'll see. BTW all reports on the broadway were exceptionally good though apparently the dress code is very strict! (plenty turned away on the door). So maybe some decent competition for the excellent walsall. I'll see if i can confirm their tourny schedule and post it but i think it's 3 per week with no rake and no sessions on cash games for the foreseeable!! ian Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: tikay on April 10, 2005, 04:29:48 AM Walsall 100 Freezeout, 189 runners & 30 reserves? Wow, way to go, Walsall! Nice one Dani, well done. We'd appreciate it if you let us know the result. Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: I KNOW IT on April 11, 2005, 06:47:25 AM Peter "THE BANDIT " Evans won the 100 freeze out. This guy is on fire at the moment and a great bloke too. Any sponsors reading should look no further for their next recruit. Peter is a true class act on and off the table
Title: Re: 15000 grand up for grabs at walsall Post by: The Cube on April 11, 2005, 12:21:34 PM Congratulations to Peter Evans! The management are certain that this kind of small freeze out will be a regular event. Great structure and well run. At one stage we had two finals in play and another tournament about to start. Great atmosphere in the Cardroom! The final table played for over 5 hours with the blinds nicely capped at 6k-12k. This is more play than I have had in tourneys 10 times the price! Well done keep it up Grosvenor. Looking forward to Luton.
