not sure i have bought a tv for a few year

the 1 i got was £100 knocked off it i took out a free years subscription to ITV digital which i did
ITV digital went bust after about 11 months (so that shows you how old it is

i am wanting one with a nice screen that i dont need to squint at and preferably weighing less that the 5 tonne this one weighs

i did a ton of research a year or so ago and ended up getting this which I have been very happy with.

cost me the GF £850 at the time :)

the best place I found to learn this stuff is here

http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php

let us know what you get as I'm gonna need to get another telly pretty soon and I'm sure things have moved on a lot since last year.

btw it took me a while to set up the picture and the sound properly. You will prob need to do this whatever you buy. The AV forum is great for that sort of thing. You really should spend some time there.

If you have the room, I'd still go for a CRT TV if I was looking for one in the £500-£750 region.

The quality is far better than the LCD screens, but obviously they take up a lot more room.

This was our very first TV. It was a 12 volt b&w with a 10in screen, we used to connect it to my dad's lorry battery. Many was the time he would jump into his truck and drive away, usually breaking the wires and once pulling the telly through the window. we solved this problem by removing his ignition keys and putting them on top of the battery.

We had this TV for ages, but one fateful night my brother Tracy threw a boot at me, it missed my head but sheared the vertical hold knob off the telly, instantly plunging us back into the world of radio for the next 6 months.

I did a Google image search for "Perdio TV" and found this picture immediately, it is the exact model that we had. The knob that he knocked off was the top left as we look. I haven't seen this telly for almost 40 years, but that image transported me back to so completely that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I am almost in tears here.

I'm not THAT old, but we used to have an old Sony TV (black and white) with an analogue dial to tune and the good old vertical and horizontal hold.  The number of times we had to watch a programme with the picture scrolling slowly upwards ;D

We obviously got a colour one, but the black and white Sony was the second telly for a long, long time.

funny story actually, when I came back from Holland about 10 years ago I brought my Sony TV with me, not realising that it wasnt really compatible with the UK transmissions (the picture was fine, but there was no sound). The house I was renting had an old push button tv in the garage, which had a lousy picture, but the sound was ok. Not really having money to splash out on a new tv right away I setup a system when I had my TV on the tV stand, the big old push button TV down behind the sofa where it was pretty much out of sight.

anyway some mates came round to watch the football one night and about 3 nights later we were in the pub where one of my mates started quizzing me on my "surround sound" setup, and was it expensive and difficult to install.

i found it difficult to keep a straight face...

My bad.  The 'y' key is next to the 't' key - must have hit it accidentally.
