Title: Facebook Post by: RED-DOG on November 13, 2007, 11:55:31 AM I haven't signed up, I probably never will. I tend to shy away from, or even resent doing something just because everyone else is doing it.
Have you joined? Please answer yes or no and say why. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: TightEnd on November 13, 2007, 11:57:48 AM Yes
I was a late-ish adopter, and have grown to like it particularly finding out how bad I am at scrabble. Visit maybe once or twice a day Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Bongo on November 13, 2007, 11:59:15 AM Yes, wish there was a way to leave properly though.
Sign in a couple of times a week to see what pointless rubbish people want me to do, and spend 10 minutes clicking ignore. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: AndrewT on November 13, 2007, 11:59:48 AM I have because it was a very easy way of keeping up to date with friends I may not ordinarily see. I'm far too lazy to spontaneously write an email or pick up the phone but typing in a chat box which is already open I can just about manage.
But I don't have any truck with all the application stuff. No, I don't want to be a zombie, or 'see if we're alike' or any of that other crap, so those of you who keep inviting me for all this stuff please stop. The only good one was Scrabulous, which was a million times better than all the others, and that lasted a week before I got bored. And another thing - status updates. Either put some effort to write something vaguely entertaining or only use it to tell me what you're doing if it could possibly be of any interest. 'X is tired', 'X is off to work' or 'X is eating dinner' is a complete waste of everyone's time. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Graham C on November 13, 2007, 12:09:49 PM Use it mainly to play scrabble and chess with some friends in the US
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: RED-DOG on November 13, 2007, 12:16:45 PM As well as telling me what they use it for now, can peeps also tell me why they signed up in the first place please.
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: booder on November 13, 2007, 12:17:26 PM yes
i signed up for a freeroll Title: Re: Facebook Post by: kinboshi on November 13, 2007, 12:18:16 PM Signed up to see if I could get in touch with people I hadn't seen since school or uni.

I am currently rubbish at chess, but i hope to improve slightly Title: Re: Facebook Post by: TheChipPrince on November 13, 2007, 12:23:49 PM YES
To find people i wouldnt necessary ever phone or see otherwise, but would still class as a 'friend', and generally to have a good nosey on ppl's lives... It's also a good way of organising events without having to email/phone/post invites and for sharing photos. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: ACE2M on November 13, 2007, 12:28:14 PM sharing photos is it's best feature for me.
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: The_duke on November 13, 2007, 12:33:10 PM I did register a while ago, once. Don't know why but I think someone asked me to. Never been back, never had the inclination since and I doubt if i will.
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Graham C on November 13, 2007, 12:38:10 PM Someone signed me up then emailed me the link, so I accepted it. Sadly they did it with a typo in my name which I can't seem to get corrected.
The photos thing is pretty good, but I'm yet to upload any. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Laxie on November 13, 2007, 01:59:00 PM I was a late arrival to Facebook as well. Had been asked in the past to sign up, but never really saw the point. Wasn't until reading about it on Blonde that I decided to check it out. Not a big fan of all the silly apps they have, but do enjoy scrabble and keeping in touch with friends. It's also a nice break from Poker when I'm not feeling confident about my game.
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: matt674 on November 13, 2007, 02:03:46 PM i signed up when someone asked me to - i made sure though i didnt leave any personal info on there.
to be honest i only use the site when i'm poking someone............ ;whistle; Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Robert HM on November 13, 2007, 02:05:36 PM I registered after it was talked about on blonde. I wanted to play scrabble. I don't particularly like it and can live without it. However people I haven't seen for years have contacted me, which was a pleasant surprise.
Title: Re: Facebook Post by: HOLDorFOLD on November 13, 2007, 02:08:08 PM Signed up only to be able to play scrabble with blonde poker addicts.
Have ended up 'poking' old work and school friends though. Hardly use it, maybe log in once every 3 days to see if a scrabble move has been made. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Chili on November 13, 2007, 02:28:21 PM A late facebook bloomer too, in fact after Tikay was forced to join because someone set up the "Tony Kendall Appreciation Society," I regularly took the piss and said how pointless and sad facebook is (without actually seeing it btw).
Anyway I joined about a month after that purely because I bowed to popularity pressure. Very glad I was too, because I have found old school & college mates and other people have found me who live across the other side of the globe, so it is great for that. There is nothing instant about it (unlike MSN) so you can reply and use it at your own leisure. You can also add as much or as little information about yourself as you want. Actually it was on the news last night about the posibility of people using facebook to get info on people to be able to take over their identity and defraud them. Personally I think people that put on EVERY bit of info about themselves are asking for trouble. Why the hell would you put your mobile number on there?? I dont even put my year of birth for that reason (honest lol.) Just keep it simple and use the personal email option to hide stuff. The photo bit is great and also agree the pointless applications that people add drive me nuts, but if that's there bag then carry on and I will carry on ignoring...... Title: Re: Facebook Post by: TheChipPrince on November 13, 2007, 02:31:47 PM Personally I think people that put on EVERY bit of info about themselves are asking for trouble. I agree with you to a certain extent Chilli, but on facebook only ppl you accept as a friend can see your profile, unlike Bebo/MySpace etc... Title: Re: Facebook Post by: lucky_scrote on November 13, 2007, 02:32:25 PM I joined facebook because a lot of my old school friends did, ive met up with quite a few of them and had a good time.
Its a great laugh and a fastish way to communicate with peeps. You should sign up RED, you may be suprised :P Title: Re: Facebook Post by: RED-DOG on November 13, 2007, 02:40:46 PM I joined facebook because a lot of my old school friends did, ive met up with quite a few of them and had a good time. Lol, most my childhood friends didn't go to school and can't read or write. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: TightEnd on November 13, 2007, 02:52:25 PM I've re-met people on there as diverse as primary school friends, senior school friends and my secretary from 1993!
leaving aside all the applications (poking etc, I don't really "get") that is the most interesting part of facebook I feel. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: kinboshi on November 13, 2007, 02:53:52 PM Tikay reads about his childhood friends in the old testament.

I agree with you to a certain extent Chilli, but on facebook only ppl you accept as a friend can see your profile, unlike Bebo/MySpace etc... A lot of people just mindlessly 'collect' friends on MySpace by just accepting every friend request, just as happened on MySpace The ones who do that and leave personal info on their profiles are the ones most at risk - and yes people really are that stupid. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: AndrewT on November 13, 2007, 02:57:37 PM Personally I think people that put on EVERY bit of info about themselves are asking for trouble. Actually you can see profiles if they are in the same network as yourself (university, town etc). If your network is London (like mine), you can actually go snooping around an awful lot of people's profiles... Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Claw75 on November 13, 2007, 02:59:11 PM you can choose the privacy settings for your profile to either be available to view to everyone, to everyone in your network, or to friends only. If anyone doesn't have their profile set to 'friends only' I'd advise them to sort it out!
Another good thing about facebook - you can keep in touch with Flushy on there! Title: Re: Facebook Post by: kinboshi on November 13, 2007, 03:02:11 PM Who?

A security company went and did this and collected loads of info - certainly enough to clone someone's identity. Their name was an anagram of "ID Fraudster" as well. Another worry would be how secure your friends accounts are, it's all well and good only letting your friends see your details, but if their account gets compromised then your details are too. Additionally it seems that facebook staff are allowed to browse profiles (+other hidden info) at will. Title: Re: Facebook Post by: Nakor on November 13, 2007, 06:46:10 PM No
Whats facebook? Who's Flushy? Can't spell for scrabble. Can't play chess without my lucky clock. Am I missing anything else?
