Of course, it's all about the points, but if you go out, thats 50 points, which is a nice start.

Ah, but what about board control?

Opening the board up when you need a big word to catch up, closing it down when you have a lead to protect, denying access to red squares, blocking hanging stems.

It's not all about how many points you make on your immediate move.

You can tell within a few moves if someone's a scrabble expert or not.

Keeping the board tight and using the standard scrabble moves is all part of the game. Closing up the board only if you playing against someone who will exploit it otherwise once I got a 40+ point lead its autopilot mode.

Thats tighty's game, he never ever gives you an easy chance to put a big word in, superb player.

One thing I've noticed from playing is seeing who thinks Scrabble is a 'make big words' game, and those who realise there's more to it.

I was one of the 'big word' players until I watched while the big words got their backside kicked...lol  Not great at this game, but having fun while I learn.

Yeah, I take all that, but it also depends on what sort of game you want.

Most of the time I like an open game, if you beat me, so be it, it's no fun when I can't go.

There are all sorts of ways of playing.  You can play TAG or LAG, sometimes you have to gamble that the other player doesn't hold a certain letter, giving you the opportunity of hitting two big scores in a row.

Think I've just nailed KP with my X making 'xi' twice on a double word score, twice.  I love it when you make 36 points by making two, two-letter words when there are no more tiles in the bag...

Against Ginger however, I got murdered.  Violated at times.  Felt like an imbecile.

Close against Tighty and Suffolk, but I think they both are ahead by a short nose with less than a furlong to go.

I continue to run so bad

Against Acidmouse I went two thirds of the game with 6 or more vowels in my hand
