Title: English teams in Champions league final Post by: Indestructable on April 10, 2007, 10:23:37 PM Well there will be at least one if not two English teams in the Champions league final. If we have two English teams in the final I will be extremely proud to be English. Just think of some of the players that we will be may able to watch such as
Ronaldo Drogba Kuyt Alonso Shevchenko Ballack Essien Heinze Alonso Agger The list goes on I do hope that an English club wins the final. ;whistle; Title: Re: English teams in Champions league final Post by: iceman on April 10, 2007, 10:33:35 PM after such a nights events i refuse to be cynical, great result for the english premiership-and im a gooner!

He mentioned the other home counties but I dont' agree that you can count them in an English line up, they are as good to England as French, Dutch, German players etc, they are either English or not.
Anyway, it doesn't bother me anyway. I'm happy to watch the best players in the world playing in the English Premiership. It's a shame there aren't more English, but what can you do. Title: Re: English teams in Champions league final Post by: Ecosse on April 11, 2007, 09:58:25 PM Personally I think the 'Champions League' sucks. At least the name does. 3 English teams in the semi's now, hardly a league of champions. All the old European scoring records are getting bladdered now, only because of the volume of games. Good format, I love watching it but the competition's title is well past it's sell by date. Dougie. But the may the media go on about how wonderful English teams are doing is a bit of a joke. These are in the main English brands or franchises rather than English teams. I am i favour of a ruling that you have a minimum number of English players. An alternative would be how would we feel if an English club made up of 100% Italian players won the Champions league? Title: Re: English teams in Champions league final Post by: dan on April 12, 2007, 10:45:25 AM No. They are too slow. And alot of english footballers arent good enough. Although I would like to see more english players at arsenal if they are not good enough why bother?? What english players could arsenal buy that would make our team better.? Gerrard,Lampard,Rooney,Terry arent going anywhere and average players like Owen Hargreves are being touted around for £20m+. Carrick is a good player and goes for £16m+ but hes hardly world class. SWP went for £21m and even Darren Bent had an £18m price tag on him in the last window.we could end up paying the best part of £12m for Walcott. If people think that the Premiership is elitest what would it be like if you had to field 3,4,or even 5 englishmen in a team. Chelsea and Man Utd would just buy the decent english players and the rest would be left with the likes of Titus Bramble and Ben Thatcher. People say that it has an effect on the english national team but in my opinion that is complete BS. The english team at present has some great players in it and is possibly on paper one of the strongest squads in the world, it is just down to poor management that they have underacheived. Im not saying that the usage of said vocabulary is correct, but its going to be brandished around in the football world, why should here be differant? I don't know the answer, I ask cause I don't know Bayern and Milan tend to have about 50% of home nation players, but then Germany and Italy are historically providing some of the best players in the world. The Germans usually do keep themselves to themselves, it's not often you see German players outside Germany and they don't tend to flood their teams with imported players either. I think the Italians are a bit more like the English teams, they pay for the best, it just happens that a lot of Italians are the best. I think Spain is pretty much the same, not sure about the Dutch league though, it's a pretty weak league overall imo and they don't attract the best players, so I guess they are mainly homegrown too. Just my thoughts on this, I could of course be miles off :D Title: Re: English teams in Champions league final Post by: LeKnave on April 12, 2007, 01:56:36 PM Carrick is a good player and goes for £16m+ but hes hardly world class. thought he looked world class on tuesday I think I couldve looked world class on tuesday lol. because we're not on the terraces. you've been here long enough to get it. we don't put each other down, flame, call names, etc. It's what makes blonde different.
