Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: RED-DOG on June 20, 2007, 10:43:07 PM How come they have some geezer telling you all about the film and showing you scenes from it just before you watch it?
I enjoy some of the American documentaries but before they start they give the game away by spamming the programme you are about to watch. Then, before a commercial break they tell you what's happening Now..... Next..... Then..... WTF?? BTW, you are right, it's a crap film. Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: bolt pp on June 20, 2007, 10:48:40 PM you shouldve carried on watching it, he's character changes every 5 mins, it's funny.
the worst time being when the lead character, an introverted, neurotic ,understated croupier who aspires to be a writer nearly beats this hench Maltese guy that has cheated to death outside the casino because...........ready for this.............."I HATE CHEATS" 8) ;snoopy'sguns; ffs ::) Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: Snatiramas on June 21, 2007, 12:01:40 AM I thoroughly enjoyed this film for the low brow nonsense it is........if there weren't any bad films how would we know what a good film looks like. I say rejoice in the mediocrity of it all
Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: Colchester Kev on June 21, 2007, 01:20:09 AM Just watched it on Film4+1 ... it was watch-able .... I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again mind.
Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: dealerFROMhell on June 21, 2007, 02:15:38 AM Clive Owen is really bad in it, it's a ropey plot anyway.
And that bollocks about passing out the wrong amount on his table test just to see if the pit boss was any good, he would never have got a job! Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 21, 2007, 02:52:15 AM If you want to see a good Clive Owen film, watch Children of Men. I really don't like him as an actor, but that film rocks.

I really don't like him as an actor, but that film rocks. Nah, it's either Sin City or nothing for me. "Well... Jackie Boy" Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: TightEnd on June 21, 2007, 07:35:57 AM Forget Sin City
Even Forget Children of Men (fine film, fantastic cinematography) See Clive Owen in "Closer", then ignore the part of the screen he is on and watch Natalie Portman. ;kev; Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: brummieboy on June 21, 2007, 07:41:08 AM Managed to watch an hour before loosing the will to live.

Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: JungleCat03 on June 21, 2007, 08:57:47 AM Come on give the man a break lol
He fits his part very well in sin city. All the characters are intentionally 2 dimensional and cliched, drawn from the original comic story. He absolutely nails 2 dimensional, cliched characters. PS Agree with tighty, Nathalie Portman is great. She's fit as a bacon sandwich and super talented too. Possibly her best performance was when she was very young in Leon, a quality film. Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: totalise on June 21, 2007, 08:59:23 AM Quote Possibly her best performance was when she was very young in Leon, a quality film. QFT Another good old film of hers (well, I liked it anyway) was beautiful girls Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: Sark79 on June 21, 2007, 09:32:02 AM I know Bolt agrees with me for once :D, Clive Owen is a walking talking plank of wood when acting. I have still to decide who is worse, either himself or Jude Law in the movie he made about a Sky Captain ( not sure of the full title ).
Daniel Craig is our best actor right now. Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: Mango99 on June 21, 2007, 09:45:28 AM When I saw this film I really enjoyed it. I thought Clive Owen nailed his part perfectly. Okay, the plot is pretty convoluted, but if you can suspend disbelief and all that jazz, it's actually quite a fun film.

A wooden actor, even though the Italian Job is a great film ) ewan macgregor ( Grins too much, in Star Wars he was piss ) jim broadbent ( Dull ) daniel day lewis ( I agree, a really good actor ) pete postlethwaite ( His accent grates on my nerves, he was ok in Brassed Off ) ray winstone ( Overrated . Always acts a thug ) ben kingsley ( He is remembered for one film. Ok, he has been in many more, however he is best know for Gandhi ) gary oldman ( not bad , but out of every character in True Romance he was the weakest. His Dracula performance was average at best) alan rickman ( Excellent actor ) lololololol Patrick Stewart is far better than any on your list Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: bolt pp on June 21, 2007, 12:11:57 PM I know Bolt agrees with me for once :D, Clive Owen is a walking talking plank of wood when acting. What about Paul Bettany? he is a brilliant actor. He was great in 'A Knights Tale' , the deleted scenes show his class as an actor Title: Re: Film "Croupier" Post by: kinboshi on June 21, 2007, 01:13:21 PM Robert Carlyle is good too. Robert Carlyle Liam Neeson Christopher Lee Ian Mckellan Sean Connery to name a few, all excellent actors. Perhaps the best of them all in my opinion is Christian Bale. I've never seen him put a bad performance in. Interesting fact about Bale is he's never done the same accent twice in movies he's been in....
