I've just worked out how this works so I'm going for the multi tabling option as well

Although I don't really think 'Zed' should be allowed as a word :) - but 'Zen' is invalid ???

I started a game against Pab (not sure he knows yet) and hit the word "destroyer" with my first set of letters. I'm sure I can manage to lose despite this 70 point headstart....

Title: Re: facebook scrabble
Post by: Laxie on July 26, 2007, 11:48:02 AM
I'm logged in and had no trouble, but for some reason when I click on you or Suzanne, it just comes up with a big '?'.  Doesn't do that with Kinboshi or Robert, so not sure what's wrong with you two.  Probably giving the rest of us a chance to catch up on the scrabble scores...lol

Claire has beaten me every game thus far, matt (acidmouse) won the game with a total score just under 500 points, rich is slowly pulling away in our second game and the only game i think ive won is against andrew which came down to the last remaining tiles to scrape a win. Kin has just challenged me so i hopt to win this one hehe.

Title: Re: facebook scrabble

One thing I've noticed from playing is seeing who thinks Scrabble is a 'make big words' game, and those who realise there's more to it.

Title: Re: facebook scrabble
Post by: RichEO on July 27, 2007, 01:26:32 PM
Of course, it's all about the points, but if you go out, thats 50 points, which is a nice start.

Of course, it's all about the points, but if you go out, thats 50 points, which is a nice start.

Ah, but what about board control?

Opening the board up when you need a big word to catch up, closing it down when you have a lead to protect, denying access to red squares, blocking hanging stems.

It's not all about how many points you make on your immediate move.

Title: Re: facebook scrabble
Post by: Acidmouse on July 27, 2007, 01:57:33 PM
You can tell within a few moves if someone's a scrabble expert or not.

Keeping the board tight and using the standard scrabble moves is all part of the game. Closing up the board only if you playing against someone who will exploit it otherwise once I got a 40+ point lead its autopilot mode.

Thats tighty's game, he never ever gives you an easy chance to put a big word in, superb player.

Title: Re: facebook scrabble
Post by: RichEO on July 27, 2007, 02:31:31 PM
Yeah, I take all that, but it also depends on what sort of game you want.

Most of the time I like an open game, if you beat me, so be it, it's no fun when I can't go.

There are all sorts of ways of playing.  You can play TAG or LAG, sometimes you have to gamble that the other player doesn't hold a certain letter, giving you the opportunity of hitting two big scores in a row.

Think I've just nailed KP with my X making 'xi' twice on a double word score, twice.  I love it when you make 36 points by making two, two-letter words when there are no more tiles in the bag...

Against Ginger however, I got murdered.  Violated at times.  Felt like an imbecile.

Close against Tighty and Suffolk, but I think they both are ahead by a short nose with less than a furlong to go.

I continue to run so bad

Against Acidmouse I went two thirds of the game with 6 or more vowels in my hand

Yep I was running dry had all the 1 value letters :)

It was down for me also, just back up!

Just back from coffee at the neighbour's and mine is working grand.  Anyone up for a 4 person game?  That'll give some one of ya proper bragging rights.

I would play a 4 player game but whenever I have done this in the past i am infront of the player who opens up the board for all the other players :P

Just squeezed home a narrow victory over tighend, had me sweating there with z q left in my rack!

Ruling!!  Wouldn't let me use the word 'year'. The quicker there are standardised rules across every scrabble board in the UK the better it will be for all concerned.

really tempted to play my outstanding (as in waiting, not brilliant) moves whilst here at work, but think that will be taking the occassional internet browsing just a bit too far!  My record at the moment is won 12, lost 2.  Both losses to Acidmouse.  Had a couple of very close games with AdamM though.  Kingpoker is just rubbish.

Gonna have to start thinking about this a bit more i think.

p.s. Ginger thanks for that I always wondered what my ass would look like on a plate.  ;D (getting absolutely murdered)

bloody hell then i go back and she's used all seven again. Right i'm now just making rude words  ;nana;

;gobsmacked; he did as well! is that a valid word!?!

if you choose a 'challenge' game the words don't get checked - kingpoker and I have had a few very funny games where only rude words were allowed (and the spelling rules are relaxed).  He was rubbish at those too - think it's because he's young and inexperienced (and didn't want to question all my made up words/phrases) :)

After u have mullered me in this game im gonna wipe the floor with u in the dirty word challenge game.

so who is bringing the scrabble board to BB5 then?  ;D

I have scrabble deluxe and OSW, which if I make it to my 1st BB will be in my boot!

Had a few live games today, got beaten by my mate who always beats me, but after the practive I've been getting on facebook the last few days, it was closer to usual. But he went out 3 times in the 1st game, no competing with that. I managed to get back to level after he went the 1st time  and I wan on my way back the 2nd time but then he got his hammer and nails out and I was stuck in the cofin for good. Funny game though, I got all the high scoring letters, he got all the easy ones.

Title: Re: facebook scrabble
Post by: Laxie on August 04, 2007, 07:41:16 PM
Dunno really.   rotflmfao  The scrabble crowd have a bunch of 'acceptable' 2 letter words...and they won't allow some of the obvious ones.  It's a mystery only solved if you have the list of 'permitted' 2 letter words.  OK, the mystery of their meaning isn't necessarily solved, but at least ya know what'll get ya 20 points and what won't.  lol

Graham - if you click on the icon on the left, above the names of the people playing, it brings up a dictionary.  You can check the validity of words there, and there's also a list of all accepted two letter words

Took my board to APAT and played a few games once I got knocked out (wasn't much time left by then tho ;)).

Beat Jon MW, then claw and Jon in a 3 way.

Then it was me vs Tighty and Claw and Jon and Tikay and Compo and Official scrabble words!. I lost of course. And Claw trying to swap tiles illegally - like they needed to.

Thought I'd update everyone on the first (is it?) live blonde scrabble game.

you only won coz we were using a different dictionary to the scrabulous one, and you had memorised it!  Jon and I were far superior players.

lol - no cheating involved there!  Ralphing is a term we used to use in school for throwing up i.e. 'got i'm gonna ralph' I tried it, and it allowed it.  Not sure what the dictionary definition would be!

She's dead right there...although I always thought it was a 'yank' term.  Didn't know ye used the same or I was away with it a couple of times.  lol
