The book itsnt a all out book teaching about poker but with simple tips from the txt have took my game forward no end. Any body have any other gd poker books to tell about ?? Depends what sort of games you are playing. There's a good earlier thread here. http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=538.0 I'd back up redsimons recommendation on that thread of Pot-Limit and No-Limit Poker if you are looking for a CASH game book. Most people recommend the two Harrington books for TOURNAMENT Hold Em. The Ray Zee book is excellent for split pot games. SPAM Alert: I'm an Amazon affiliiate so if you are getting them on Amazon, I'd be eternally grateful if you got them here: http://tinyurl.com/6n3j2 Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: NoflopsHomer on September 04, 2005, 10:49:33 PM Gotta go with the Harrington books as well, well thought out and covers most situations. I think a third volume is coming out soon.

Great heads up battle. If there's one thing on Ladbrokes that you can always get, it's the freedom to play poker heads up. Unfortunately this guy wasn't an all-in nutter and gave me a run 4 my money. Got lucky tho - reraised his preflop raise with A7. Outdrew his JJ with a str8 on river. But I guess u need to get lucky at some point during the comp. Just glad my 2 outdraws came in the final 5. Ty poker fairies. Suppose I could make it 10 bags Robert :D Respect the Brief, he's a true ambassador to Blonde. Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: Robert HM on September 05, 2005, 02:15:27 AM Pleasure, you played well, good to watch

Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: TightEnd on September 05, 2005, 11:01:50 AM Snoopy's victory was hidden away!
well done Now then, what's your favourite poker book where you learnt the secrets of your success? Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: Karabiner on September 05, 2005, 11:14:24 AM Nice job Snoopy.
Well done. Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: snoopy1239 on September 05, 2005, 11:32:16 AM Snoopy's victory was hidden away! well done Now then, what's your favourite poker book where you learnt the secrets of your success? Well. Cloutier's was the first I read. Nothing too advanced, but great for beginners. Super System is a must. Killer Poker is worth a read if you're struggling with discipline. Recently, Harrington's 2 volumes have been a real eye-opener. Uses specific examples siting a range of different scenarios. Excellent read. Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: snoopy1239 on October 12, 2005, 10:52:53 PM Just started reading Barry Greenstein's 'Ace on the River'.
Although it starts out with a lot of page fillers, things do start to pick up and Barry makes some interesting points. I like the fact that the book looks a bit different. Big, clear, and colourful, although some of the lovely pictures could do with a caption or two. Has any1 else read this? I'm approaching the strategy sections. Couldn't believe their was a chapter on the ins and out of the brain. Bizarre. ??? Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: Sheriff Fatman on October 13, 2005, 12:34:39 AM I've read Greenstein's book and I'm still not sure what I think of it! Its highly rated by the top pros but seems to get much criticism from the 'general' poker population.
The key thing is to understand that its not a 'how to' book in the typical sense. I think the majority of those left disappointed by it would not have realised this prior to purchasing it. Also, Barry has long stated that he aimed the book at the mid/high professional player looking to make the 'next step'. Consequently, there's potentially little of relevance in there to a low stakes online player starting out. Mason Malmuth managed to trigger a lot of debate by awarding it 10 out of 10 (which he does VERY rarely in his reviews). I certainly wouldn't class it in such a lofty category (but perhaps this means I'm not good enough to fully appreciate it!) but it was an interesting read and is probably something which I'll re-read at some stage and re-evaluate. Sheriff Title: Re: POKER BOOKS Post by: AndrewT on October 13, 2005, 11:28:30 AM I like Barry's book - it's different from the 'what to do on the button when there's a bet and a raise in front of you' type of books on the market. That's not to say it's necessarily better, but it gives a different viewpoint on the game by having a 'bigger picture' perspective.
It also has much higher production values than other poker books - full colour thoughout - which is really cool. |
