Title: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on November 02, 2007, 09:48:41 PM What a week it's been. I don't know if it was the venue, lack of cameras, depleted numbers, or whatever, but for some reason I wasn't looking particularly forward to my latest venture to Dublin. However, I have undoubtedly been forced to make a total 180, the excitement value of the actual poker being off the charts. Whether it's a short-stack all-in, a big stack confrontation, or just the general table banter, it really has been a fun, fascinating and highly entertaining tournament to watch.
Unfortunately, today's final is lacking the hometown hero and general entertainer, Andy Black, his demise at the very end of Day 3 resulting in a familiar face sitting pretty at the top of the list, 19-year old Norwegian sensation Annette Obrestad leading the way with an impressive 788,000 in chips. However, we all know how quickly the tides can turn in poker, and unknown Dutch player Daan Ruiter isn't too far behind with 646,000 after a formidable performance late on in the day. Play is due to commence at 4pm, so please do join us for what should be another gripping, topsy-turvy session of poker festivity. Here is the final table line-up: 1. Thierry Van Den Berg -- 274,000 2. Daan Ruiter -- 646,000 3. Reuben Peters -- 176,000 4. Annette Obrestad -- 788,000 5. Anders Pettersson -- 166,000 6. Casper Hansen -- 360,000 7. Trond Erik Eidsvig -- 184,000 8. Michael Durrer -- 247,000 9. Reijo Manninen -- 480,000 More importantly, what are your predictions for the top 3? I'm going for a Ruiter, Pettersson, Obrestad one two three. Actually, it could have been worse - whilst Mike (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=670) Lacey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=670) of Pokernews rolled up at 9am in the morning, we were sensibly tucked up in bed by 3am after a few swift jars in the Dubliner watering hole down the road. A few familiar faces were there including Jesse May, Rory (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=730) Liffey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=730), Scott Gray, Padraig (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) Parkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=690) and co, even CardPlayer's Chief editor Brendan Murray made an appearance. What you can't fail to notice is how much our Irish counterparts love the 'craic', as they call it - every time I go into an Irish pub, everyone is boozing, shouting and generally having a great time, whilst back home you'd get the odd grumpy guy losing on the fruity and some 80 year old geezer mumbling to himself in a dark corner.
Back to the poker, and although none of the final table players have turned up yet (clearly a couple of extra winks in bed are a must), it is still hustle and bustle in here with the staging of a charity tournament combined with a mini-auction courtesy of the never-timid Marty (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978) Wilson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978)... mad as ever. In fact, with no television cameras, EPT host and crew, or raised stage, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there wasn't even a half a million Euro final even on today. It's kind of surreal. Kick off time is still 4pm, so watch this space and brace yourselves... Because image removed are probably the best in the world. We are still gonna try for the profile pictures of all players, but until then......

I'm sure no one really minds and they all look relatively happy. The biographies of the players are kindly given to us by Pokerstars.com. So in seat number 1 we have:
Seat 1: Thierry Van Den Berg, 35, from Holland – PokerStars qualifier – 274,000 Thierry, a former chef from Almere, is a regular PokerStars qualifier and won four EPT seats last year on PokerStars, as well as four WSOP seats. He turned his WSOP satellite success this year into a place on the final table. He also qualified for EPT Baden in October – and came 5 th for €132,900, and now he's on his 2nd EPT final table in less than a month. Thierry, who has a six-year-old daughter, turned pro a year ago. Daan turned pro at the start of EPT Season 4 and immediately got a good result - by coming 25th in Barcelona for €16,700. He is also studying for his Masters degree in real estate at Groningen University. Online he only ever plays cash games but he loves live tournaments – and the chance it gives him to get a read on his opponents. Today's final table appearance in Dublin is his best tournament success so far. Reuben "seaanchor" Peters comes from the US ski resort Telluride where he trades stocks for a living - , and plays $100 online rebuy tournaments for fun. He's a serial PokerStars qualifier. As well as winning numerous WSOP and PCA seats, he also qualified for the EPT3 Grand Final in Monte Carlo in April. In WSOP 2006, he cashed in 65 th place for $90,000. Reuben's wife Amy hasn't come to support him in Dublin as she was here just a few weeks ago with some friends – they came to The Police reunion concert in Croke Park. The "Annette_15" rumours began surfacing last year, about how a Norwegian teenager was spreading fear and panic on the internet with a super aggressive and highly lucrative style of play. Reputations were destroyed and egos crushed. For many, the first public sighting of this internet phenomenon was at the EPT Grand Final last March, but her early forays into live play were unspectacular. Clearly, she was waiting for the top prize in Europe, which she landed when picking up the WSOP Europe title and a cheque for £1m. Just after he turned 18, Anders qualified for the Swedish Pokermiljonen televised tournament in Tallin, where he found himself on the same table as Mats (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1225) Rahmn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1225) and Peter Eicchardt. He plays a lot online and has been to a few EPTs - but reaching the EPT Dublin final table is his best result so far. PokerStars qualifier – 360,000
This poker pro from Copenhagen bought in direct to the EPTs in London and Barcelona - without getting any return on his investment. Now he's in Dublin after winning a satellite on PokerStars – and has finally secured the cash position his talent deserves. Of his table image, Casper says: "I like to play relaxed, a bit sloppy, like I can barely count to ten." Are his final table opponents going to fall for that old line? Trond, who comes from the tiny village of Ǻlesund on the west coast of Norway, is making his 2 nd EPT final table in less than three months after winning €250,800 for 5th place in Barcelona at the start of EPT Season 4. Trond turned professional 18 months ago and played at EPT Dortmund last season but got knocked out early in the second day. Since his Barcelona success, Trond has hit a hot streak in the cash games in the last couple of months. After studying business and IT at college, Michael has since devoted himself to a lifetime of gambling. Billiards, sports betting, cards – Michael has done the lot. But a few years ago he broke his leg and, while convalescing, decided to take up poker. He said: "It was only after losing around €20,000 that I decided I'd better start playing properly. I bought books, started studying and now I'm getting results." Michael came 12 th at EPT Baden last month for €30,000 but his biggest win to date was €60,000in Enschede in Holland last May. Reijo first took up poker in the early 1970s. He says he then had to give it up again in the 1980s "because no one else was playing" but is now enjoying a comeback with success in a wide variation of games including final tabling in the Sökö (a kind of Scandinavian 5-card stud) championships. He's now enjoying a two-month break from work and is focusing on playing online SNGs on PokerStars. He said: "I don't normally have time to play live tournaments but I'm enjoying EPT Dublin!" We started today with 4,000 / 8,000 blinds and 1,000 ante but only for 11 mins of that level. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on November 03, 2007, 04:51:24 PM Even though there are no TV cameras to slow down the action, the pace is somewhat lack-lustre nonetheless, the nine remaining players understandably taking their time on every decision in order to ensure that they aren't ruing a missed opportunity, misplaced bet or incorrect read on the return flight home.
In terms of the action, it's been very much raise, fold, fold, fold thus far, but there have been a couple of pots of note. After Casper and Michael took the blinds, Michael had another stab on the very next hand with a 28k bet, but perhaps chose the wrong big blind to ambush as Annette Obrestad plunged in what looked like a 72k (in total) re-raise. Calculated as ever, Durrer sized up his opponent, and his cards, before succoring to the pressure applied by the expressionless Norwegian and throwing his hand into the muck. Meanwhile, Trond Erik Eidsvig was left to chuckle after his pre-flop raise to 23k was minimum raised by Fin Reijo Manninen who then announced all-in on a 7s Kh Kd Flop. Trond's chip stack takes another dent as he was virtually obliged to call the re-raise, so we'll keep an eye on the young Scandie as he goes in search of a much needed double through. You may have all the weapons in your arsenal, a worldwide reputation as an up and coming superstar, and one of the best online records in the world, but sometimes, if you get the luck at the right time, the hands just play themselves. That's exactly what happened between Annette and Casper. As Annette raised pre-flop with the Bullets, no one could fault Casper Hansen for pushing over the top with those lovely Ladies, and that's precisely what he did. Of course, Annette called quicker than a jet-propelled whippet, leaving Casper praying in vain for a third Queen that failed to arrive on an 8-2-3-6-2 board. Annette is certainly proving herself as one of the best players in the world this year, both live and online, but to win a tournament of this magnitude, you need both luck and skill, and at the moment, she has the perfect combination. Is there a more dangerous player on the circuit at the moment? The cards are turned over and we all hear, Ad 4c for Daan Ruiter 8h 3h for Thierry Van Den Berg. So a big bluff gone very wrong at a bad time for Thierry. Holy Moly, they're dropping like the balls of a blind juggler here in Dublin, the latest victim of the felt being Pokerstars qualifier and German inhabitant Michael Durrer. As an appendix of sorts, I caught up with Brandon Schaeffer on the sidelines to pick his brains about Durrer's virtual all-in call with the A-Q and ask him what he thought of the move. Personally, I was surprised that Durrer made this call when Trond had pushed all-in for well over the pot raise. However, Brandon Schaefer was less critical (he's certainly in a better position to comment than I am), adding that he thought Trond could be making that move with any Ace and therefore be in a position to be dominated by a hand like A-Q. In truth, it was a simple affair, and perhaps a slight cooler: Reijo Manninen = A-A Daan Ruiter = A-K Board = 5-6-J-4-K As evident in the aforementioned chip counts, Ruiter had his man covered, so is still alive, but only just. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on November 03, 2007, 06:22:11 PM Unless we see Aces run into Kings, Tens into Ace-King, and so on, a flurry of early final table exits is usually followed by a slow period whilst we wait for the blinds to catch up with the increasing stack sizes. After watching the last 15 hands, that's exactly what has happened here, the blinds in relation to the stack sizes being relatively small and allowing for a few flops to be played.
Although you'd expect Annette to be raising and re-raising every hand, her ruthless aggression is nowhere to be seen, instead adopting a more patient strategy and waiting for her opponents to hang themselves. However, this doesn't mean that she isn't playing any hands, just not over-committing herself unnecessarily. Her timing seems to be spot on at the moment, because when she does make a move, it seems to be the correct one, and is therefore taking down a lot of easy pots uncontested. Apart from Trond raising Annette all-in pre-flop on one hand, it's mostly been a case of players taking it in turns to take the blinds, or stepping aside as Annette bets a three-way pot on the flop. Out of the three, I would say that Reuben has been the quietest, but this has clearly served him well thus far as come bubble time, he was one of the shortest stacks, and he has been near the foot of the list for most of the tournament. On a Flop of 8s 5h 3d, Reijo check-raises Annette's 43k bet to 110k, only for Annette to calmly slide in an extra 133k more to make it 243k in total. Lifting his cards a millimetre off the felt as if seriously contemplating a fold, Reijo has second thoughts and plops a sole chip on his cards to mull over his decision. After rubbing his forehead as if tortured by the situation at hand, Reijo confidently makes the call in a manner that suggests he's going nowhere for the rest of the hand. Before the dealer has barely laid down the 3c Turn, Reijo's finger swiftly taps the felt leaving the decision with a much more pensive, and intense for that matter, Annete Obrestad. Seemingly deep in concentration and as physically unmoved as always, Annette checks behind. A 4d Turn, and once again, Reijo quickly checks, almost as if enticing Annette to bet the River. Another pause from Annette and, as expected, out pop the 10k pink chips, this time 30 of them being slid across the line to make a River bet of 300k. Convinced he's ahead, Reijo rechecks his hand, glances down at his chips before making what appeared to be a relatively assured call. Unfortunately for the Fin, Annette was fibbing on the Flop, but not on the River, her revealing of a cheeky Aspades 2c for a nasty straight reflecting a some what fortunate River. Reijo, meanwhile, rues his misfortune, or perhaps the lack of another raise on the Flop or bet on the Turn, and shows his Qs 8s for a flopped top pair. A crucial hand goes to the young Norwegian whiz as the veteran looks down at his depleted 400k stack with the chagrin of a discarded puppy. After a surprisingly quiet period, it all kicks off with Annette in the small blind and Reijo in the big. I didn't quite see how much Annette raised it by, but it looked to be around the 40k mark. With his confidence sky high after a much needed double up, Reuben Peters finds himself on the receiving end of a 130k River bet on a 6s 3c 9s Kd Qd board after calling a 43k pre-flop raise, checking the Flop, and betting 80k on the Turn. Out of position, Reuben can only rest his head in his hands and contemplate what is a seemingly tough decision for a decent chunk of his remaining chips. Usually unnerved, the laid-back American removes his ipod to show that he means business and, after glancing up at the skies momentarily, announces call. Annette mucks leaving the Reuben to proudly show Ks 4s for another morale boosting pot. From what I understand, Reuben is now hovering around the 1 million mark and back in business. Rueben raises it to 55k from the small blind and Annette reraised to 160,000 total. Rueben made the call. The flop came: Jc 9d Kc Annette, again slowly and methodically places a tower of 420,000 chips in front of her. Reuben insta goes "all in", Annette insta mucks. With his hands shaking amid the adrenalin pumping heads up encounter, Reuben Peters raises it up to 52k pre-flop only to be re-raised to 190k by Annette. Perplexed by what action to take next, Reuben opts for a smooth call and the two remaining players see a Tc 6h 3d Flop. With the undeniable confidence that she has displayed throughout the entire week, Annette comes out firing with a bet of 230k and adopts her now unmissable rigid posture, hands firmly resting on the felt, menacing stare lying behind her black shades and stoic, unmovable expression plastered across her petite face. In stark contrast, Reuben's face contorts under the spot-light, his bamboozled, heart-on-sleeve expression reflecting what is a crucial decision at a vital time in the tournament. His hands still vibrating under the pressure of the moment, Reuben whisks out three columns of 200k (600k in total) from his stack before brushing aside any standard raise in favour of a quick and easy all-in, a push that evidently pains Annette as she breaks her poker face and exhales deeply in pensive contemplation. Sitting back in her chair before reaching out to sip on her bottle of water, Annette watches her opponent intently as Reuben remains calm and collected under the deftly stare. Although Reuben's foot goes up and down like a piston, the rest of his body remains relatively cool under the pressure except for the odd facial twitch and the faint blowing out of cheeks. Meekly and under her breath, Annette declares a call. There is confusion as to whether she is asking for a count or calling the all-in, but the dealer confirms the latter as the crowd pile in to swarm the table. On their backs and it is Reuben who is first to show, his Aspades Th comfortably ahead of Annette's inferior Pocket Sevens, 7h 7s. A 4c Turn and 3h River and it is all over. There is a moment of indecision as they count out their respective stacks, but in the end, Reuben has his target covered after a timely double up and a number of important stack-increasing pots. Annette appears devestated as she slips to one side. Reuben's wide grin tells it all as he soaks up the praise of the onlooker's applause as the 2007 Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT Champion. I am stuck at Dublin Airport, waiting for a delayed Compo, who's with Tim, the Sound/Cameraman Chappie. Their delayed flight is now due in at 18.25. Can you have a word with Annette please - tell her to SLOW DOWN. We don't want it to end before our Cameraman arrives....;) Oh, & I LOVED the Collage! See you guys later. Cheers Tikay, ok no problem. I will go now and prod Annette in the ribs, hopefully inducing some winding but no lasting damage ;) Did Tikay make it? Reputations were destroyed and egos crushed. For many, the first public sighting of this internet phenomenon was at the EPT Grand Final last March, but her early forays into live play were unspectacular. Clearly, she was waiting for the top prize in Europe, which she landed when picking up the WSOP Europe title and a cheque for £1m. Really thought Annette would take this down too, but obv wasn't to be. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: Chili on November 03, 2007, 09:22:03 PM Safe to say it was a quick final here in Dublin. The final lasted a total of 4 hours 10 mins with Annette just steadily increasing her stack size hand after hand and never looking in trouble. Reuben on the other hand started the final only 10,000 chips off 9th place and started his heads up battle with Annette outchipping him 4.5 to 1.
He bided his time and played a very patient and solid game so a heart felt congratulations to the Stock Trader from Telluride, Colorado, also known online on Pokerstars.com as "seaanchor." Still I'm sure to Annette she will feel like this was one that she lost, but you can't get away from her talent or the buzz that she creates when she goes deep in yet another tournament. I'd like to say her time will come, but its already here and she's not just knocked on the door but booted it in. He recently arrived in the press room with Dave Compton looking rather dandy with his bright pink tie on. Don't worry, he survives Dublin airport and is straight in the thick of it doing some interviews as we speak. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on November 03, 2007, 09:28:46 PM As the organisers pack away their gear and the Main Event atmosphere fizzles, it's business as usual as everyone continues with their cash game or STT as if the final table never took place. The buzz diminishes and we are left wondering who will be the next Reuben Peters come Prague time.
For us updaters, it's time to bring to a close this week's updates which we hope you have enjoyed as much as we have. We'd also like to take the time to say a few thanks. First and foremost, we can't forget the Pokerstars brand, and in particular media coordinator Mad Harper who, as is always the case, has catered to our every need when we have voiced a moan, complaint or gripe. In a corporate engulfing industry in which events such as the WPT and WSOP and slowly but surely blocking out the media organisations that have done so much to promote their brands, it's reassuring to feel that Pokerstars do what they can to aid us in our reporting of the tournament. Similarly, the RDS have been equally accommodating to us bloggers, providing us with full access to the tables, a free buffet and nice, spacious venue from which to undertake our updates. The location may not be to everyone's taste, and at times there was a certain lack of buzz and atmosphere, but overall I feel that everything went to plan. Finally, a big thumbs up to not only the Dublin EPT Champion Reuben Peters, but also 19-year old sensation Annette (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=902) Obrestad (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=902), who proved once again that her capabilities go much further than her computer keyboard and mouse at home. I'm sure we'll see both add to these achievements in the very near future. Toodle pip, peeps! ;stickaforkinme; Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: JaffaCake on November 03, 2007, 09:35:09 PM wow shocked to see annette 'only' second, congrat to seeanchor tho fine performance. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: Chili on November 03, 2007, 11:00:00 PM Just as I was about to pack, I recieved the official press release from Pokerstars. I thought it would be great to post it here as a round up of events and Final Table Standings.
Courtesy of Mad Harper at Pokerstars; REUBEN PETERS BETTERS 'ANNETTE_15' TO TAKE EPT DUBLIN TITLE Date: Saturday, November 3, 2007 Venue: Royal Dublin Society, Dublin, Republic of Ireland Event: PokerStars.com EPT Dublin, €8,000 No Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament PokerStars qualifier Reuben Peters from Colorado, USA, won the PokerStars European Poker Tour Dublin title - and more than €500,000 - after beating Annette Obrestad, the teenage phenomenon from Norway. Peters successfully overturned a massive chip lead against Obrestad, 19, who won £1m at the World Series of Poker Europe in September. Looking stunned after his victory, Peters said: "I've had horrible cards for a day and a half. I was the short stack at the final table and at one point I was down to five big blinds. "I've played against Annette a lot online so I know the way she plays but I've never met her face-to-face. She is an excellent player, and I never expected to win." The 45-year-old stock trader - "seaanchor" online - is a regular PokerStars qualifier. He has won several seats at the PCA and the WSOP (where he cashed in the main event last year). Peters' wife Amy is back home looking after the couple's two children - Charlie, 12, and Martha-Jane,14. Annette Obrestad dominated the final table in Dublin and had a five to one chip lead over Peters once they were down to two players. She was clearly dissatisfied at the way she allowed Peters to recover, and the €297,800 prize money for second place was little consolation: "I'm not happy. I thought I played pretty well but I made a couple of mistakes heads up." Known online as "Annette_15", Obrestad became the youngest ever WSOP bracelet winner in September. She is also one of only five women to make an EPT final table: Vicky Coren (who won EPT London last season), Anina Gundesen, Xuyen Pham and Team PokerStars Pros Katja Thater and Isabelle Mercier. A record six PokerStars qualifiers made the final table of this year's EPT Dublin - and walked away with over €943,000 ($1.3m). Peters also wins a €10,000 seat to the EPT Grand Final, which takes place in Monte Carlo in April 2008. "Annette has been the talk of the town in Dublin, and she personally bust out six of the top ten players, including local favourite Andy Black. Everybody expected her to take Peters apart in the final heads up, but the American proved a tough nut to crack. Given the high quality of the field in Dublin, he deserves the title," said Conrad Brunner, PokerStars' Head of Communications, EMEA. A total of 221 players from 26 countries competed in Dublin creating a prize pool of €1,701,700. They included 60 players who won their seats online with PokerStars, as well as Team PokerStars Pros Noah Boeken, Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri, Katja Thater and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. Both Noah and Luca cashed - Noah came 14th for €20,420 in his sixth EPT cash. Luca came 24th for €10,210 in his 7th cash. The next EPT is in Prague from December 5-10, 2007 followed by the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January. Satellites for Prague, the PCA and the EPT Grand Final are running on PokerStars now. Satellites for EPT Dortmund (January 29 - February 2) start on December 3, 2007 Final table/payouts: in euro's 1 Reuben Peters USA 532620 2 Annette Obrestad Norway 297800 3 Reijo Manninen Finland 178680 4 Trond Eidsvig Norway 127630 5 Daan Ruiter Holland 105510 6 Anders Pettersson Sweden 83380 7 Michael Durrer Germany 66370 8 Thierry Van den Berg Holland 47650 9 Casper Hansen Denmark 30630 Title: Re: Pokerstars.com Dublin EPT: Final Table - Interactive Post by: taximan007 on November 03, 2007, 11:24:08 PM Top Quality:
