I thought the idea was to have presenters who understood the game.

These 2 are clueless, judging from the analysis of the last hand.

Cheers I had a pair of 8's and thought a good chance to make some chips, but had to fold after his raise with a queen and king on the board.
Trouble is that Fred is making such weird moves. He has just shipped a load of chips going all in with 3-4. Sod's law i will call him and he will have aces.

What a joke. I make raise with pocket eights and Zulu called (lord knows why) with
 2s  Jh
there is a 2 on the flop and i bet and again he calls, well he has a pair
turn
 Jd
River

Cost me a lot of chips.

Just watched it back on TV and they cut out 11 hands, the bit where I work my way up to the chip lead. Probably had to cut me due to the late start.

They show the 99 losing to K7 of course. 120k pot, if only.

I didn't play, but watched the start of the 'replay'.  Jeez, those presenters were so bad and annoying.

Talk about dumbing-down, this incident really annoyed me:

They were discussing one of Charles Ingram's hands, and happen to laugh at a player on his table called 'amibluffing'.  As they're discussing it, they announce that there's been a bounty.  They finish discussing the hand, then announce that the bounty went to amibluffing.  They then ask the camera, "who do you think has been knocked out?".  They drag the whole scene out, "is it Charles?, Is it his wife? or is it [other bloke]?".

We know whose table amibluffing is on, WE SAW HIM 30 SECONDS AGO YOU IDIOTS!!!!!

Bring back TK!

Still not as bad as the A-T-A-T board, with players holding A5 and A7 and the guy talking about the flush draw coming on the river.

They reviewd one of my hands last night and as I suffered a terrible bed beat - my queens against A 10 the presenter shouted "terrific bad beat" - thanks a lot!

And the 'expert' was a pro, right?

No, wrong actually!

To be fair to Jason, I don't think he's ever claimed to be a Poker Pro. Here's what the Sky Website says about him......

Jason Barrasford

Jason is one of Britain's leading tipsters on horse and dog racing, as well as having a passion for poker. His first job in Television was for Gobarkingmad, some would say appropriately, and has since worked on many shows including Sky Vegas Live, Talk Sport TV and William Hill TV. All shows with a gambling edge and Jason wholeheartedly agrees with the essayist Charles Lamb that ' Man is a gaming animal '. His interest in Poker was realised about 5 years ago and accelerated at an alarming rate. His highlight on the table thus far is bluffing Xuyen ' Bad Girl' (Pot Limit World Champ 2004 ) Pham twice on the bounce with 7 2 and having the temerity to show his cards!

I think it's fair game to "knock" those who appear on TV, it goes with the territory. But if a guy "reads" the odd hand wrong, well, to err is human, & I think most of us have made worse mistakes in our time.

Keep the feedback coming guys, good & bad, it's exactly what is needed.

Title: Re: Sky Poker
Post by: Sheriff Fatman on February 13, 2007, 01:13:32 PM
I'm not trying to knock the guy personally, but I do think it 'dumbs down' the show if at least one of the main presenters isn't a poker player.  Last nights show had 5 people in the studio, the two main guys, Charles and Diana Ingram and a guest pro who barely spoke a word in the time I was watching.

It made a huge difference compared to the one I watched on Friday with Carlo presenting.

I think what we all need to understand is the difficulty the shows producers must have in finding guests for a show which is on every night.

they have absolutely no idea how people will react when the cameras are on them, and im sure for the first few weeks it will be very much a trial and error system while they find a database of who they will and who they wont be inviting back.

Even auditioning people would be no good, as they cant recreate the pressure of being on the spot and instantly being able to talk on something thats just happened live on air.

So i think patience is the key, and with this being a soft launch, they will wait until they are 100% confident in their product before the well oiled and mega funded Sky publicity machine get to work in promoting the show.

Cupcake?

I thought the idea of the TV programme was to get outgoing, gregarious characters who could talk a bit in order to entertain the viewer, not shy, retiring types who go into their shell at every opportunity.

:D  I just hope whatever he chooses to wear tonight doesn't make the cameras go all funny

or my stomach  ;pokergods;

Trust Andrew to have an angle. Yup, John is shy & retiring. When he's asleep.

We spoke today, he's as nervous as a kitten. I told him last week I'd try & be at the studio to look after him, but it was not do-able in the end.

He'll be OK I think.

I am currently preparing the Guest List for March, which I then pass to Sky for their consideration & final selection, so if you think you are up to it, & live reasonably local to London, e-mail me at "Tony.Kendall@bskyb.com".

EDIT - e-Mail addy corrected!

I don't think they'll be able to stretch to the kind of fee you telly superstars demand...

Out in 25th with  Ahrt Qs vs  Jh Jd, cashed on my second attempt. structure seems pretty fast, I think the 6 handed adds alot though.

I never realized i was that good looking. :D

Thanks to all at Sky poker and of course Tony  for a nice evening. Really looked after by all the crew (very impressive and all so professional). Myself and Eric just took the urine out of each other all night, he was even barracking the fabulous presenters off air !!!.

My only criticism was being unable to wear a suitable flowery shirt ( they try-ed to fob me off with some silly excuse about some green backround thing, but i never noticed it !!!!.) Until they get this slight oversight corrected i see no future in this show. ;danafish;

I feel a great pleasure in being one of the first guests so early in this shows lifespan and with Mr Tony Kendall presenting and looking after the necessary bits behind the scenes, I'm sure this show will have a wonderfull future.

John.

You came across well.  A green shirt would have been excellent, all we'd have been able to see is your head!

Just one question though.  What are the similarities between being a cabbie and playing poker...?  :dontask:

I'm not surprised they banned those shirts of yours John, they are truly horrendous.

I thought you did just great son. Smiled a lot, gave the Presenters plenty of bounce, projected your voice, & faled to win the comp. Perfect!

Glad you enjoyed it.
