Title: Card Protectors Post by: TightEnd on September 22, 2005, 10:56:54 AM what do you use and why do you use that particular one?
I alternate between a Bellagio gaming token, a purple crystal given to me by my daughter and a toy soldier given to me by my son Boring, but true Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Karabiner on September 22, 2005, 11:11:29 AM I currently use a medal that my late father won for playing table tennis.
Previously I have used a rock that I found near Loch Lomond, and a $5 silver token from the Luxor. I did admit to being a superstitious type......... O0 My hair used to be a bit like this in the 70's. Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Heid on September 22, 2005, 11:15:51 AM Well I have a crappy token from Vegas' centennial celebrations - but I did get a very nice one for Mr Heid for his birthday this year from Tiffany. Its a solid silver Heads and Tails coin, nice and big, and looks very understated.
I am probably the only girlfriend who has brought something for their man from Tiffany first - it was a hint that obs went wrong (I'd settle for the card protector rather than a ring to be honest) Heid xx Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Rod Paradise on September 22, 2005, 11:21:48 AM (http://www.piczs.com/is.php?i=13117&img=Chev.JPG)
I got the above off of e-bay. It's the same size as a poker chip & has a bit of weight about it. When I saw it I liked the Glasgow connection & the year's a good one ;) Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Colchester Kev on September 22, 2005, 11:23:00 AM Ok other than what YOU use for a card protector ... what woild you suggest OTHER players use :) :)
I will start with a couple ..... Ian "Vidal" "At-It" "I drive a hairdressers car" Bradley .. Miniature (dolls house) toilet roll .. for the s**t cards he plays. Tikay .... Mini magnifying glass :) :) Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: yt on September 22, 2005, 12:38:38 PM Two Dung beetles in resin.

It's been kinda lucky for me so far. Prior to that I used an old Philipino 1 Peso coin, big and unusual Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: matt674 on September 22, 2005, 01:01:48 PM i use a Swarovski silver crystal figurine of a monkey - its actually in the picture i have on my profile but the pic is so small you cant make him out sitting in front of my chips.
his name is mystic monkey and he sends me telepathic messages of other peoples cards whilst sitting on mine...... ;) Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Sheriff Fatman on September 22, 2005, 01:03:24 PM As Tight End will testify, I'd be lost without my trusty Sheriff's star!
The first one was a £2 effort from a joke shop. After I lost that I found a genuine retired Kansas City badge on eBay which has the words 'Sheriff's Posse' on it. It always attracts a comment or two at the tables so its a good ice-breaker! Photo of badge (including ugly bugger with silly pose in background) available here! Its his thing! I just use a cip from my stack... i have no need for lucky charms! I have a few good ones from competitions i've played/won/finaled but never really used them. I'm normally allin before i can get my card protector down! Vidal Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Dirk Diggler on September 22, 2005, 05:17:43 PM I use a small glass 'ace of hearts' card ah - measures about 3cm x 4cm. It is clear glass and has the 'A' and the heart symbol etched out and is painted red - it really looks the biznizz and always gets people's attention when sitting on my chips or cards.
I carry it everywhere with me in fact so it does have a small chip and a few battle scars on it but i think that just adds to it's charm. I have had it for about 2 years, ever since my fiancee found it in a shop somewhere and gave it to me as a present - I think she originally meant it as a token of her love for me >:? but i think she is now quite chuffed that i have become so attached to it and at least get good use out of it rather than it just gathering dust in a drawer somewhere. When we went to Vegas last year I couldn't find it when we got there and thought I had lost it - it really annoyed me and I was concious all week that I didn't have it and knew that there was no replacement for it. At the end of the week (I actually made just a few bucks playing poker but donated like a mug to the table games :-[ ) when we went to re-pack the suitcase it fell out!! ;D stupid really how I can get so attached to it and it means so much but there you go!! (I know, bring on all the 'you soppy old sod' replies....... :-*) Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Heid on September 22, 2005, 08:06:26 PM The Indian shop at the very end of Fremont Street (next to the Harley Davidson Shop) has insects and stuff in resin - I have a scorpion in resin from there :)

Anyway, I try to remind myself to slow down, you know that story :)up Doesnt always work so good for me, oh well ;D Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: Div on October 15, 2005, 07:57:25 PM I got this cast of my baby girl's hand made. She packs a pretty mean punch for a 3-month old.

I used to use a crystal mrs fish gave me .... I forgot it one time and took tourney down so did not ust it again!I do sometimes use one but not v often now I think it takes away slightly from your thinking process about a potential hand, if you are always thinking about putting a protector on your cards before raising you are slightly distracted, small effect but true. Also i think you draw more attention to the strength of your hand when you make a scene of putting the protector on, or at least make more people sit up and take note than normally they would. Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: gouty on February 02, 2012, 04:05:14 PM I just use whatever the smallest value chip is in game. Then when all in just keep a finger on the cards which looks strong anyway.
My buddy had a gift from his Mrs of a little gold wizard with a staff about 3/4 inch high. He played a live local tourney and won it using his wizard as a card protector. Happy days. The next night he entered the laddies 20k and placed the little fella on his laptop. The problem was when he busted out he just shut the lid down and it went straight through the screen. Oops. I never saw him use it again. In Killarney this year I saw a dealer muck a hand in seat 7! Let alone seats 1 or 9/10. We sort of fell out a bit over that, though I think we are cool now. He insists on kissing everyone full on the lips, & it is all wet & sloppy. Truly, I don't like it one little bit, (seriously), & I've come close to losing my temper over it a few times. I saw him a bit back, & avoided eye-contact, I really don't need the aggro. I do mate, it got super high blinds very quickly, I went from chip leader to out in 2 hands but it was great fun playing on that table with the tourney lights on too. Do you know what I remember the most about that tho, you and I, Jan and John McGrane were all on the same table at some stage. About 2 days later I was in the queue in Subway and a guy tapped me on the shoulder and said he had played on that table with us and it was one of the most fun tables he had ever played. He said he was amazed that we were actually trying to knock each other out too. Title: Re: Card Protectors Post by: celtic on February 03, 2012, 03:20:36 PM Lildave has it right.
