Title: I DON'T CARE!!!!!
Post by: ifm on February 10, 2007, 10:05:09 AM
So it all folds round to me in the SB and i look down and see  Ahrt Aspades, i raise BB moves allin i call, he has  3d 5c.........................

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I am sick of the proliferation (!) of bad beat stories on here.
They come in many guises, dressed up in many ways but ultimately the same s**t, boring, dull, uninteresting, tedious drivel.
The fact is we all get them, we all will get them, we all hate them and the majority of sane people do not want to hear them.
I have seen them as hand analysis "could i (we, you, anyone) get away from this?", as jokes "i think this is funny", as rants "look was this moron called with", as sympathy seeking "THIS IS SICK" and worst of all as "guess what he had".

The 50p fine isn't working, something needs to be done.

On the other hand when you are all in with
 Kh Ks
and called by
 Kc Kd
Flop
 Jd 8d 3s
Turn
 2d
River
 Td
That's what poker is all about.

It's a pain in the arse that people only post bad beats to get an "aww how unlucky" response on the hand history forum.
Poke em in the eye with a needle...failing that..kill 'em.

Oh and before Matt datamines it i have posted a total of 2 bad beats (to my knowledge), one was in a BB thread.
It's ok though i stabbed myself in the eye.

Personally, I don't think they are anything to do with the mods, and shouldn't involve anything like suspensions or indeed most of the options above

I suppose a note from the poster in the title letting people know what is coming might be an aid to people who don't want to read them...

Ahhhhh but you have said many times in the past that you read every post (or a mod does) on the forum, it would only take a sec to add to the title.

Well I think its up to the poster if he or she wishes to do so.

Personally, I don't see the mods getting involved in this at all, even if we try to read every post (getting more difficult obviously due to volume of posts/size of membership of forum).

Before i do what now?  :dontask:

my views on bad beat posts

well maybe its time for a bad beat subforum on here? mods?

i disagree, i think a bad beat subforum would be a bad idea because basically, putting it politely as possible - no one really gives a f***

We all suffer them, its one of the major disadvantages of constantly getting your money in with the best hand. So instead of blaming the site/the rng/the other players/the full moon just dust yourself down and start again.

Yes it sucks but 88% of the time you are sat there with all your opponents chips - this just happens to be one of the twelve times in a hundred that he gets lucky against you. congratulate your opponent, make a record of the move in his notes and look out for him in future games.

I am not bothered by bad beats, I have had them like everyone else, but I have also inflicted them on others as well.  I tend not to read bad beats posted on forums, magazines, etc. They are a fact of playing poker, it is gonna happen and they should just be shrugged off as part and parcel of the game .

FLUSHY AND MFI FOR BAD BEAT MODS

Title: Re: I DON'T CARE!!!!!
Post by: mex on February 10, 2007, 11:42:54 AM
but some genuinly do need discussing, some people post em as a beat then through the anylisis we see they played the hand wrong or why do we think the guy played the hand is it something we did wrong leading up to the hand. I thought this was a poker forum after all.
Funny how the longest threads usually start with welcome to new member, Poledancegrrrl2,(or similar, btw hot girls do not use such names only deluded ones do) followed by 26 pages of hi's and smileys, i see no one rushing to ban these?

Blatent nonbad beats like the AA V 34 preflop for example, don't have a place here, just politley inform them so. As for a bad beat that you think was something you did wrong somewhere and need help then i think post em

blonde is a community, If someone is sitting in their bedroom trying their damndest to win a game of poker, and they get a horrific outdraw/badbeat why shouldnt they put it on the forum ....they cant turn round to someone and say "did you see that, that was sick" so they post it on the forum as a way of letting off steam and getting it out of their system.

If you open a thread and start reading it, only to find its a bad beat ....stop reading if it bothers you.... simple. Alternatively you could always do a "Flushy" and post a sarcastic reply.

This thread should be deleted - what uter drivvel!!!

Seriously, let people post what they want unless it is a personal attack or just out of order.

If you dont want to read someone's post, then dont - simple. What is more annoying than a thread you are not interested in, is when people then waste their time by posting on that thread!

I would say that most people on here do not read half the threads as it doesnt interest them - what interests one person doesnt necessarily interest another person. Does that make that thread warrant deletion? Of course not.

Blonde is a friendly forum (well most of the time) which produces some good debates

I posted a hand on here the other night as it seriously made me laugh - obviously others did not find it funny - and thats fair enough.

Each to their own

I thought this was a poker forum  :dontask:

My point being , when Paul ( for instance ) tells me about whats happened in a game , whether it's a beat beat or not , i have no idea what he's talking about .
He can come on here and get some feedback and most of you know what he's talking about , i hope i explained that how i meant lol.

So i say if somebody wants to post about there game , whatever that entails , let them and if you don't wanna read it or cant be arsed to post a DECENT  responce don't .

The point is Paul that being hoodwinked into reading someone elses tuff luck is annoying.
This is why people react badly to disguised beats, because they ARE disguised.
Just put "BB" or "bad beat" in the title then the folks that aren't interested won't read and consequently won't be sarcastic or abusive.

Title: Re: I DON'T CARE!!!!!

This morning i go into the poker hand ANALYSIS forum to have a look through the threads. Yet i get 3 posts in and they are all bad beats very simple hands where there is almost no strategic interest in the hand. I enjoy reading strategy questions and listening to other peoples view on hands, occasionally adding my own viewpoint.

Surely this is not the point in hand ANALYSIS forum and this is probably one of the reasons why it is often the only forum on here i skip on my visit to the forum as a whole. It really is quite annoying and i feel like i have wasted my time.

My solution is to actively encourage posters if they want to vent to put bad beat in the title, so others don't have to read it.

IFM, you are banding people together here.

Some people are genuinely asking for feedback, some are posting as they find it funny, and some are just letting off steam.

I would suggest that if spending 5-10 seconds of your life reading a thread only to find what you call a "disguised" bad beat story, annoys you sooo much - you really need to get out more.

Interestingly, do you find the "ive won this" and "ive won that" threads annoying???? - just asking

Fair point Longy - trouble is, you can have a situation where you suffered a bad beat, but are genuinely asking if you could of played it differently. Now if you put "bad beat" in the title, most will not read it and hense you will not get any decent feedback

If the poster geniunley needs some help or there is some interesting strategy involved in the hand that is fine. Another point maybe not to post results of the hand straight away so anybody replying will be not biased by the result.

Isn't Blonde about all members no matter what their poker experience and expertise? All the way from the big time, big stakes players right down to the low level duffers such as me.

As these posts tend, but not exclusively, to come from newer players I don't think it's fair to try and exclude them.

If someone wants to post a "bad beat" story be it, for sympathy or for advice then let them! They clearly want to post and probably feel much better for doing so.

Don't think I've ever posted a new thread one myself although I may have been known to subtly give brief details of an exit hand from a tourny every now and again!   ;angel;

Anyway, surely posting a bad beat story should be part of every poker player's learning process!

As Paul, I think, implies in his post is there really any difference between a "bad beat" post and an "I've won this" post?

Are there really that many bad beat posts anyway?   :dontask:

why do people have such a high opinion on the value of their own time? As a group most poker players are lazy slobs, so its not like reading the thread has impeded your life in anyway, yet they all act as though a huge travesty has just occured

you: "I feel like I have wasted my time"
robS: "thats 30 seconds of my life I'll never get back"

Get a grip, read it and respond, or read it and move on. Its not rocket science.

Theres a lot of differing skill sections on this forum, and just because its obvious to world class professionals such as yourself that you should be happy to get it in with AA preflop, its not  so obvious why to newer players, so the "analysis" as you put it comes in different forms. People want to learn, and they wont be able to if there is a qualifying standard required in order to post.

I think the worst bad beat stories are the ones masquerading as something else. I don't get why people post in hand analysis after getting it allin with aces preflop and getting beaten, asking "did I play it right?". Are you cracked? 99.999999% of the time yes. Move along now! There's one of these daily.

If you must post a bad beat, I think a little moniker at the top of the post should elaborate on this. Just please stop the hidden bad beat postings pretending to be something they are not.

Cheers!

Being a relative newcomer I inadvertantly posted one last week ... IMHO you need to allow many Newbies appreciate that BB's happen - it appears that the longer people have played the more they tire from Bad Beat stories. There is a place for them - even the WPT dedicated a two page spread to one (see Oct 2006 issue pages 70-71). It was taken from the final table of the Bay 101 Shooting Star Tournament in San Francisco which was televised

I think you just need to put them in a specific place or insist on BB in the title

Well actually, yes, it is. As many folks don't categorize their Posts as Bad Beat stories, they are not gonna put them in the Bad Beat Section, now are they?

If accidentally reading a Bad Beat tale from time to time is the worst that happens, it's hardly a disaster. That's just my view, of course, the other Mods may have differing views. In thsat resp;ect, no, it's not difficult.

Bad beats are part of poker, some people seem to like to share them (some dont).
Perhaps its good for new players to see them, so they see players dont win every time with Aces,Kings etc.
Surely a Bad Beat child board is the easy solution.

Tikay said "As many folks don't categorize their Posts as Bad Beat stories, they are not gonna put them in the Bad Beat Section, now are they?"

Surely if the board was there they would use it, if it then gets posted in the wrong section a mod can move it.
Other similar forums have the bad beat boards and they seem to get quite alot of traffic.
Either way it doesnt bother me i will read anything.

Too many rules of how to go about posting probably only serves in disuading new members from staying. It promotoes a cliquey atmosphere amongst exisitng users, and makes them appear more and more like computer oddballs.
(That's rich coming from me, an internet wierdo if ever there was one, but there are some amongst us who have not yet completely succumbed to the role of net nerd, and would probably like to look as if they have at least one foot in the real world still.)

So I'm against the idea of having this as a rule.

I find the bad beat posts as annoying as anyone (especially if I'm losing for the day and have seen 20 worse ones before breakfast) so would have no problem if posters wanted to adopt a custom of placing the words B/B in the title of their moan posts. That'd be great....but I wouldn't get in the habit of giving people into trouble for not doing so, just as I wouldn't want to tell someone off for their spelling.

Except M3Boy and Newmanseye (obviously)

I really do think that it's better to have a bad beat child board (i hate that there are so many boards already) than to have long established members having a pop at people for posting bad beats.
Which is more likely to put new members off?
Told to post in BB's or harrassed for posting one to begin with?

The trouble is that some people genuinely want advice on a hand - a bad beat hand.

If you continue to harrass those people, then those people will feel threatened and may not post a hand for fear of being harrassed.

Hell, they may even think Blonde is "elitist" and go somehwere else!

(There is a hand in hand analysis board atm which may be a prime example)

But do you think making such a public display of your annoyance for them is going to help.
As some people have already alluded to in this thread, they will continue to, if not increase the amount of BB posts they show on here now coz they know it winds you and others up. It is not something that the moderators will ever do anything about as (again like some ppl have said) its part and parcel of the game of poker! There are lots of things that annoy me (eg. TK) but you have to tolerate them!
Coz unfortunately they dont go away (eg. TK)

Fair point, but would the problem then not really be solved.

Bad beats would still get posted in HA, and members would still have a pop, this time saying that the thread should be moved.

As you say, too many boards is a bad thing, would the problem not be better addressed by simply encouraging folk not to have a go?

I've had the odd pop myself this week, but it's hard to argue with the "You don't like the thread, stop reading it, don't reply" way of looking at things.

Firstly i don't harrass anybody.
Secondly some people do, and will continue to, your solution of letting it continue doesn't actually do anything does it?

As i havent or wont ever post BB's on here i find it hard to justify them BUT it doesnt bother me when people do. There is no need to harrass anyone if they do just smply click back to the forum and never open it up again.
But to answer your Q just put BB in the title. I'll still read it tho!  ;D

this is a poker forum, right?
bad beats happen in poker, right?

so wtf is the problem!!!!!

if we stop people posting because a few members get irritated by it there would be no f@$#in forum!!!!!

personally i enjoy reading the bb, especially when it turns out they werent really bad beats but piss poor play. however this isnt really the point, read them, dont read them enjoy the or hate them it doesn't matter, just let them be.

there are many threads more irritating, like the ive just won woooohooooo. in each case posters are looking for recognition either sympathy or congrats. at least both are poker related.

what about the ' look whats on channel 5' and threads of that ilk. do they annoy you, do you enjoy them, do you post on them, do you read them get irritated and move on or do you read them get irritated by them then post a thread and a poll trying to ban them????

I DONT CARE!!!!

IMO this is what should happen...

There should be a stickied thread in the Hand Analysis Section titled BAD BEATS. Either all bad beats go in there or some guidelines explaining bad beat posters that they should include bad beat in the title.

What ya funk?

The annoying thing is you only realise you do not want to read a bad beat after you have got to the end!

It isn't like maybe a thread in General with the title "Jade Goody gets stabbed" as most probably you do not want to read that stuff.

But when the title of the thread is "what would you do here" in the hand analysis board, and it has a player raising with AA getting pushed by 35o and losing - makes a big difference

blonde is a community, If someone is sitting in their bedroom trying their damndest to win a game of poker, and they get a horrific outdraw/badbeat why shouldnt they put it on the forum ....they cant turn round to someone and say "did you see that, that was sick" so they post it on the forum as a way of letting off steam and getting it out of their system.

If you open a thread and start reading it, only to find its a bad beat ....stop reading if it bothers you.... simple. Alternatively you could always do a "Flushy" and post a sarcastic reply.

Doesn't answer why 51 is a quarter of 222 though...

You guys have very little to moan about.

After 15 months of live updates I have heard more bad beat stories than you can barely imagine.

However, I never just walk away from them, because that is rude when all they are looking for is a little bit of sympathy from a fellow human being.

Therefore, I just humour them by saying something like "Yep, that sucks" because (1) it doesn't take much effort from me and (2) it makes them feel better.

Would it really hurt if you just saw that it was a bad beat and just posted "Hard luck, not much you can do there".

At least then you can move on to another thread knowing that you did a good deed in the last and made a fellow blondeite feel better about themselves.

Good post snoopy.

But dont be silly, certain people will see it as an oppotunity to "take the piss" when someone is down - just for their own amusement.

(ps good to know it can happen the other way round as well :))

But there is so much more that they can do there, just offering a message of sympathy wont really change anything in the long run.

More often than not when a bad beat is posted on the forum its usually one that has eliminated someone from a tourney or broken someone on a cash game table. Instead of posting the bad beat the person in question should be looking at ways to avoid the situation happening again - trying to ensure that if they suffer a bad beat that they still have sufficient chips to continue to play their a-game be it in a tournament or at the cash game tables.

So instead of people feeling sorry for themselves and looking for sympathy or feeling angry at their opponents for making that awful call against them (which is actually what every poker player wants!) they need to be figuring out a strategy to try and avoid the bad beats breaking them. Its unlikely they will find this on a public forum unless they start posting full tounament or cash game hand histories.

Yes bad beats will continue to happen as whenever you are all in and not holding the absolute nuts with no cards to come, there is a chance you can get beat. Personally i welcome them as the more bad beats i suffer the more i should win in the long run as it means i'm constantly getting my money in with the best hand.

I'll admit that it helps having a good friend who also plays poker as it means we can bounce ideas off each other and although we swore we would never tell each other bad beat stories sometimes the occasional one gets in but we always disguise it under the pretence "ok, so tell me how would you play this....." :D

I understand that some people dont have someone they can talk to and therefore a forum is the only means of communication that they have with other poker players. Unfortunately i feel that more often than not a bad beat section isn't used sparingly by someone who wants opinions on how to play a hand it, instead it ends up full of posts from the same people over and over again who think the whole poker world is against them and that they are being punished by the poker gods for doing something awful in a past life.

Yes all poker players suffer from bad luck from time to time but there comes a point at which people have to ask themselves the question "maybe the losing streaks aren't all down to bad luck" - i know you have snopoy.................

I'm quite lucky when it comes to this whole bad beat story telling thing.

When my GF is at home and I'm playing, all I have to do is step out of the room where I play and have a cig (I can see my screen from the area where I am allowed to smoke) and I can relay it to her. I know she doesn't really care but she understands basic poker stuff and is always willing to just go "ouch that sucks"...or "Well it only happens 1 every 4 times you said so you'd better get back to playing soon".

There is a lot to be said for living with someone who really cares about you and doesn't mind humouring you a few times a day by feigning interest :)
