Greetings all from sunny Birmingham, the real capital of England  :hello:

After a long 12 days in London covering the World Series of Poker Europe, it's somewhat refreshing to be updating a mere two day event. Not only will the reduced field stop me from running around like a wasp on speed, but I might actually be able to pronounce some of the names instead of embarrassingly handing over my notepad and pen to random Scandies and feigning deafness in one ear.

However, there is one thing I'll miss from my recent Leicester Square excursion, and that'll be the all-dancing showgirls that showed up circa 10pm, merrily prancing away to Shirley Bassey's cover of 'Get this Party Started' and bending their legs in ways that would make a Russian gymnast jealous. I hear the Broadway are considering staging a similar stunt this weekend, but I'm not too keen on seeing Barry (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=42) Neville (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=42) and Burnley John in spandex, even if it is a free performance!  :o

As you probably all know, the Broadway's latest shindig has been tootling along all week, and a few familiar faces have been tearing up the felt, the latest being the result of putting Monty Burns and Sven Goran Erikkson into those pods in The Fly film... Last time I was here, Praz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) Bansi (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=353) was running rings around the field, taking down February's Main Event for a remarkable £32,550 and proving that his bracelet win was far from a fluke. And if that wasn't enough, he'd only gone and won the inaugural GUKPT in Bolton less than four weeks prior - not a bad month for the Hit Squadder!

Anyhow, what struck me about last time around was the wonderful structure. These days, most main events have been forced to adopt excellent structures in order to compete in the ever expanding tournament market, but from what I recall, the January event at the Broadway possessed one of the best I'd seen. 15k chips, 60 minute clock, every level under the sun - skill was truly given the utmost chance to prevail, and if you need proof, just head back to the live updates and see how long that bubble took! Good lord, I grew a beard waiting for that last chap to drop.  ;grr;

Whilst Jen was my partner in crime that night, my colleague this time around has yet to be unveiled. I will, however, release a few clues:

(1) The mystery updater is in between the ages of 20 and 80 (ie. not tikay).

(2) The mystery updater has one head.

I have been unable to play The Broadway this week due to work commitments on Thursday & Sunday, which ruled out Wednesday's £300, Thursday's £500, & the Main Event. On Sunday, I'm with Poker Week, we are going to the Litten Tree Pub in High Wycombe to film a "Poker Project" Pub League Final. It's sad that work gets in the way of playing sometimes, but I can't have it both ways.

But I'm in London tonight, seeing a man about a dog. First time in ages, & I'm very nervous......

Hi all, I am indeed alive, but my computer isn't I'm afraid, the Broadway's 100 year old router taking a particular dislike to the Mac brand. And on that note, I believe I hear the distant cheer of the dozens of Mac haters blowing up the party baloons and etching 1-0 on the scoresheet.

However, we are at least posting, the lovely IT guy being called up last minute to spark Maria's rusty laptop into action. Also jumping into life is the Broadway, today's £1,000 Main Event now up and running with Level 1 being that dear old friend, Mr 25/50.

Armed with our brand spanking new camera and our trusted notepad and pens, we hope to bring you some hot level 1 action in the very near future, so watch this space! Word on the Chili vine is that we already have an exit...

There has been an exit and double up already,  An unfortunate Panos Panayi raised it up with  Ad Kd and was called by Matt Tylers  Qc Qh.  I didn't see the hand board itself but am informed that Panos turned a nut flush draw, whilst Matt was going nowhere with trip queens.  I assume all the chips went in then and there and Matts trips improved to a house on the river.   Great stack already for Mr Tyler.

Panos just a few minutes later said to Snoops "I had a massive hand and I couldn't get away from it!"  A few of us may have had to have our £1,000 stretch a little longer.

Also a late arrival is a local and very happy Stuart Fox, joining a table with Alli Mallu, Ash Hussain and Barry Neville, actually named "Table large boy"  Pic to follow.

Crikey O'Reilly, we've had another exit, it's as if no one wants to play today! This time, the victim is D Ruparellia, the latest to crumble under the magnifying glass of PI Dick Slade. In full investigative mode, poker's favourite detective looked his opponent up and down like a piece of raw meat as he mulled over a 3,125 all-in on a  5c Qc 8c 9h board. Ruparellia looked calm under the Slade spotlight, but the Prestonian wasn't convinced, calling, and correctly so, a third of his stack with Qs 4s. Ruparellia sheepishly revealed an inferior 9s 7s and one harmless Aspades river later and it was all over for Ruparellia, Slade left to bask in the glory of all the "good call" compliments from his neighbours. Watch this space for updates on the size of Slade's head.

Arriving fashionably (if this guy can ever be fashionable!) late is a somewhat intoxicated Mr Fox. Although the near bracelet winner is denying his alcohlic antis prior to this event, he is clearly blurry eyed and chatting more than Parkinson in his prime. This go-to-the-pub-beforehand regime seems to be working out for him though, as the now shaven headed Brummie is up to a rather staggering 22.5k after just one level. The question is, can he last the day on his current booze mission?

In fact, how about this for a question... How many beers do we put Foxy on by the end of the night?

Excluding his pre-match warmu-up, he's currently finishing off his first pint. Any guesses? I'm going for 8.

Good Lord, is that the bizarre sound of a 4th elimination I hear? Yes, my ears do not decieve me, as incredibly, we've lost yet another. This time around it's local boy Chris Gavriel, who finalled in the February festival here. No luck this time around, table neighbour Dean Mitchell snipering him off with A-T versus A-9 on an Ace high Flop.

In fact, Mitchell was slightly surprised about the turn of events: "I couldn't believe it," he retold. "I called his raise and bet out on an A-T-rag flop. He moved all-in with A-9 and I called."

The Hewston/Mallu style of play not quite working for Chris this time around, but I'm sure we'll see him back in the fray soon.

Wandering around the card room, I always see Mad Turk in a hand or commenting about a hand.  He is involved in most pots, talking during every move and action, and when it goes wrong says "well u gotta try havent you?"  Well trying he is and his stack is up to a healthy 24k already.  He told me that he promised Ash Pervais that by the time he arrives at Broadway about 8.30pm tonight, he was gonna be chip leader... He certainly is keeping true to his promise.

Dave Colclough has a lively table sat next to a certain Con Cronin aka "the dazzling cornelius from smethwick."  He keeps quoting god so I stopped listening hehe.

Any pics of Neil or has he broken the camera?

I'm a bit er... camera shy at the moment because the flash is more startling than the elephant man in an overcoat, but I grabbed a few piccies during the break. Will also try to snap one of Neil when they return.

In the meantime, I was lucky enough to hear a few half-time stories, one from the ever-consistent Marcus Bebb-Jones who is bouncing up and down like a spring on a trampoline. He first neared the felt when his set of queens was bust on the river by a K-T which made a... ahem, Broadway straight before trebling back up to 8k with 7-5 versus two sets of A-J on a tasty A-5-5 Flop.

On a sidenote, I can confirm that the double-barrelled surname is not the result of a loss of power when marrying his current wife. He's the man of the house, much like Chili who has informed me that she's not giving up her familiy name if she is to get married. Glenn Demetriou... hehe.

Personally, I'm the same, I wear the trousers in my relationship and I have Dana's permission to say so.

Balancing her time more efficiently between playing and updating, Jen 'Mrs Merton' Mason is out there in the battlefield still, albeit slightly bamboozled after being knocked down to the 7k mark by Neil Blatchey.

Bit of an odd one really, and one in which Jen confesses that she could have played better. It was Neil who got the ball rolling, raising to 300 pre-flop, Jen calling with A-K. An A-J-4 flop, and Neil bet out 500, Jen again disguising her hand with a sneaky, but ultimately risky smooth call.

The turn was a Queen, and yet again, Neil fired a bullet, this time 800. Guess what... Jen called.

The river came a 5 of spades, making a possible runner runner flush on the board. I don't need to tell you what Neil did, I think you're detecting the pattern here. 1,600 on this occasion, but low and behold, out comes Jen with a raise to 3,600, confident that she's ahead. Even if she isn't, she felt Neil could fold with the flush on board as she had the Ace of spades.

However, things soon went sour for Jen when Neil announced that he'd finally hit his hand, chucking in a call and showing 7s 6s. Eek!

Ok lads the official stance on the structure is EVERY level is included apart from the 75 / 150 level.  So level 3 is now at 100/200 and we shall even have the debatable 500 / 1000. I thank you, snoops next on an exit, since we have to share a computer we shall try our best not to smack each other by the end of the night.  Status - calm.

Updater/poker player extra-ordinaire Jen Mason has just been boshed (new word there!) out of today's comp, raising it up pre-flop with A-T and being called in three places. The flop doesn't appear to be a bad one for Jen, Td 8d 8s, and she understandably bets out 1k. However, Seat 9 on the button seems to like it even more, and makes it 3k to play, more than enough to get the other players to fold... but not Jen, who after mulling it over for a while and, in her own words, concluding that he "wouldn't have Aces or Kings after smooth calling pre-flop" pushes all-in for her remaining 6k.

Unfortunately for the Hampsteadonian, her opponent was indeed being cute with Kings, and, after a few seconds dwell, did indeed make the call. Jen turned a flush draw, but to no avail as the river came a rag.

It was Ken who actually started the action, raising it up to 800 pre-flop and being called in two places, Peter 'The Bandit' Evans and Turk in the blind.

The Flop came 8c 9c 2d and everyone checked. The turn was the 3d, which led to Turk betting 3k, Ken raising to 7k, Bandit folding and Turk flat calling.

River time, and the dealer popped out a seemingly irrelevant Qs, but it was one in which seemed to trigger an all-in from Broad for 14k after the Mad Turk had checked.

Think tank time, but Turk eventually made a truly class call for all but 1.5k of his chips with Pocket Fives, catching his opponent and his Big Slick with fingers firmly clinging onto the side of the cookie jar.

Could anyone else have called that? I told Yucel I would have made the call easy peasy, and a few seconds quicker than him (cough).

Out, I think we mentioned it earlier. Steve Jelinek's followed him out the door too, getting it all-in with K-T (straight draw), but being picked off by Tony Cartwright's A-Q on a Queen high board. The cheeky monkey had checked his top pair on the flop.

Just before I compiled those chip counts, Mojid Khan doubled up with the bullets (bang bang!  ;snoopy'sguns;) against Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=44) Callinan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=44)'s somewhat pale in comparision K-2 suited. That initially paltry hand soon got Mojid shaking his head in fear though when the first card out was a 2, but a 6-8-9-4 rainbow board later and Mojid could finally exhale and scoop up those 25.3k in chips.

Mad Turk has been made even madder recently, his A-Q busted by Barry Neville's A-J, the Knave on the river causing the normally jester-like Turk to bang the table in disgust and mumble under his breath for a good few minutes after. Turk now has just over 10k.

With only 20 mins left of the night, people seam to be in double or bust mode.  Matt Tyler knocks out Frankie Knight and when I ask Matt what happened he says "he was bloody at it."  In reality Frankie was very low and raised with  9h  7h but Matt decided he would be pushed off with a reraise from his  4s 2h.  Frankie was not pushed off but went all in and didnt see the board but poor Frankie is on the motorway at the moment.

At the last minute, Golden Jules knocks out Barry Neville.  To prove that even Julian gets hands sometimes, he raised it up with AA but Big Bazza was unlucky to find AJ on the button and moved in.  No help for Barry tho and he a gonna.

It's a slightly belated 'stick a fork in me', but I thought I ought to offer a quick word of praise to Keith and all the other staff at the Broadway Casino who were a great help today under difficult circumstances. With Chili not owning a mobile data card and my new one censoring my access to gambling and 'dirty sites' (not that I wanted to get on them!), it was looking increasingly unlikely that an update would occur. However, the Broadway did whatever they could do get us connected to their internal wifi and, even though my Mac acted as a repellent to the 100 year old router, finally managed to sort Chili's laptop out at the very last minute to save the updates.

So, even though it was a tricky day on just one laptop instead of two, a big thank you to the Broadway, especially for the free baguettes they offered us half way through the night.
