Back to Robert Binedlli. He's wearing a sort of oatmeal or off-white woolen suit, like the sort of thing that the Blue-Rinsers buy in Marks & Sparks. It's absolutely horrendous, the tat-man would refuse it, but he actually looks super-duper cool in it.

I chatted at length with Gus in Monte Carlo, & completely changed my opinion of his game. It's purely mathematical with him, he is NOT as daft as his game suggests, he knows exactly what odds he is getting, & what his hand is worth. It's an awesome skill-set.

Gus Hansen is originally from Denmark but now officialy lives in Monte Carlo but like most of these players he spens all his life living out of a suitcase. Can't recall who says he was a lucky player but please keep thinking players like Gus are just lucky. I dont think I have met a more mathmatical player and he is probably one of the most intelligent people you could ever talk to about poker. If Gus and Daniel N are just lucky how come they win year after year in the biggest tournaments? Must just be the luckiest guys on the planet I suppose. Next time you watch him on TV as he bobs his head- he is working out every possible variable on the hand, not just nodding for effect. If you are going to make a move on a Gus type player you better make sure you have enough chips to seriously hurt him as he wont mind gambling with you if the odds are correct (allin for aything less than 10% of his stack and hes calling you I promise with any 2).
Oh and finally - TIKAY GET SOME BLOODY WORK DONE LAZY ARSE  ;)

EV doesnt really count in tourneys IMO hotdog- cash games yes but tourneys come down to battling stack sizes. If Gus is huge chip leader this could be a massacre, then again he could still finish 8th. The difference between players like gus, atit, thewy, camel and co is that they are trying to win the tournament from the start, they are Gambling with your chips anyway if they have a huge stack- how do you think they get 700k in tourneys? They haven't had aces 73 times I can guarantee it.

You keep getting involved in big pots with someone all in and another with a massive stack  with 9-3 o/s and all your odds wont save you in the long run.

And for a winning player, that is money invested in poker and money returned, well Gus may tell you different.

Maybe Gus knew the pot was going to be checked down, I dont think there  was any real action between the deepstacks if I read it right. About him being a winning player- didn't realise you knew gus but there are not many players who have won as much in tournament poker over the last 3 years- if he could just avoid the big cash game at bellagio he would be ok  ;) He doesn't really care about the money when he's in tournaments which gives him a huge edge over players looking at the telephone numbers on the prizefunds nowadays.

If he feels he's priced in he's in, and he trusts his read! also he has to think he can outplay alot of people which gives him an incentive to enter pots! how many 9-3's do u here about that he did'nt show to get those chips!

You have hit the nail on the head with your last comment, about the money. That is a massive edge  which to his credit he takes great advantage of, where the average joe only gets to play a few major events each year. I know a lot of world class pro's , some share your thoughts  , some mine. Lets review this in a couple of years ;)

The players are being introduced to the waiting crowd now. I can't hear the anouncements, & I can't see the table from here. Gonna be a NIGHTMARE, this.

Ian I have played the same way for years and I know your natural game too, great to convert people like womble round to our way of thinking  ;) I changed wombles game with one 10 minute exercise one drunken afternoon- I will share it with you next time we meet

I can comment on the Gus thing, if you dont take chances to get the chips, and you dont gamble w/ the chips once you get them you cant win. I laugh at players in Atlantic City this week when I had 18,000 in chips and I played my 4/7 twice to CALL allins for 2,200 once and 2,700 another time. I want to takeout as many players as possible. If Gus knocks out the 1st 2 players it will be done.

I also take on the same players over and over, I have doubled up guys 3 or 4 times in 1 event only to take the 4 or 5th crack at them to knock them out. They are usually so tight their stack always goes down to a "shorter" stack that I can bully and gamble with.

So thats why he is calling raises with KT!!!

About Gus, two things.

1. He knows everyone knows he plays all kinds of cards, therefore he's far more likely to get his big hands paid off than Johnny ABC.

2. There are rumours that Gus ran into a bad run of luck/got found out* in big cash games in Vegas and went broke. There are tales of Doyle Brunson lending him 4 million dollars, or something. Someone obviously has faith in his skills.

He's certainly a very divisive player - personally I like him.

If you worry about the money at all you are dead, thats why I dont make deals and I dont look at the payouts, it does not matter, i play the people at the table and the cards that are dealt. Thats why the guy folded QQ against my 22 four handed at the final table at the WSOP this year, the worst lay down I have ever been a part of.

Didnt get unlucky or found out his game just doesnt suit a cash game- especially one where players regularly lose a million in a night. He is IMO one of the best NL tournament players in the world. In cash he is allegedly a bit of a fish.

there is a stars database and if you look on laddies they have their own

I was about 10 when I got her, I loved her, I used to ride her for miles without bridle or saddle and if I got off to walk she would follow me like a puppy, she used to roll over so that I could scrach her belly

One year she developed strangles, these are large abcesses that develop on a horse's neck and under the jaw, they are quite easy to treat, you wait until they are 'ripe' and lance them, they heal really quickly

Lou Lou developed an abcess inside her windpipe, a rare complication known to the old horse men as 'bastard strangles' we couldnt lance it and she almost suffocated. then an old horse trader told my dad he could cure her if we would sell her cheap, we had no choice, she was dying so we sold her for a pittance

The old man did cure her though, he shoved a hose down her windpipe and burst the abcess, so it was a happy ending, for her at least

I have had many horses with strangles since, and never had a problem

There you go, a Red-Dog classic. The book - in fact there are TWO books - are crammed full of such little diamonds.

Yes, they were not intended to be, they were written as a way of handing down a dying history, but someone saw them and liked them, and he helped to get a few hundred copies into print

And almost instantly they re-started, we lose Patrick Antoinius, who was busted by Jan, who must have over 2 million now.
