Title: Sky poker Post by: ericstoner on February 14, 2007, 08:12:18 PM I have just tried to log into the open on Sky tonight,I was asked to provide my drivers liesence no0 or to e=-mail my passport no.
Nobody asked my for this over the last week since I set up my acc. I was therefore unable toplay in the open, is everyone else getting this, and isn't it a bit beyond accepability. What if I had no passport or driving licence, does this mean II couldn't play? Spoke to guy at customers servs. He said it was under Alderney law that this info is required as part of the signing up process.(although he stated that "It hadn't been working recently") I was just wondering if other players had come up against this.It seems strange it only happens to me? As my money is lodged with skybet, I wonder if I have to give the details,if I want a £5 punt on the 3:15 at Market Rasen. I thought the sky suits were reading this, An expaination would be helpful. Was just wondering if you can play via the tv, and at what charge I haven't played it via the Sky Box, but yes, I'd imagine it's charged per minute as a standard phone call (either local or national). Either way, I won't be playing like that - that's what my computer and broadband connection are for. If you've got an LCD telly, link your laptop up to it, and play on your computer but on your telly screen. TV resolution isn't very impressive though. Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: MAF on February 15, 2007, 04:34:19 PM I did register an account via my pc, but last night I tried to see what it was like via my TV & Sky+. After pressing the red button, I got a message saying that if I proceeded any further I'd be charged for using the phone line. I immediately came out of it.
I'm a bit worried about what ercistoner said as I've not actually played any games since signing up. Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Claw75 on February 15, 2007, 08:21:36 PM I might have another bash at the open tonight - anyone else planning on playing?
Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Sky Suit on February 15, 2007, 08:53:33 PM Good evening all.
Thanks again for all your feedback. We've had a big review today and will be making some further changes over the weekend. On the requests for some players to provide passport details etc, I wanted to explain what's happening. We are licenced in Alderney which, believe it or not, is one of the foremost jurisdictions for gaming in the World. They do a lot to ensure consumers are protected, to ensure operators like Sky are socially responsible etc. As part of licensing conditions, we are required to verify customers so that we can be sure that you are who you say you are, and to be sure you are over 18. For most people, we are able to conduct this check from the information you enter upon registration, but for about 20% of the UK public we need further details to check this (because the data our verification software has may not be sufficient in individual cases to verify a customer) - that is what has been happening to a few respondants here. As the UK introduces the Gambling Act later this year, you'll see more of this, I'm afraid (i.e. from a much wider range of companies). However, if you haven't moved address in the last 3 years and you are registered on the electoral role, then your chances of being required to provide details are quite low. It is a good thing, really, that we verify customers. It ensures that we can prevent children playing, and ensures we can also prevent money laundering (which al companies will be required to do from this year). Hope this helps, and sorry for any inconenience caused. Enjoy the tables tonight. Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: boldie on February 15, 2007, 08:56:52 PM Thanks Mr Suit. Could you also clarify what the call charges are?
Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Sky Suit on February 15, 2007, 08:58:26 PM I just noticed the point about phone charges for TV play. All of Sky Bet's services are charged at a local rate on connection via the TV. This has never really been much of an issue before as when you are having a football bet, you're only online for a few minutes. However, we have had quite a bit of feedback from our TV players about the potential charges, and we're looking at alternatives (there is actually a charge to Sky for the incoming connections from TV players at home, but we are thinking about whether we can offset this depending on levels of play)
Thanks again Did any of you see Helen Chamberlain and Norman Pace hosting last night? We thought it was the best evening so far, but would like to hear what you thought. I know there were the competing matters of Valentines Day, the Brits (Live) and Bolton against Arsenal, so you're forgiven if you didn't look in!! Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Sky Suit on February 15, 2007, 09:03:09 PM So we got 276 entries tonight....some marketing started today, and the site is a bit busier, though only with low stakes cash games at present.
Will be interesting to see how 3 hours goes with 276 players......may be a little quicker tonight in terms of blinds towards the end. Bear with us - as the numbers grow, we're gonna have to tweak that, together with entry fees, start times etc etc to suit different needs and tastes Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Eck on February 15, 2007, 09:18:38 PM take it there are "issues" as i can't get onto website.

We thought it was the best evening so far, but would like to hear what you thought. I watched the end of this. I was a bit concerned at first when I saw Norman as I remember watching him a couple of years ago playing poker on TV. He was bloody awful! However, 2 years is a long time in poker, and he's obviously learnt a lot since then. I thought he did a good job and gave some good analysis during the hands. Helen of course was her usual effervesent self. She's a natural at that role.Quote from: Eck getting the cannot find server / page cannot be displayed message. I had a problem last night also. i wonder if you could do me a favour. Last Saturday, i played in the open and managed to win a bounty for knocking "tramp" out. The prize was entry into tomorrows night (sunday) £4000 gtd comp. Like a complete plank i unregistered from the comp by mistake. my sky poker name is dannyb. I cant register again for the comp because when i unregistered it didn't put a credit on my account my name just disappeared from the lobby I have sent an email about this but have had no reply. thanks in advance. Dan Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Eck on February 17, 2007, 01:24:18 PM good call dan.
I also won entry during the trial period, Norman pace was the studio guest (one of the first games of trial i came 3rd) who awarded me entry (Eck) but that account has been closed. New account Eck68 would appreciate it if you could sort it also. Many thanks James Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: dan on February 17, 2007, 02:54:09 PM My name has appeared in the lobby again.

Signed my account up and played a freeroll to see what the gameplay is like. Although it isn't jazzy , I actually really like the simplistic format and it is easy to use. Get a pop up saying my username has not been accepted after about 30 mins of play.(smithy69) Now I am this username on every site I am registered on with no problems upto now, but it has been declined due to its graphic name. Am I being pedantic or is this a touch harsh Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: smithy69 on February 18, 2007, 08:50:19 PM Top marks to sky

Howard from the Halifax Building Society ads next week? Title: Re: Sky poker Post by: Miami Vic on February 22, 2007, 02:04:42 PM It's not really a celebrity poker show - they're guests with a varying degree of experience in playing poker and they are there for players at home to take out and win prizes. That's why we're inviting poker players from around the country in to take part and why we have the likes of athletes, rugby players, etc. It's more about the enthusiasm a wide range of people have for playing the game. We can't get into chasing big name celebs - we're on air 365 days of the year and don't have the budgets of big chat shows. And I hear Howard off the Halifax ads charges big money...

Just flicked over there now to 846, to see them repeating highlights from "The Open" from earlier. Blinds were 10/20, Guy made it 60 on the button with 9h 9s ...and the BB called with Jh 5c The flop came out: Jd 9d 4d ...and the BB checked, and the button moved all-in, idiot play obviously. ...but the BB then called after a slight second to think about it, the presenter then announces he needs a Jack or a 5 to take this pot down. Cringeworthy to say the least. They make the odd mistake but remember the presenters as a rule are people not known for being pro players, they are there to dress things up and make the show entertaining.
If you have sat a table with tikay you will know he regularly makes mistakes when playing the game (miss reads 7 out of every ten hands). Sure hells bells won a huge chunk of change in the poker million but I would imagine 90% of blondites have played 100 times the hands she has. Norm is a very good player but put him in front of a camera and hes a comedian at heart and his brain goes into entertainer mode rather than poker player (strange but when i sit at a poker table i tend to play like a comedian). It's definitely getting better and is easy to watch TV rather than an in-depth poker-analysis show for serious players.
