Sam spent plenty of his birthday money ... including 50 notes for a pair of jeans and 30 quid on a T-Shirt !!!!
So we get to the dog track and we have a tenner each me..first 10 races 3-6 50p reverse forecasts __ Sam 1-5 50p reverse forecasts. Rookie ,Skrikera and old man ITB turn up and we are all having a laugh and a giggle..cracking company. Anyway, after the first race i spot a $5 note lying on the floor right next to us ... no one around so I pick it up and tell Sam that we will put it on a dog in the next race ... Trap 3 obliges at 3/1 ..happy days. to cut a long story short, after drinks and entry fees are taken out, we get 2 forecasts up to get the 20 quid back AND we turn the £5 note into a clear profit of £130 by the last race. Rookie, Skrikera and ITB all finished in front as well so it was a quality night out. Please also note that those buggers INCLUDING Sam were scoffing hot dogs and chips all night... but despite plenty of teasing and provocation, I didnt weaken and kept the discipline going :) Thanks guys for coming, Sam had a fantastic time and was buzzing all the way home. Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: Graham C on June 11, 2007, 11:42:51 PM Great going! Glad you had fun and made money :D
Well done on being disciplined Kev ;applause; it's worth the effort Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: turny on June 11, 2007, 11:59:37 PM as kev said you all missed a great night.
young sams a credit to his old man though must get his good looks from his mother or they had a hansom milkman 15 years and 9 months ago lol was a quality night as kev said we all finished up. i shouldve won more than i did but lumped on the last few races to do most of my profit. i was £50 up over all, skikera won a few pounds thanks to the last race winner and the luckbox rookie after failing to cash in the first 6 races and being £150 down ended the night over £200 up after also backing the last winner. come to think of it i was the only mug not on the last winner deciding to stick my £40 on a donkey. anyway's looked like sam had a great and his half of the winnings covered his afternoon spending spree so all worked out well. thanks sam and kev for the invite i loved it! Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on June 12, 2007, 01:10:59 AM Ditto, good night for sure.
For the record, i did not eat kev, out of respect. LOL. And Ling says she distinctly remembers you having 1, yes 1, WHOLE chip. Salt and all. Nice for all to come out with a profit, the last race was the best though. Everyone thinking trap 4, jumping from 5/2 to 6/4 was tooled up, only for me skrikera and kev to shove our money on the trap 5 at 7/2 and count the winnings :D Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on June 12, 2007, 01:11:49 AM Ling says "I hope sam didnt mind giving me a kiss"

Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: Ironside on June 12, 2007, 02:20:22 AM mccrick was poor before he was a crap bookie and a crap buisnessman
a bookie should never go broke and the betting exchanges mean that they have insurance for any bet Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: turny on June 12, 2007, 02:25:01 AM mccrick was poor before he was a crap bookie and a crap buisnessman a bookie should never go broke and the betting exchanges mean that they have insurance for any bet not disputing he wasn't iron lol just your question was have u ever seen a poor bookie(no other criteria) so i answered it lol bookies have always had the facility to lay off there liabilities long befor ebetting exchanges. but some chose not to by being to greedy and gambling themselves. thats how bookies go broke! Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: Ironside on June 12, 2007, 02:28:03 AM before betting exchanges they could lay off the bets elsewhere but with the betting exchanges they can do it and get +EV on the odds where as before it was -EV and thus gave them the inclination to gamble
Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: turny on June 12, 2007, 02:32:43 AM the odds arent always better on the exchanges.
they used to get +ev because they would get there lay off bets tax free (in the days of 10% tax) Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: JungleCat03 on June 12, 2007, 03:54:01 AM think you got it wrong there mate. before betting exchanges high street bookies were a lisence to print money. after the launch of spread betting and then betting exchanges bookmakers were in dire straits. it was only the introduction of roulette machines in the shops that saved them. in fact many shops only survive because of these machines. and you asked if id ever seen a poor bookie, answer yes mcCririck though not poor anymore. My brother works for the tote and tells me a similar story to this. The machines in bookies are a goldmine. No Sam didnt mind at all, In fact i think he would be willing to go through it again LOL Title: Re: Going to the dogs ...again Post by: lazaroonie on June 14, 2007, 03:09:35 AM the odds arent always better on the exchanges. they used to get +ev because they would get there lay off bets tax free (in the days of 10% tax) bookies are suffering the same risk to their business from the internet as everyone else is - betting exchange can offer better prices, they dont have any overheads, meaning that the the traditional bookie is having to offer bigger prices and basically have less margin in their book. all good news for the punter though....Although try to go into one of the corporates (hills, laddies etc) and have a grand at an early price on any event....good luck ! |
