One piece of advice make sure it's a decent tattooist otherwise it'll cost you alot more to have a coverup done i have seen some absolutely shocking excuses for tattoo's.

I'm not a fan myself, but each to their own.

Unless someone has a swearword on their forehead, or some sort of swastika, then I don't think any less of them for having one. I strive not to make any kind of judgements.

One of my pet hates, can't see the point in them. Knew a girl once that tattooed i love Kevin, she now has a massive celtic cross covering it up.  ::)

Well, it's each to their own really. I'd rather die than have a tattoo, but there are those who don't like trains, so I say live & let live.

One curiosity I do have - not in any at all cheeky or rude - but what exactly is the attraction in having a tattoo? Is it deemed to be coolio?

Personally i have always liked them, mine are all covered most of the time, upper arms and lower legs, as for wether they are fashionable yes and no, but you would have to be very stupid to tattoo yourself for fashion.

i was once dating a girl one day she got a tattoo and something happened to our realtionship i dont know why but we drifted apart i have never dated a woman who had pircings other than her ears

i have nothing against people that have tattoos or piercings but i cant see the enjoyment in either and i think alot of people when they are in there dotage look odd wth tattoos

maybe something happened in my past that is locked away in my memory turned me off them but i just dont get them

Did most of your felloe squaddies have tats?

Title: Re: Help Please

some had tatts but in the army its illegal to get them without permission which was often denied and squaddies just to get them followed by a minor punishment

I've regretted having mine since almost the day I did it.  Didn't think it through enough, went along for appointment not knowing what I even wanted, couldn't find anything I liked in the book so just plumped for one.  bloody stupid.  Gonna get rid as soon as I have some spare dosh.

This site has quite a lot of examples

www.tattoodles.com

Asking why people have tattoos is a bit like asking why people style their hair a certain way, wear certain clothes, wear make up, wear jewellery, wash - don't think it can be much more than a personal choice about the 'you' you want to present to the world - some people like to look like an accountant, some people want to look younger than they are, some people dress to impress, most young fellas punk up their hair in very strange shapes, some people like to say, here are my tattoos, I think they make look me edgy and I might be hard - don't mess with me - an equivalent of the ten hole doc if you will. (s'my motivation anyway :-)

One small advice I'd give if you're certain that you want a tattoo. It is possible that you think you want it for your own amusment and appreciation and get it done in a place where, in the normal course of things, it isn't visible to the outside world.

Suggest you think carefully, human nature (well mine anyway) is that you tend to want people to know you have a tattoo and for them to see it. Especially in America it's surprising how many blokes you see with their T shirt sleeves turned up or rolled up to show their tattoos - turning up a T shirt sleeve I think is very un cool I think :-) Or you see them adopting strange positions so their shirt rides up to reveal the tattoo - lots of stretching and big movements.

Suggest you carefully choose and then make sure it's done where at least some of it can be seen without having to make efforts for people to see it.

Alternatively, get one done in a hidden place, and if you really like it, go straight back for another one in more visible spot.

My arms are sleeved in tattoos.

My only advice is that you get some that are expression of yourself as a person. Your body is a canvas. Tattoos are, and always should be, a reflection of your personality.

If you've really thought through what you want to get done, then you'll never regret it. Even if your opinions change about certain things over the course of your life, they can remind you of who you are/were as a person at a certain point in time.

Well said. Never rush into a design that you will have for the rest of your life, I literally took years (bit OTT I know, but really wanted to be sure) to pick mine and get it redesigned in a way I was happy with.

I loved it, but now want it extended...  ::) I'm now after another one, and have narrowed it down to 2 areas that I want to have it placed, now I just need to fine tune the design - which could take months going by the last attempt lol.

Well put, I've been planning mine for about 2 years now. Getting just about settled on the design, need to get the carcass in a fit state for decoration, then find a tattooist I trust to make my plan come to life.

Exactly the right way to go about it IMO, why rush into something you will have for the rest of your days.

I already have the tattooist, it's just biting the bullet on the design - which I guess in itself means I'm not 100% happy with it yet.

DONT DO IT !!!!

Funniest tat I've seen was on a bloke in my footie team some years ago........it was Popey The Sailor, Popey's head was at the top of this lads stomack, belly button was chaps own & Popeys legs went down the front of his own legs..........the bit in the middle .....well you can guess how it looked, always got a laugh in the shower after the game!
Oh & before you comment....I don't make a habit of looking in that direction!

I'm well into body modification.

Scarification, transdermal implants, that kind of things. Piercing and tattooing has come on leps and bounds over the past ten years or so. The work people are getting done now, especially in places like Miami and California, is out of this world.

I guess you're either the type of person that advocates it, or your not... Like marmite.
