I have no favorites there, and am also very envyous on those left in! lol

But good luck to them all.

PS That VC is a luckbox - how did she call my all in with 99? I mean it was a HUGE proportion of her stack she risked (about 2% from memory! lol)

That Roberto would be my pick. On the table he uses ALOT of speechplay, which could give him a bad image (but I am all for speechplay and he does it very well) Off table though, he is a decent bloke.

Ok can't miss my mucker hopefully in a TV final so Ive booked a flight down from manchester (I have been stuck in Ireland for 2 weeks with no Poker so I need my fix). I land at Cardiff Airport at 8.05- anybody know how far from casino it is? Just jump in a taxi I presume? Help please from any of the welsh contingent.

also from memory at bolton and walsall a 2.30 pm start time today actually means a 3.15/3.30 start time. Play to the final then lots of messing about should mean final doesnt start before 7.30/8 ish anyway. Ive booked and paid for flight now anyway so its too late but I dont want to arrive after they've finished.

I remember Rob when he first started playing £10 and £20 comps in Swansea when his leg was smashed from a bad footy challenge. He's come a long way.

Top geezer. Totally outplays people sometimes and they're left wondering why on earth they called.

Hi chaps and chapettes (are there any lasses watching?), I'm posting, but not at the casino yet - actually, I'm in the hotel room waiting for Jen to get out the shower, but thought I'd make a quick little post before heading on over. As Ariston said, the liklihood is that we don't start till after three as there always seems to be a lot of faffing around, especially with the TV crew bracing themselves for that big final. Once we get going, I'm sure it'll be a blast though, so make it exciting and get those bets on, I think there are some nice little potential earners to back. Incidentally, my shout is for Kayshan Muthy, seems like a truly solid player and a decent bloke off the table to boot.

Whilst I'm waiting for Mrs Merton (gotta be quick though, I sense some towell on body action), here's one of the fan faves now, Mr Simon Zach, who seems very happy with himself after making it through to the Final Day. He's had a great week here at the Grosvenor Cardiff (seems to be winning every game in the ruddy building!) and is doing well at the felt too, let's see if he can go one better than he did at the Broadway several weeks ago.

Oh, and just before we scurry on over, I recall someone requesting a picture of Elliot Bowker (why they weren't asking for Dena, I'll never know), so here he is at the very end of last night's play... tada.

A big high stakes online player from what I've heard, and a very successful one too. Good to see he's not of that arrogant 'look at me, aren't I ace' ilk that we seem to see in these online turned live tourney specialists - makes a refreshing change. He's evidently confident, but not in an annoyingly grotesque way, so let's hope he earns a few spondoolies this week.

Don't forget to stick a bet on Blue Sqare. Just 10 minutes left from what I hear.

The majority vote in mediaroom seems to be for Mr Zach, although Andy's going for Dave Smith "Good value he is" and Nick dino1980' Wright has placed an each way bet on Roberto.

Here's the lesser known but equally cheeky of the Romanello brothers, Anthony. A little quieter than brother Roberto, but still lethal at the table. Could be a dark horse perhaps?...

Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: FINAL DAY - Interactive

I picked Roberto Romanello at the start of play yesterday, and reckon you're also onto a winner with this Eliott guy, plus Simon Zach has been steadily progressing - on the basis of the lack of totally hairy moments faced, I'll go with these three to place.

Another youngster, this time Andrew Feldman. After speaking to him at the end of last night, my take is that he's a pretty decent lad off the table, just doesn't know how to act on it. No malice, just lack of experience on the live scene in terms of holding back the celebrations.

In the very first seconds of play, we lose our first player - Andrew Feldman, who raised preflop with A-J, and found Roberto Romanello moving in over the top.  Correctly surmising that the lairy Welsh player didn't need to have that much, he called, and was up against A-9.  A spiked Nine, however, and Romanello nearly doubles up while making Day Three very short for Andrew, who finishes 12th, winning £2,520.

Vicy Coren is OUT in11th

Vicky raised pre-flop with 6s 5s and Hoss called from late position with Kd 7d.

Flop = 8d 6d 5d

Not a bad flop for Mr Parhazkar - second nut flush with an open ended straight flush if need be.

The chips flew in, as you'd expect, and although Vicky had outs for a full house, they didn't arrive, leaving her to join her friend and fellow Vic fanatic, Neil 'Bad Beat' Channing, on the rail.

For those of you who don't know him, this is Hoss Parhazkar, who I believe won a big event last year at his local Grosvenor in Southampton.

If you read the thread last night, you may recall an interesting situation where Hoss said 'bet' pre-flop before under-raising. The supervisors were called over, and Hoss was made to call, which he was furious about. "It was obvious I wanted to raise," he said to me last night. But, alas, they didn't let him, concluding that 'bet' was an ambiguous term. If it was me, I would have let him raise, even though he's not actually betting (due to the blinds) simply because it's clear to everyone what he's trying to do. However, technically speaking, he doesn't have a leg to stand on because not only did he under-raise, but he also incorrectly announced his action.

Common sense should prevail for me in these situations though.

Ian Nelson triples up - short-stackedly all in, he gets a double call and check-down from Michael Greco and Roberto.
The board:  Jc 7h 7d 4c Qd   and while Greco announces "Pair of Nines," Ian had a Jack and is still in it....

...on the final table...

Anthony Romanello exits in 10th place, winning £4,720

I suppose he was short enough now just to push on the button with Ad 5d, which is what he did, called in the blinds by Hoss Parhizkar with Jc Jh.
The board:  Th 6d 5h Ks Ts - which halved the number of Romanellos in the final.

This really peeves me off. The opening bet is exactly that right= A BET. Therafter any larger bet is termed a raise and any larger bet a re-raise. I once played a comp at the old Luton where i said "bet", stuck in a 3* BB no of chips and ridiculously someone complained and it went as a CALL.

Hoss is a top man, not sure if he has the necessary moves needed to win however.

My moneys on Roberto, everyone thinks he's the bollocks, which means he probably is.

I would have thought it would be a raise because you are raising the blinds. Isn't a bet when the players have an equal investment in the pot?

There is little point in arguing over the technical terms. The intention to raise was clear, this is where common sense comes in and the raise goes. It states at the bottom of all Grovesnor rules that, the rules can be changed for the good of the game.

 This sounds like angle shooting by the other players.

Yes, I agree, but I'd like to say that I don't believe there were any complaints from the players. From what I understand, it was the dealer who queried it. Would need to confirm that before officially pointing the finger though.

Yes, I feel that with the exception of Patrick Martensson, people are far too shy to make up ridiculous hobbies on their Bio sheets.

Simon Zach, apparently, is into rock climbing...

Other chatting with the restless finalists reveals that Michael Greco is delighted to have made the final, "It's been a long time coming - I've dedicated everything to poker..."

Plus the second televised Dusk Til Dawn player, Simon, is confident even with a middling sort of stack.  Apparently he's been avoiding Ariston's calls, but not because he doesn't appreciate the support (he does) but he's scared of being bokked...

Plus Elliott Bowker is desplaying an uncanny calm reminiscent of his online Scandie brethren.  "I'm going to nick the blinds with 7d 4c," he said - hopefully thus getting that one  on TV and endearing himself to blonde in perpetuity.  That clinches it, these two are my picks.

Righteo, the players are seated and successfully greeted, but that's just for the cameras - so my guess is that in about 5 minutes they're all going to sling their collective hooks, the crowd are going to be reeled in and Dougie (The TV guy) is going to introduce the players - at which point I'll be nipping down to soak in the atmosphere.

How exciting!  ;sark;

It's that special time - the players are seated, but they're about to get back up again and walk on one at a time, so that the viewers at home will be able to get a good look at them, and a brief synopsis.  It's easy to forget that just because we see the same people in different combinations all round the country, people watching it on TV probably have no idea who any of them are.  Apart from Michael Greco.  Which will make it easier to tell apart the two DTD finalists...

They're braced!  ;sexybanana;

I don't know if the camera feed to the media room picked up on this, but Roberto Romanello got one hell of a roard from the Welsh and slightly biased crowd.

Meanwhile, Mr Greco, who was introduced as "a familiar face", tripped up on his way in and proabably was pretty close to falling flat on his face and rolling in towards the table.

Well, it was more his friends pissing around.

Apparently, although this has now been falsified, Martensson was a monopoly champion who sold second cars for his dad at the weekend whilst also possessing Sweden's largest stamp collection.

PokerStars were easily duped that day.  :D

And on the very first hand, Ian Nelson doubles up.

Finding Ac Kh, Ian Nelson moved all-in in pre-flop for 89k, only to find a caller in big blind Kayshan Muthy and his paltry 7s 2c, clearly thinking he had 2 live cards, which he did, and fancying a shot of removing Nelson and moving up the ladder.

But it didn't happen, and with a 9h Ahrt 8s 9c 9s board, the Liverpudlian doubles through.

Not a fascinating hand obviously, but it is the third all-in in the first three hands.

Greco moves in after Hoss Parhizkar bet on a Tc Qc 2h flop - he follows the 61k bet with a call for the rest (not too much) after a small think during which Michael responds to questioning, "I have a massive hand."  Clearly unconvinced, Hoss calls.

Michael Ahrt Ac
Hoss Ks Td

"Come on baby, don't suck out on me," requests Michael, eliciting a smirk from Snoopy in the press room -

Turn:  Aspades
River:  9s

And a double through for DTD's Beppe, who when told he's first to act said, "I never acted in real life..." the audience are in the palm of his hand.

With Simon donning the black and white gear, Dusk Till Dawn have two representatives in today's final.

It's a shame Carlo Citrone couldn't have made it, because the DTD TV time would have gone through the roof with all that dwelling.  ;carlocitrone;

Kayshan has been nicking the odd blind, meanwhile it's all "X passes, Y passes."

Ian Nelson raises to 44k in the most recent one, getting it through, then it's Dave all-in once more preflop for 128k exactly.  Kayshan calls, and fast, even with everyone else left to ask behind him.  Simon Zach really gives it a think before passing, though, and it gets through the others -

Dave shows: A K off
Kayshan shows: A K off

Flop:  5c Ah Kd
Turn: Js
River:  2s

Roberto Romanello raises on the button, gets a bit back from small blind Dave and big blind Kayshan.  He gets the first spontaneous round of applause!  Popular guy.

Simon Zach raises to 41k, same result, but he doesnt get a clap.  He shows Jd Js.  I am very glad people are showing their uncalled hands or we'd be hard pressed to find information to relate...

Kayshan raises to 49k on the button; Eliott and Ian give up the blinds.  I think he's currently ahead on the blind-raising; Roberto and Eliott keeping surprisingly quiet for the first 20 hands.

Last two hands involved Hoss and Simon.

First up, they both checked a board down from the blinds only for Hoss to take it down with T-7 (2 pair) on a board of 4c Ac 7s Qc Ts, thus showing the table that he's capabale of a cheeky check on the River with a strong hand.

Then, the very next hand, Hoss calls from the button only for Simon to raise it up from the small blind to 47k. After Steve passed, Hoss glanced over at his neighbour and gave him a gentle staredown. Zach, who was adopting that infamous Hellmuth poker face with chin leaning firmly on knuckles, made brief eye contact with Hoss but showed no signs of breaking. In the end, although I think he was mighty suspicious, Hoss opted to fold.

Ian Nelson raises pre-flop to 40k, Steve Craig makes it 80k and Ian calls.

Flop = 3c 2h 7h

Ian checks, Steve announces all-in and Ian folds, and quickly too.

Ian back to being very low after his earlier double up.

Thats not good, I was really fancying Ian to make a comeback as well.

My tip, however, is one of Roberto Romanello or Michael Greco. Romanello was flashy over the 2 days, but lucky, whereas I thought Michael was playing solid poker.

Hoss calls a 49k bet preflop from Kayshan (surprise).  Simon thinks for a long while but no one else is interested, including short stacks Ian and Dave Smith, even though in the small blind there's quite a bit of value...

Flop: Qh Ks Jc  Kayshan checks, Hoss stares from beneath the brim of his GUKPT hat before betting 60k.  Kayshan immediately announces all in; Call just as quickly, and it's obvious why - he's flopped bottom set and is on the way to cracking a bigger pair (the only one which wouldn't have a bigger set now, incidentally)...

Hoss:  Jd Js
Kayshan:  Ad Ahrt

Turn:  5c
River:  4s

They measure up the chips, and it turns out Kayshan Muthy finishes 9th, winning £6,300

If there's one thing Dave Smith isn't, it's tight. You only have to look back at yesterday's thread where he moved in with 5-5 on a T-J-Q Flop, only to outdraw A-K to stay in the comp.

Personally, I think Kayshan could have bet this one out rather than committing his chips on a check-raise, especially with a flop this dangerous (think about all the hands Hoss could have). Also, if you bet out and find action on a flop like this, you know pretty sharply that your Aces are probably in trouble. Does that make sense or am I talking out of my exit hole?

They measure up the chips, and it turns out Kayshan Muthy finishes 9th, winning £6,300

Personally, I think Kayshan could have bet this one out rather committing his chips on a check-raise, especially with a flop this dangerous (think about all the hands Hoss could have). Also, if you bet out and find action on a flop like this, you know pretty sharply that your Aces are probably in trouble. Does that make sense or am I talking out of my exit hole.

i agree mate but im still gutted for him.

Hi Jen and Snoops,

Has anyone realised that Ian has made his 2nd FT of this tour. He came 3rd at Bolton and was banned at Walsall. Good to see Kayshan made the FT sat with him for 3-4 levels at Walsall.

2 of my pics still in Rekwob and Ian Nelson but I hope Kayshan wins.
(Very good player and top bloke)

Greg

Yep, all noted. In fact he's very fortunate to be playing this comp at all after his ban at Walsall. Fortunately for Ian, Danny (aidenson on blonde) decided not to have him banned from all Grosvenors, which he could have easily done.

Turn:  5c

That extremely large pot which eliminated Kayshan and gave Hoss a fair to monstrous lead was an odd one - both players, apart from the brief dwell for appearance's sake on the flop by Hoss before he bet his set after it was checked to him, acted very quickly.  Neither one was short, and Kayshan had been doing a good job of stealing preflop (I think; we can't see their hole-card cameras in here, sadly).  Counting to ten before making decisions, is something Hoss in particular looks like he could benefit from  (see: tilt all-in with eight high into Romanello's trips earlier).

Kayshan had been flat called preflop - an insta-check-raise all in was a very strong move (and perhaps made without reference to the sorts of hands which can easily call 40k to take a flop against an aggressive player; K-Q, A-T, etc).  Instacalling is also pretty brave - a real hand check-raising all in there probably isn't any weaker than two pair, or at a push Aces.  I wouldn't have been surprised to see A-T or a bigger set with that kind of move - and neither would Hoss, probably.

It is, of course, really tough to coolly contemplate players' ranges when you're on the televised final (I imagine) and either have Aces you're trying not to see lose, or flop a set, regardless of the other board cards.  Just worth mentioning that while some players might dwell until the rest of the table feel like time is stretching, others act hastily, sometimes with interesting (or disastrous) consequences.

Michael Greco raises it up to 40k pre-flop and Ian, in the big blind (16k), sticks in his last 39k.

Michael of course calls and shows A-To. Ian turns over K-7o.

Board = 8h 8d 6s 3h 9c.

We've lost the Liverpudlian.

Seems like a really odd play this by Nelson, who has a history of letting himself getting very low. However, it worked in Bolton as he managed to climb the ladder right up to 3rd place.

In this case, though, I think he should have made his move earlier, perhaps on the last hand when he was under the gun - at least that way he has a chance of stealing the blind and surviving the round.

Personally, I'm not keen at all in waiting for the big blind to hit me and then calling (pretty much) off all my chips with King high. I'd much rather be the agressor.

Eliott raises to 51k, winning a brief pot off Simon Zach, albeit with another lengthy consider.  He remarks something like, "I keep getting people who don't believe me on my left," after being made to sweat a bit.

Dave Smith announces all in again; no callers.  He's not really climbing in chips, still a short stack - the only call resulted in that split pot earlier.  Well, nick enough blinds pushing preflop and you'll get all the chips eventually.

Eliot Bowker is OUT and becomes the 7th place finisher winning £12,600

Elliot Bowker raises it up pre-flop and Roberto Romanello calls.

Roberto then says "I check blind" before the Flop is dealt.

Flop = 3d Td Tc

The laid back Elliot sits back for a moment before leaning forward, reaching for a column of chips and betting 70k.

"Have you got Ace King?" asks an inquisitive Romanello.

Elliot, who told me earlier that he just says random things to Romanello when he asks these probing questions, simply decides to shrug his shoulders.

"I call," announces Roberto adamantly.

"And I check," he says before the Turn arrives.

Turn = 3s

Elliot thinks for a moment before moving all-in.

Roberto calls immediately, turns over his A-T and rises from his chair in excitement.

A gutted Elliot turns over Queens and seems to know his fate, even before the rag River.

"A big round of applause for Elliot Bowker," says Big Mike on the er... mike as the online whiz kid exits the stage.

"I knew he had Ace Ten," added Greco. "That's exactly what I put him on."

Hoss raises to 50k, Dave Smith is the big blind... he doesn't go for it this time, although appearing tempted, at least.

Mike (the announcer - and very good he is too) tells the audience as they have a break that they're just not making enough noise - he's really doing his best, even calling "Anyone from Southampton??" to which he received stony silence in reply.  I might go down and see if it being quiet down there is a lack of atmosphere, or just a tense one.

Kh 3c Qh flop seen by Dave and Hoss
Turn:  Ac
River:  2h
Check-check to the river, where Hoss bets 60k to win that small one.

There was a bit of banter on this hand with Zach asking for a count and commenting, "Are you moving in from early position with A-9 again". Dave says "I can't hear" to which Zach jokingly remarks, "I forgot you were death." (Dave often says pardon when someone ask him a question during a hand).

Then Greco amusingly adds, "He said you had a stupid hat."

All good fun and will make jolly good TV.

Time for the Simon to take a pot down now, and although it wasn't easy, fellow Dusk Till Dawn enthusiast, Michael Greco, made him sweat, even asking for a chip count (which was 161k excluding the initial 46 raise). "Okay, I fold," says Greco.

Meanwhile, the crowd give a gentle and half-hearted ripple of applause to which Zach responds by trying to get them more excited, upping the applause by raising his hands up in the air in encouragement.

Simon Zach limps and so does Roberto Romanello from the small blind, saying "I'm going to call blind, even though I think you could have a monster."

Dave Smith sees this as his opportunity to move in, which he does indeed do, first getting Zach to fold, and then Roberto (who had 7-3 off), but only after Roberto asked if he had a big hand and lifted Dave's hand up to see - the body part that is!

Dave shows an Ace.

Roberto has the button; as expected in goes 45k.  Small blind Hoss gets needled, "Go on, re-raise me," says Roberto.. He does - to 166k.
"You sure you got a hand, if I pass?"  He counts out the chips, "It's gonna be a big pot, isn't it?  But if I take 'em all, I've got a good chance of winning it.  You think you're beating me?"
Anyway, Hoss isn't in the talking mood, just says, "Call the bet."  "OK."
Flop:  7c 8s 8d  Check from Hoss "I haven't got an Eight."  "I'm gonna take a risk, just in case," says Roberto, betting 100k at the same time as saying "I think you're winning.  I think you got me.  You don't want to pass the winning hand do you?  You can't pass.  There's a lot of people watching too.  You call every time - I've been watching you."

Hoss passes, after that unrelenting verbal onslaught; Roberto shows Ahrt Qh, and picks up the pot with shaky hands.

"Some of it, hmm," says Greco. "Okay, I bet 50k."

"I think you've got me," comments Hoss as he folds.

Michael Greco thinks about calling Steve's s.b. bet on the big blind; "I love this hand.  I have good odds..." Call.
Flop:  5s Qs 7h  Check-check
Turn:  6d  Steve bets 40k, Michael calls.
River:  4h  Steve counts out a bet while Michael says "Whoa whoa whoa!"  Bets 90k, Michael instantly moves in, saying, "I told him."  Then gets up and kind of bounces around the tournament area, coming to a standstill behind his potential caller.  Who passes.  One for the DTD player, who's still lagging behind Roberto in the chat league, however.

Odd hand for you now, and our first real familiy pot of the final.

Dave, Hoss, Simon, Craig and Michael (sb) all limp. Roberto checks his big blind.

Michael and Roberto both check in the dark.

Flop = Ad 5h Ts

Everyone checks.

Turn = 3d

"Even if I've got trips I'm going to check," says Roberto.

Everyone checks.

River = 5s

Michael bets 55k, Roberto calls instantly, Dave dwells and folds simultaneously saying, "probably the winning hand that" and everyone else folds.

Michael = Js 3h

Roberto = Jc 5d

Not too sure about Michael's River bet there, must have thought someone had the Ten or a pocket pair like sevens or sixes and he could get them to fold.

2s 5h 4s Tc Jh  s.b. Roberto vs. b.b. Dave.  Not too much to report, won by Romanello with King high after boring check-down.

The next hand though, Michael Greco called a 46k raise preflop from Steve, so did Hoss.
Flop:  Qh 3s Kc
Turn:  8s Hoss checks, so do the others
River:  6c  It checks round to Michael who showed Tc Td, won, and expressed surprise at Hoss' 9s 6s call preflop, before getting dangerously close to giving lessons, "Well, you had a flush draw..."

Simon Zach at the dinner break was getting a grilling from Womble, but explained himself to the satisfaction of all parties...he looked a bit frustrated at having not found a chance to take on the big stacks, remaining towards the bottom chip wise.  But there was even table talk during dinner so who knows what they've been threatening each other with...

As I write this he's moving in preflop over the top of Roberto (see what I mean) for 175,000 total - CALL

Simon shows:  Aspades 5h
Roberto shows:  8s 8c
Flop: Tc Kh 2d
Turn: Js  (Simon's sunglasses in his mouth)
River:  Ks

So right after dinner and we lose Simon Zach in 6th place, for £15,750

Steve Craig and Dave Smith are now the short stacks, in trouble against the chips of the other three - liable to need to win at least one of those on-their-backs tourney-on-the-line type things just to be able to play any poker in these later stages.

Steve's already made his first pre-flop push, no callers.

Js 2s Qh flop is seen by, everyone, I think.  Checked round, the turn comes:  Jd.  Dave and Hoss checks, Roberto bets 40k and Hoss calls, saying "I think you've got nothing."
"You're right, I have."
2d and Hoss now has Deuces full, which takes out Roberto's Ace-high (double-check on the river).

Dave moves all-in from early position with 59k (has to move at some point) but runs into two callers in Hoss and Steve.

The two bigger stacks check down a Flop and Turn of Js Qc 3c Kd before Hoss bets 100k on the River.

Hoss turns over a Jack, but Dave wins with a Queen and trebles up.

Nice little cheer from the crowd to boot.

After that, Steve Craig is now in the same position - moving all in soon thereafter for 143k.  Roberto Romanello asks for a count, and then says, "I shouldn't have asked," before dwelling and asking if he'll show if he passes (that old chestnut).
"Do you want me to call?"  (here we go again)
"I do."
"Let's gamble."

Roberto: Jh 7h
Steve:  Ks Qd
Flop:  6h 5d 8s  (the press room is convinced that it's all over)
Turn:  6d
River:  Tc
But no - bullets dodged, and a stack which Roberto might not autocall if he pushes in.

Michael Greco and Hoss Parhazkar get tangled up in a potentially action packed hand which failed to live up to the hype of what they were holding, eventually fizzing out due to the scary flop.

Greco (raising 40 pre-flop) = Tc Th

Parhazkar (calling the 40k raise) Qd Qs

Both checked down the Aspades 2s Kd 6c 4s

"Damn, I should have bet," moans Greco kicking himself.

Hoss raises on the button to 75k (although he does say, "Bet" which it would do him a favour to replace with the word, "Raise" in general to avoid confusion in these situations).

Michael calls.  Flop:  8h Qh Jh  Michael checks, Hoss checks.
Turn:  8s  check-check
River:  Kc

Hoss shows A-Q while Michael had a pair of Jacks - somehow that got all the way through without a single bet.  Hoss takes it with top two.

Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on March 25, 2007, 09:44:02 PM
Flop:  2h Qd 3d  (threeway)
Turn 2d  Michael bets out 30k, called by Roberto only.
River:  9h  Michael bets 100k.  Roberto shakes his head, but calls.

Greco showed 9c 9d for the winning house, Nines full - it was announced that Rob had "Trip Kings" but since that's impossible it was either Kings or something with a Deuce in it in Roberto's hand.  Plus he said, "You rivered me."  In any case he'd lost his chance to win it with earlier bets - but then again he (Rob)'s pretty near impossible to put on a hand.

Dave Smith is OUT and becomes the 5th place finisher winning £18,900

Everyone sees a cheap flop, except for Romanello, ironically.

Flop = 6s 4d 4s

All check.

Turn = 5d

Dave Smith (small blind) announces all-in for 99k.

Folds round to Greco who asks for a count.

"Got a draw, Dave?"

"No."

"Trip fours?"

"I can't tell you that."

"I call"

"Nice hand"

Greco shows 9-9 which holds up against Dave's K-5, the 6d River giving both players three pairs.

Steve Craig is OUT and becomes the 4th place finisher winning £25,200

Hoss and Steve see a cheap Flop of 5c 6h 7d

Hoss checks, Steve bets 40k and Hoss moves all-in.

After sizing up his opponent, Steve decides to call.

Steve = 7s 9s

Hoss = 6s 5s

Turn = 3h

Lots of outs.

River = Tc

Players are busting out faster than we can take pictures of the repositioned final table (they've taken out chairs in the middle and shuffled the remaining 5,4,3 into a row, which is a bit odd from a would-be-stare-down perspective)... here's what it looked like five minutes ago:

Blinds 15k/30k

Roberto makes up the small blind, blind, which won't surprise those who know him.

Hoss doesn't let him in cheap though and bets out 100k.

"That's a big raise, isn't it?" commented the amicable Welshman as he peels his cards.

"I have a small pair," says Hoss adamantly.

"Small pair?"

"Yes."

Roberto shows an Ace and adds, "Not this time, not this time."

"You're playing too good, mister," finishes Hoss.

What is all this chat about deals ?

I thiought that DTD has a strictly "no deals" policy ???
[/quo

maybe DTD do have a no deals policy, but this is not a DTD tournament...so it wouldnt apply here would it....

Roberto's big blind is called by Hoss on he button, and small blind Mike.  No raise.
Flop:  Kh 3d Ac  Check-check-check
Turn:  5s  Check-Roberto bets 90k (does this pattern look familiar?)- Hoss flat calls.  Michael passes.
River:  7h  Roberto checks, Hoss checks and shows Ks Qd  vs. Roberto's Jd 7d which was extremely unlikely to have called a river bet anyway.

Greco folds 7c 4d on the big blind.

Cheap three way flop.

4c Js Jd

check, check, check

Turn = 3h

Greco, hand on chin and covering half his face, bets 40k.

Both opponents call, and pretty quickly too.

River = 50k

Checked around to Hoss who bets out 50k.

Greco exhales deeply before asking, "Do you have a Jack?" - the line of questioning really hasn't been particulalry original today.

Hoss doesn't really respond, and Greco, who I reckon might have a fou,r decides to leave it for Romanello.

"Nah, he's got lucky with his J-T this time," says Romanello as he releases his hand.

Hoss calls preflop, but Michael Greco wants to raise it - 90k more.  "I just saw my cards and thought I've got to raise it, see where I am."  No real interest from Hoss on that one, and he sees where he is, I guess.

Greco:  "Are you talking to me or him?"  Hoss passes.

Glad to see my two main picks are still in...although I wouldn't have to want to pick one of these 3...could be any of them walking away with that £97,000 odd 1st prize.

Pretty sure that I heard someone say they had a fiver on Roberto to win at a betting website. The odds? 190/1.

They check it all the way with a 3h 6s 4s Th 5d board.

Romanello takes it with A-6 vs. A-4.

First accidental word of the day comes from The Hoss who, during a hand in which Roberto took the blinds with A-K, let the ol ' F word slip out. Oopsy daisy.  ;ashamed;

Still, he's quite a way behind Shaf's current record.

Whilst Jen and Snoopy have been busy recording the action for the blondites, i've been scampering around grabbing interviews and managed to collar Ellliot Bowker and Simon Zach.I hope neither minds me posting a very small tidbit here, if so please PM me.

 Simon was very happy with how he'd played. Saying, "I never outdrew anyone once and the one time I wanted too, (A-5 vs Eights) it didn't happen. I love these tournaments and i'll be playing every one."

Meanwhile for Elliot, who btw has an incredible memory for hands he's played, blinds, positions, stack sizes etc.  said he was 'card dead' at the final table said he'd played mostly 'small ball' for the tournament, had enjoyed it and should've played his final hand differently.

In this hand Hoss had limped on the button, and considered Roberto's preflop raise for a good while.  When he showed the AK Roberto said, "You think I'm raising with nothing?"  to which he received an affirmative reply.  "Remember the last hand? [QQ vs. AK] You were the one who got lucky..."  This in reference to Hoss claiming that that rivered wheel which kept Roberto's Queens in the tournament was lucky for him, whereas all the money had indeed gone in preflop.

I was sat with Elliott for 3 hours on the first day, rekwob he's known around on the net, if you do a google search you'll find him. He pushed on me with a flush draw in the first hour! So I doubt he played too much 'small ball', very quiet guy, but a good player, can understand why he succeeds in the game. I actually tipped him or the greco to win last night when down to 3 tables, hopefully my latter prediction will be correct (I railed greco's table for couple hours yesterday, and he played very well. He does seem to get a little frustrated though, that would be one thing I picked up on, but has a good understanding of everything, and really has come on since I last saw him in a TV tourn.

Hoss and Roberto reach the Turn on a board of Qc Kh 9s 4c.

Roberto bets 40k and Hoss calls.

River = Ks

Roberto picks up a stack of red chips and is about to drop them across the line when Hoss says, "I know you haven't got a King, don't bother".

Roberto, being a fan of chit-chat, stops, draws back his hand and replies, "I know I haven't got a Jack, but I think I'm ahead."

He then goes on to ask, "If I check, will you bet it, be honest now."

Hoss hesitates before answering, "I'm going to bet."

"Honestly?" asks Roberto.

"Yes."

"Okay, I check," says Roberto.

And with this, Hoss checks behind him and shows A-9, a pair but way behind Roberto's J-T, the latter clearly believing his opponent was going to stay true to his word.

The questions is, however, should the verbal declaration be binding?

Threeway Flop:  Js 9h 7d  Roberto calls the flop bet from Michael (notice how I can leave ambiguity of amount without making it really obvious I don't know it).
Turn:  Jd  Roberto checks, Michael bets 80k, call.
River:  4c  Roberto checks, Michael shows K-J for trips, while Roberto shows pocket Sixes.  Another to Greco.
_________________________________

Kc Qs 7s check-check-check  (there really are a lot of these threeway limp-check flops)
Turn:  Td  Hoss checks, Michael bets 60k, Roberto calls instantly.  "You never believe me," says Greco.  "I don't know what to believe..."
River:  Ks  Michael checks - check behind  Q-8 for Michael beating Roberto's T-J

Roberto likes the flop play: "It's much better now - I'm enjoying this," despite conceding quite a few small pots to his neighbour in the last half hour.

he did mention that hand, but then, he said he got moved to a table on day one, where there were a lot of big stacks and he at the time had around 15-20k, he found aces vs kings, doubled up and then played it pretty tight.

VERBAL DECLARATIONS BEING BINDING.. well the grovensor has a policy in some of their casinos that moody is permitted, therefore, you can say what you want...not sure what the cardiff club rule is though.........

Ah, that would make sense. It's cos I had check-raised a couple of times I guess why he pushed. I laid down by 96o on the 6s,4h,3s flop, I was mega surprised when he pushed tho! I folded, and he showed the Q of spades quickly. He also commented on a hand where he said 'I know that guy doesn't have anything'. Expect to see him at a few finals in future.

Play has really slowed up. There's a lot of table talk, but it's not quite as entertaining as before and has unfortunately become slightly tedious.

Got any good jokes then?

:dontask:

A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator, "My friend is dead! What can I do?"

The operator, in a calm soothing voice says, "Just take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard.

The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: "OK, now what?"

Roberto moves in after a raise from Hoss preflop.  The chat starts to flow freely:  "I've got rubbish, but I'll show you - that's how confident I know you've got nothing."  Hoss does indeed fold, showing an Ace, and Roberto shows the Ks...

Michael Greco doesn't want to be left out. "You had pocket Kings.  I know you have pocket Kings.  I'll give you a grand afterwards if you didn't have pocket Kings."
"You promise?" asks Roberto...

Word is out that a deal has been struck.

They are taking home 50k each to effectively guarantee themselves 2nd place each, and playing for the remaining 32k.

The 32k doesn't include the Grand final seat and the £10 added money, which makes the total 45k.

Oh yeah, and the Blue Square watch. So that's 45k + £4.99

Roberto raises to 100k (that's a min raise), Michael Greco calls.
Flop: Th 6c 8d  Michael calls the 120k bet from Roberto
Turn:  Kc  Check-check
River:  8c  Michael checks, Roberto checks his J-2 and 7c 8s in Michael's hand proves the winner.

Everyone's getting a bit tired now, I gather another checked-to-the-river pot between Hoss and Roberto saw the Welshman misread his winning straight for a pair of Jacks.  And we just had a pause while everyone tried to remember who was meant to have the button.  It's been a long four days.

It's checked to the river on another one between Michael and Roberto, who ends up saying, "I can only win by betting," putting in 220k on the river with the board:  7s Kc Aspades 4d 3s.  Just like before, Michael moves in on him, despite Roberto having said, "Last time I bet the river, you moved in on me."  Some sort of failed reverse psychology?

Roberto showed the pocket Deuces he was folding...

Hoss makes what he called 'a small bet' (50k) pre-flop, which Greco called.

Flop = Ad 9d Kd

check check

Turn = 5s

check check

River = 2h

"You don't have any of that," comment The Hoss.

"Everytime you say something like that you have a good hand," responds Greco.

The Hoss then bets 200k.

"Have you got an Ace?" asks Greco.

The Hoss looks down at his hand, but doesn't answer.

Greco then opts to fold, although he did that he had a decent piece of that board.

Hoss calls on the button; check.  Michael checks in the dark the 2h Qc 5s flop.  Check back.
Turn:  Jh  check-check
River:  6s  check-check   Michael's J-6(!) wins by a mile.  "I was waiting for you to bet..." he almost apologises.  We reckon he might be waiting a while, and betting a bit might get it won quicker - he does have a 2:1 lead...

What can I say, I can't top that picture.  Thanks to Grosvenor Cardiff for being so hospitable, thanks to Wifi for existing, and congratulations to all who experienced the joy of a successful poker tournament.

That's all from us, we have to be in Monte Carlo in less than 34 hours.  So ;stickaforkinme;

Look on the left of the pucture, the person who you cant see with the welsh feathers on his jacket- THATS ME!!!! I tried to muscle in on the photo but just got caught out. I was there til the end and hopefully have got in the tv show. Was a great final and the best player won it, even if he is welsh that romanello guy is an absolute tool IMO!! Had great fun for the last hour and a half of the final as i was sitting next to the blue square dolly bird in the picture AND i nicked a set of the kem arrows they were using for the final so a really happy but very tired. Cant believe jen cut me out of the pic though, was another claim to fame i was going to add to the scrapbook!!! Great tourney, superbly run and am just absolutely devestated i didnt play in it!!!! The GUKPT are superb events!!!

Im off to sleep now.
