No need to worry about presentation now ;) Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 02:49:08 PM Matt,
As usual you are spot on, I'm supposed to be in Aberystwyth tomorrow a 2 hour journey, any snow and i wont be going. Still wish this would work though Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: matt674 on February 07, 2007, 02:51:31 PM Well normally in a situation like this my first question is:
"Is it plugged in?" followed by my second question: "Is it turned on?" If you can answer yes to both questions i then refer you to my native american IT friend fuctifino ;) Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 02:53:39 PM I'm him :dontask:

i always thought i'd be able to tell the difference between a welsh accent and a native american one - obviously not :( ;goodluck; Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Bongo on February 07, 2007, 02:58:25 PM What have you tried?
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 03:05:08 PM Hi Bongo,
Connected my laptop to the proxima, proxima comes on, they do not seem to connect to each other though then I ctrl and PF4 which normally gets me what I want to be, but this time not working. I have also tried switching laptop off and rebooting and vice versa Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: ifm on February 07, 2007, 03:05:37 PM I have a presentation to give tomorrow and brought home a proxima from work, I was planning to use my own laptop but cannot get the projector to work. Someone metioned I need a video card, how do I check If I have one >:? or any other suggestions would be appreciatedĀ ;thankyou; You have a video card don't worry about that. All i can suggest is google the projector model number and see if there is a setup guide on their site. Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: RichEO on February 07, 2007, 03:08:51 PM It's connected by a 15pin monitor cable right? Do you have a monitor to test your laptops output? There may be several inputs to the projector, you might need to select which one with the buttons on the side or a remote. Often they auto detect an input though, which is why I suggest testing your laptops output 1st with another monitor (or high def TV if it has the right connector).
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 03:16:58 PM Cheers Ian, I have had a look andI'm sure I am doing it right
Chip, it is a 15pin cable, however the laptop has worked with a proxima in the past, not this one though! I have to go out for 30 mins (not being funny) Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: booder on February 07, 2007, 03:36:19 PM forget about it...................open a bottle of wine :)up
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Bongo on February 07, 2007, 03:57:30 PM Is the external display enabled on the laptop?
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 04:08:23 PM I have now found a usb connection, my laptop picks up the fact that there is new hardware nad it is ready to use,
External display, please explain Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: WackyDUK on February 07, 2007, 04:16:03 PM I have now found a usb connection, my laptop picks up the fact that there is new hardware nad it is ready to use, External display, please explain CTRL & F4 is probably how you usually select the external display ( proxima ). Do you have the projector turned on first? Some laptops wont pick up a projector etc aprt from when they startup. What is the model number of the proxima ? Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: matt674 on February 07, 2007, 04:17:31 PM Well normally in a situation like this my first question is: "Is it plugged in?" External display, probably when you said CTRL+F4, thats what will switch to external display. It will activate the rear monitor port rather than the laptops LCD. Or rather than using the CRTL+F4 shortcut you could right click on the desktop, click properties, then goto settings. You should be able to set up the 2nd monitor there, depending on your graphics driver, it may be under an advanced setting. If you have another monitor you can plug that in and then we can tell whether you need to mess with the laptop settings or the projector settings... Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 04:29:15 PM yes tried re booting, proxima is ACER PD723P
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: LLevan on February 07, 2007, 05:46:08 PM If you are using a laptop you will need to press a combination of Fn + probably F7........Look at the F keys at the top of the keyboard and look for the one with a picture of an external display and as they say it should be Bob's your uncle.
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 08:54:56 PM Thanks everyone for trying, i'll have to send it back methinks, once again blondites to the rescue
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: matt674 on February 07, 2007, 09:44:12 PM 20th post and i cant believe no-one has offered the most obvious piece of advice!!!!
"If at first you don't succeed, hit it with a hammer!" Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Colchester Kev on February 07, 2007, 09:50:58 PM 20th post and i cant believe no-one has offered the most obvious piece of advice!!!! "If at first you don't succeed, hit it with a hammer!" worked for Peter Sutcliffe. Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 07, 2007, 10:08:50 PM I tried that before the first post ;nemesis;
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: RichEO on February 08, 2007, 06:41:07 AM So was that a no to having another monitor to test it with? Another PC would mean you could test the projector on it too, but easier with another monitor.
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 08, 2007, 07:38:29 AM Rich, I ahd used the laptop with another monitor before and it worked fine, just a faultu proxima I think, thanks for all your help
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: RichEO on February 08, 2007, 08:00:40 AM Yeah, if you had one now, then you could check whether the laptop, its external port, the settings etc, are all in order. Which would narrow it down to the projector and no more messing about with ALT+F4 or the display settings are required. Then you can focus your attention on the settings of the projector.
I looked up the manual but the english one unfortunately is a dead link, if you can speak any of the other languages then you are in luck http://support.acer-euro.com/documents/manuals/monitor/manual_pd723.html Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: Dewi_cool on February 08, 2007, 08:04:10 AM I can speak welsh, ah not in welsh though, just my luck!!
Title: Re: Computer help please Post by: RichEO on February 08, 2007, 08:09:58 AM From reading the German one (looking at the pictures), activate external display on your laptop 1st. Then change the source to input 2, then do a re-scan.
You could also plug it into your TV using s-video or composite to test it. The USB cable and device install that you mentioned will be so you can use the remote as a mouse to change slides etc. Not that much snow here, NE Wales, not enough to stop you getting to your presentation anyway ;whistle; |
