Title: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Teacake on November 20, 2006, 07:35:11 PM Huge match this one, Celtic really need a result as our away record in the Champions League is appalling & we'd struggle in our last game in Copenhagen. Man Utd will want this section sewn up before playing Benfica at OT to avoid the risk of elimanation 2 years on the bounce to them.
Celtics home record in the Champions League reads P 11, W 8, D2, L1. Man Utd have won only 1 of their last 10 away in the Champions League! GAME ON! Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Scottish Dave on November 20, 2006, 07:45:34 PM Really really tough game this, the nerves have started already with me!
I massive lift is needed from the team, we must be firing on all cylinders tomorrow. Either way, we are in the situation, and others aint, im going to enjoy the moment no matter what. I expect a great game there, then I'm on the beer until the big one.

Trouble expected, there are around 300 Man U casuals in Glasgow. Celtic have a big mob out as well. Central Station was closed at one point the day while the cops rounded up the Man U casuals and tried to usher them out the station. Celtic and manure have always got on well in friendlies but I think its been widely recognised that if there was a competitive match it would KO. I'm hopeful of a Hoops win. Big Mick for first goal and 2 - 1 the hoops 100/1 :-) AAAAaaayyyyyyyyyAaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! We can't get caught for 2nd place no matter what happens in the last game. We went back to our regula boozerr, normally full of reasonable huns its decent for us for after the game like because its close to home and easy access from CP but they closed the doors and locked up fecking spoil sports!! Few of us back in my gaff now with a carry out do i phone work the now and tell them I won't be in?? :D Fucking delighted, old dear was paying my trip to Copenhagen for Christmas but the work declined my holidays but now we're throught I can save the cash for February. TBH I thought WGS screwed up in the first half, I could see the game plan but we where really poor first half. We had no width, no penetration. I thought whien Maloney came on and got at Neville, he was a wreck, personally I thought we should have started with mcGeady and got at Neville first half. But what a strike. I had my cash on Big Mick but I also had a £5 on Naka at 8/1 so not all bad there. I'm just so chuffed, hopefully now although I had doubt the night the wee man has proved that he is a decent manager and once and for all the St Martin The Deserter apologists will leave the wee man alone to get on with his job. Man Utd have won only 1 of their last 11 away in the Champions League! GAME OVER! Yet another fantastic European night at CP, the last 10 mins was absolute bedlam! TBF Man Utd over ran us in midfield in the 1st half although they created virtually nothing. Strachan got his selection & formation horribly wrong but at least he rectified this at half time & the 2nd half performance was much better. Prawn sandwich anyone ;D Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Div on November 22, 2006, 10:09:45 PM Much as Celtic were dire in the first half, someone pointed out today that Inveness Caley had more shots on target in the first 45 last Saturday than Man Utd managed last night.

So, saying Utd 'owned' us is pushing it a bit. Anyway, as the saying goes, he who laughs last.... ;D Maybe Boruc didn't wash before the game or something because they never went near him until after they were behind. Even Fergie said they had hardly any shots at goal. I was shocked by the stats which said they had as many as 11 (if i recall correctly) 3/4 of them were in the last 9 mins after we scored. I hate diving full stop, so maybe harsh to single him out- but that was a god damn awful dive I support Ipswich so no bias towards either team Hardly a dive mate, contact was limited but player came through the back and the intent was there. Moreover celtic where denied a stone wall penalty when Heinze elbowed Jarosik in the face when he was going for a header in the box, given at this was deliberate he should also have been sent off. The ref tried to even things up by giving Manure a dodgy penalty but Saha bottled it. Bandits right about the Heinze elbow, penalty & straight red :redcard: Also Scholes dives for the free kick that results in the harsh penalty decision, Giggs takes a shocker of a dive at OT in the first game as well for Utds 2nd goal, you could go on all night arguing the toss, fact is Celtic won 1-0 despite playing garbage in the 1st half Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Teacake on November 23, 2006, 05:15:49 PM I dont think either Celtic or Man Utd(if they actually qualify) will get through the next round but you never know I suppose. Bandits right about the Heinze elbow, penalty & straight red :redcard: Also Scholes dives for the free kick that results in the harsh penalty decision, Giggs takes a shocker of a dive at OT in the first game as well for Utds 2nd goal, you could go on all night arguing the toss, fact is Celtic won 1-0 despite playing garbage in the 1st half Teacake, your always going to get guys like Smithy, trying to bring you down after one of the best results in recent years, thats just they're mentality mate, they are born with it. bottom line we played bad 1st half, and good 2nd = in the end up we were the better team, ie we came out 1-0 winners and are TOP OF THE GROUP!!! People just cant handle it. I do however think we have a much better chance of going through to the last 8 than ...... say ...... Ipswich. Rooooooon Ye xx Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Scottish Dave on November 24, 2006, 04:20:15 PM Anyone else think Giggs ran out of steam and should have been subbed before the hour mark? thats what i would have gave the cheating Bas***d! Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: BigTomatoes on November 24, 2006, 05:11:47 PM it is very likely that all British teams will qualify from both competitions this season which would be quite incredible.
well done to the teams in the Uefa cup ( Newcastle , Spurs , Rangers , the others ) and also to the teams already through from the CL , Chelsea , Liverpool , Celtic good luck to the 2 ' wee ' teams - Man Utd and Arsenal , im sure they could scrape through as well. It would be a great achievment and a stat to be proud of if every team went through particulalry for Celtic and Rangers ( first time both in Europe after Christmas for 35 years. Incredible ) Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Rooky9 on November 24, 2006, 06:01:44 PM it is very likely that all British teams will qualify from both competitions this season which would be quite incredible. well done to the teams in the Uefa cup ( Newcastle , Spurs , Rangers , the others ) and also to the teams already through from the CL , Chelsea , Liverpool , Celtic good luck to the 2 ' wee ' teams - Man Utd and Arsenal , im sure they could scrape through as well. It would be good for a British teams to go one step better than we did in the CL and Uefa last season. It is overdue! Don't Liverppol count? Sh1T... I did completely forget about that. I had had a few by the time they actually won it but it is no excuse! I sincerly apologise and have given myself a good talking to! I think I have started to block out any success other clubs get, its a side effect from NUFC! Well lets hope it happens again this year! (I'd settle for a Newcastle UEFa win and any British team winning the CL, Arsenal are my 1st choice team in the CL though!) All british teams who made the league stages qualifying is clearly what he meant. No need to get like that! Of course they count as teams, it is only when you try to insert 'football' before 'team' that anyone would take issue! All the irish and welsh teams went out before the UEFA cup first round, ie qualifying rounds - not sure about Gretna and Hearts, I presume the first round was their downfall. Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: BigTomatoes on November 24, 2006, 07:38:01 PM that is what i meant , the teams who got past qualifiers.
my cousin actually plays for Gretna , and im sitting in Airdrie Utd's stadium as i type this post ( ive worked here for 8 years since i was 14 ) from pie stall and programmes to groundsman work , security and maintenance , so of course the ' wee ' teams count to me and i look out for them as much as i look out for Celtic Title: Re: Celtic v Man Utd Post by: Tinsel Town on November 25, 2006, 04:59:11 PM The final word??
