Still, at least if he fails the celts can blame it on age. I realise that the EPL is of a very high standard but it is not as good as the Spanish League, trophies won in Europe speak for themselves, the UEFA coefficient (which is highly biased towards the big 5) also speaks for itself. If you want to look at the real facts and figures please go to http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/ This gives you all the info you need! Yawn, Larsson has scored goals in World Cups, European Championships, Champions League, Uefa Cup, La Liga I'm sure the over rated over hyped Sky league will not have him quaking in his boots. If you knew anything about Larsson you would know that his game is not all about scoring either he is a great team player who puts a shift in every time he takes the field. Thierry Henry after Champions League Final "People always talk about Ronaldinho and magic and that, but I didn't see him today -- I saw Henrik Larsson. That's where the magic was," Henry said. "Two times he came at us with those little short runs. When he started buzzing around the box he changed the game, that is what killed us. Sometimes you talk about Ronaldinho and Eto'o and people like that, you need to talk about the proper footballer who made the difference and that was Henrik Larsson tonight," he said. Ronaldinho - "With Henrik leaving us at the end of the season this club is losing a great scorer, no question. But I am also losing a great friend. Henrik was my idol and now that I am playing next to him it is fantastic." To be fair Henry & Ronaldinho hadn't been on the Stella all night ;) Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: LeKnave on December 04, 2006, 06:11:47 AM Never thought id say this, but well played Fergie wasnt it well played when he won the treble in 99? Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: ChipRich on December 04, 2006, 06:16:50 AM id probably say well played for the double, the Treble was just lucky dave!
il say well played Fergie again if u manage to knock Chelski and Mr Mourinho off the top. Come on Chelski! ;slavedriver; Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: Horneris on December 04, 2006, 03:35:28 PM Hes a good signing, but Man Utd will fade, Chelsea will rise, and after all Man Utd still have all the hard fixtures to go.
I hate them both, but Man u more, so COME ON CHELSKI ;slavedriver; ;iagree; Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: SupaMonkey on December 06, 2006, 02:01:06 PM I really don't believe man u will win the league but it is hard to be sure. You need to get some more midfielders otherwise you will be knackered by the end of the season.
Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: AdamM on December 07, 2006, 06:50:14 PM Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher, O'Shea, Park, Richardson, Smith. I think we'll muddle through in midfield. Someone like Larrson is perfect for us. an experienced super sub for when ;shitfanhit; . looking forward to him in a Utd shirt.
after the 1st goal went in on Wednesday I thought we looked very much like contenders for Europre this year and very much a serious threat for the Premiership. Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: Rod Paradise on December 07, 2006, 10:59:35 PM Adam, you overestimate your squad, if not your team. Look at your subs at Celtic Park, Celtic bought on subs who could change things, Man U brought on Evera (sp?) and O'Shea. Larsson was and probably still is a better player than any striker you've got, it just depends on him getting to play enough for you to realise what we, Barca, and everyone else are missing.

Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: Div on December 08, 2006, 12:06:37 AM Rooney has yet to prove he is a truly world class player, though there is no doubting the potential.
Larsson has scored in three world cup finals - including going as far as the semi-finals - has won the Champions League, played in the UEFA Cup Final - scoring two goals - and won the Golden Boot. His goal scoring ratio for Sweden over 90+ games is better than Rooney's for England. Bear in mind that while Rooney plays as a '2nd striker', Larsson played many games for Sweden as a winger. Rooney so far is more famous for getting sent off, or getting off with grannies, than he is for actually scoring goals on the truly big stages. Two players at opposing ends of their careers. One who HAS done it all. One who has the capability to do it all. Fortunately Larsson is a bit more mobile. Mind you, Puskás is in the right age range for Rooney. Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: AdamM on March 11, 2007, 06:53:32 PM and I'm Man Utd and I've said, I admire and respect Larsson. I was sure he'd do a good job for us and he did. I didn't expect him to rip up trees and again, I don't think he did. We've been stronger with him and we could certainly do with him staying but you have to respect his decision.
in the link you put up, this hack is comparing two 21 year olds who are widely expected to make a huge impact on world football to a well respected older player who's certainly made a good account of himself. We'll see how many medals Rooney and Ronaldo have on their mantle pieces at the end of their careers. not only is he comparing players at opposite ends of their careers, he's not even comparing like for like position wise. Ronaldos goal tally is impressive for a wide midfielder and Rooneys job isn't to score 20+ goals a season. it's to score 10 - 15 and to make another 10 - 15 for a out and out striker. Premiership WAS worthy of Larrson and he could have had a great career in the premiership if he'd chosen to. Not many managers would turn him away Im sure. A young Larsson-esque player is definitely what we're looking for. Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: boldie on March 11, 2007, 09:31:29 PM Adam, I think you completely missed the point about what that reporter was trying to say. Lampard complaining about 100k a week? younger strikers only interested in the most money and girls? that's not what a true top class professional is about. Larrson got paid, did his job and that's it. He was completely proffesional in everything he did. you never saw him in the papers for anything negative. And he didn't just do it for the money.
that's what separates him from most of todays footballplayers (with the possible exception Of Steven Gerrard and the Neville (God help me) brothers). Title: Re: Larrson signs for man utd Post by: The Baron on March 11, 2007, 11:31:47 PM It would be wrong to say I've been won over by Larsson as I've always rated him, but he has shown beyond a doubt that he could have done a job in the Premiership at a top club.
Does anyone know what Larsson's goals/games ratios were like outside of Scotland please? Thanks. If he was writing an article about profesionalism and not being in the papers for negative stuff there's plenty of Utd players that fit the bill. pretty sure I got the point. |
