Title: Should I pass? Post by: TightEnd on December 06, 2006, 04:50:09 PM Its the first level of a reasonably sized live freezeout
I limp for 50 in MP with Qc Jd button limps, both blinds complete and check we all have 5000 starting chips, 30 minute clock flop 3c Jh Qs small blind bets out 200, pot sized bet I raise to 800 small blind instantaneously pushes the full stack in I know the player, he talks extremely loose but plays tighter. I don't think he pushes with Q3 or J3 as he knows I'm solid/tight and am not steal raising, I can't put him on QQ or JJ just completing in SB I put him on a set of threes and pass Its a tight pass, as he could have KQ, Q10 or a draw (doubtful but maybe), but is very early in the comp and I don't have to make this guess at this stage of the comp He showed me one card when I passed. A three. Your comments please Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Royal Flush on December 06, 2006, 04:52:17 PM I call :D
Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: TightEnd on December 06, 2006, 04:54:55 PM I call :D surprise surprise! I am genuinely concerned that I am way too weak tight in these, against a background of the rest of the field gambling like its a roulette wheel! hence my post here. Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: doubleup on December 06, 2006, 05:00:27 PM No I pass. I might be ahead some of the time, but if I am it's to a draw which is going to hit a third of the time.
I think he has 33 a lot of the time here and is pushing to end the hand because he doesn't want to take the risk of a str8 landing on the turn. It's a bit of a setback, but you have plenty of chips and plenty of time to get them back. Title: Re: Should I pass? Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Dewi_cool on December 06, 2006, 08:32:37 PM he has AQ call

2 pair would probably bet out at that flop. Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: boldie on December 06, 2006, 08:36:02 PM Good pass. 2 pair would probably bet out at that flop. he did...that's why I wouldn't take him for pocket threes. Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: TightEnd on December 06, 2006, 08:37:15 PM sometimes you have to lay down possible winning hands though?
his range here is tight, 33 or two pair. Should I take this gamble so early? (just thinking out loud) Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Dewi_cool on December 06, 2006, 08:39:34 PM he obviously knows you, change required?

Should I take this gamble so early? (just thinking out loud) you probably did the right thing to be honest..Staying in the tourney is the most important thing....I still would have called though but would have kicked myself for doing so if he turned over pocket three's Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: TightEnd on December 06, 2006, 08:40:50 PM he obviously knows you, change required? yes one of the reasons why I post/ask/ponder/cogitate and gaze at navel Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: SuffolkPunch on December 06, 2006, 09:34:53 PM I'm with you Tighty and have put him on set of threes. It was far too early in the comp to risk finding out.
Remember he was facing a bet and your raise before pushing so had to be uber confident (or stupid!) Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: doubleup on December 06, 2006, 10:54:41 PM He showed me one card when I passed. A three. If you can remember, did he look at both his cards and show a 3 or did just pick up one of the cards and show it? If the latter it was prob 333. If he looked at his cards, and had 2 pr he would be more likely to show the higher card. Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: totalise on December 06, 2006, 11:01:16 PM turbo call
Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: TightEnd on December 07, 2006, 01:10:35 AM lol
i'll try and remember next time to see if he has to check both cards before he shows one as an indicator of set or two pair! Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on December 07, 2006, 01:15:38 AM Call
Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: bobby1 on December 07, 2006, 02:29:22 AM pass
Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Royal Flush on December 07, 2006, 02:40:47 AM What do you all do if he ships it in then shows the 3 while you are thinking?
Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on December 07, 2006, 02:49:26 AM ask for a ruling, lol
then call! Title: Re: Should I pass? Post by: Highstack on December 07, 2006, 12:02:01 PM Tough pass, but I think it is probably right to. With your raise, you asked him a strong question and he answered you.
My guess is that it is probably 50/50 on whether you are ahead. This means that 50% of the time you are playing 10k and still have a full field to negotiate, only you know how much that will improve your chances of cashing/winning, but my guess is probably no more than 20%. The other 50% (unless you get lucky and hit one of your 4 outs) then you are eliminated and chances of success are 0%. Good solid pass imo (although I am a donk who would probably not have believed him and soon been sat on the rail - I never believe anyone!) |
