Title: Nothing sums up the British People better
Post by: TightEnd on October 29, 2007, 11:21:00 AM
It was a quiet Sunday night.

I was huddled on the sofa underneath a duvet nursing a particularly severe case of nearly terminal man flu.

Not terminal enough to prevent me channel-hopping of course.

I alighted on BBC1 and was able to gaze in wonder at a pair of legs on a lady called Penny Lancaster, Rod Stewart's Mrs.

Kelly Brook too. Even better I got to watch and she didn't get to speak much. Perfect combo!

It seems at last I had stumbled onto "Strictly Come Dancing" after several years of studious avoidance.

For the next half an hour I watched, entranced by the music and the sequins and oh the joy I felt at finally finding this Televisual nirvana.

Anyway, it came to the voting.

Despite watching the ludicrous, yet undeniably keen, sight of Kenny Logan and John Barnes doing a "samba" both Gabby Logan and Penny Lancaster found themselves in the  bottom two

How on earth did Gabby Logan end up getting voted off? She was a professional gymnast and a tidy dancer and yet one creature in particular had survived unscathed.

This woman is Kate Garraway. Apparently a GMTV presenter she "danced" so terribly I thought she must be taking the piss, indeed she cackled all the way through her performance to add to the effect of someone wanting to return to early morning TV.

Yet the British public chose to keep her in?

Why?

Some glory at perversity?

Some delight in sticking two fingers up at the very annoying judges? (I would gladly push Arelene Phillips off a high cliff but still....)

A stunning indictment of the stupidity of the voters?

Voters dealing in "popularity" not dancing "skill"? And of course GMTV is popular, tabloid, vacuous tripe..likely to appeal to many of the voters

Did Gabby try too hard? she seemed desperately keen.

What on earth has the world come to?

untill they make it vote off the person you think was worse the people with higher profiles and shows where they can ask daily for there viewers to vote will always do well

OK I admit I watched this. It was an utter shambles.

The organisers made a rod for their own back in allowing the voting to start commence days before the dances even took place.

"I would gladly push Arelene Phillips off a high cliff but still" .   I agree .   I have friends who watch it (honest  :D ) .  I like the dancer with the surname  Jordan ,  I don't know her first name

And when everyone's deeply suspicious of the dodgy practices in telephone polling, SCD has come up with a way to get more people to vote... it's genius - a crap programme - but utilising disgust at the results so far to anger people into voting....

It's mostly women that vote for this, and women hate strong, good-looking women and so won't vote for them. Women never seem to miss an opportunity to stab a sister in the back.

They look at Penny and Gabby and see every woman that ever stole a boyfriend off them.

So they vote for the clumsy Scot or the fat footballer instead.

Did Gabby try too hard? she seemed desperately keen.

They may also have picked up on this - Gabby was too keen about this. This programme is the entire reason she left ITV for the BBC. Last year she was asked to go on and said yes, but ITV said she wasn't allowed and that she could do their interminable Dancing on Ice instead. So she left.

I think they should vote them all off except for Kelly Brook and just have an hour of her moving about on her own every Saturday evening.

Enormously knowledgeable Andrew, a very pleasant surprise. I had you down for watching the History Channel or something.

Totally agree.  There's no harm in doing this and I think viewing figures would be through the roof.

Back in days gone by I'd be sat there watching SCD/X Factor/Big Brother with Betfair open on the laptop trading in running on the voting, so there was a perfectly respectable reason for watching.

Now I'm just perving over women in skimpy outfits - where did my life go?

Tis a shame :) But remember 99.9% of the British public that actually vote on these shows are total fukwits.

Gabby Logan hasn't any sort of fan base to vote for her & Kate Garraway has been plugging away on GMTV touting for votes. But then Gabby would have known that before she signed up for the show.

Go on, admit it, that's what you were thinking :)

That would be silly - they wouldn't be able to dance at all. They'd probably fall over on top of each other and struggle to be able to stand up again, instead frantically writhing and sliding all over each other trying to regain their footing.

That wouldn't do at all.

Errr I suppose not, maybe, not sure.

Back in a while, no calls please.
