The turn up and hope option seems a bit poor.   What time do registrations open at?   I can't believe it's not possible to implement a system where you book your seat in advance to the regional events.

You reckon there'll be 80 people queuing to get into a regional APAT event at midday?  I seriously doubt it.  That means that they will be accessible to all.  Might be a bit out of the way for some, but leave early to avoid disappointment.

Same as last season.  You want in, you get in.

I think you should start queueing up now, just to be on the safe side. Make sure you pack a big Thermos flask to last you through.

how has it always been a problem for something which has never existed before ?

The regional events are completely new. The idea of turn up and pay on the day is completely new for APAT as well.

Sorry that's not what i meant, the problem i referred to was the preregistering.
I think they are trying a new system that is designed for the locals, a good thing in my book as i always believe that the local recreational players should have preference above those who have the time and resources to travel the length and breadth of the country.
Of course any system has flaws but i think personally this is better as only a few will travel, lets just hope enough will not be put off by the chance of missing out and these get full houses.

APAT does have a hell of a lot more members now but I hope you're right.  I'm not overly keen to trek up to London only to miss out on getting in, it's a pain of a trip at the best of times.

Not long to go till I find out now, quite looking forward to it too.

Just had a look at this and to be honest it looks very confusing.

There are LOADS of online games...can anyone play in these or only the country you live in?

I presume you play a regional to qualify for a national but whats the score with the online games, can you just qualify through them or is there some kind of point system going on?

I could spend another hour or so going through it all again but being female I probably wont be any the wiser  :dontask:

Can someone explain please

From what I can gather, you can play all of them..

Sort but sweet answer, I may be wrong though.

online games are open to all

the online opens win you medals

there are also online quailfiers that will win you seats at national events

I'm equidistant from Brighton and London - anybody want to hazard a guess as to which will be the quieter?

I want to maximise my chances of a seat :)

to maximise your chance of a seat

do what i do take one with you

but if you mean a place in the comp

the place that is quieter will be easier to get a seat in the regional but they will have less seats in the nationals to play for

Just have to work out when to queue from?

Do you guys think i should be there very early?I'm serious( lol ) with only 80 players in and a 1430 kickoff?

Usually the casinos open at midday don't they (at the earliest?), and I can't imagine (m)any queuing from that early to get in to play a regional APAT event.

We'll publish opening details for the casinos for the regionals next week

If any problems crop up with the arrangements, we'll review after the first few events

For Brighton the nearest food establishments to the Grosvener (apart from restaurants) are:
Fish n Chips (seafront)
Wimpy (East Street) Not far from casino
Burger King (North Street) Go through lanes to North Street 10 mins
KFC (Western Road) Near Churchill Square 15 mins
McDonalds (Western Road) As per KFC but slightly further
There is also a McDonalds at Brighton Marina next to the Rendevous, or up London Roazd where there is also a grubbs Burger and various Chinese takeaways.
Hope this helps.

Good point boldie, Teacake there was 68 runners at the office poker tourney we played on Saturday. Granted they won't all be aware of APAT perhaps but i would imagine word will spread after the first event and these could well fill in the future IMO.

Am i right in saying that you dont have to play these regional heats and you can just buyin directly to the nationals when you announce the dates?

And with the online series do you have to play every event.?

No you don't but the MAJORITY of the National seats will be allocated by Regional/Online satellites. I'd expect around 25%+ of the the National seats to be direct buy-in.

Logical really, as you'd expect the Nationals to be played by the 'best' players.

Yeah I'm well aware of the great work Neils doing with these comps, Saturday was a great wee tourney but you've got to remember Neils been doing this for over a year & will tell you himself hes only just got the structure right & he wouldn't expect 80 runners.

The APAT regionals are basically satelites, its only geniune APATers who will play them & I don't see 80 people traveling to play a 20 quid satelite.

I'm not having a go at anyone I was only passing on my opinion to Happybhoy that I don't think he'll have to camp out to get a seat & I don't think the organisers think that either, I would imagine that they would be delighted with 40-50 runners.

Excuse my stupidness but am I right in saying if I don't qualify for a main live event at one of the regionals, I can enter the click fest and  buy in in the old fashioned way can't I?

yes Graham

In all of the regionals, APAT will "roundup" the available seats for the nationals..eg 25 runners, there will be three seats not 2 seats plus cash
