Title: New Year Poker Resolutions...
Post by: NumptyITB on December 30, 2007, 11:03:19 PM
Whether its to never play again, or to start recording your poker profits properly, everyone must surely have a poker new years resolution?

Care to share?

1. DO NOT TILT!!
2. Try and win an APAT medal.  Been close a couple of times, but not succeeded so far.
3. Get back to Vegas.
4. Play a live tournament with entry fee of £100 or more.  This was my only goal for last year that i failed to achieve.
5. Continue to try and improve my game.  Since coming back from Vegas last year, my results have improved, though it could be a temporary upswing.

Probably to improve my positional play.  Far too often these days, i'm looking at a marginal hand, realising i'm out of position and carrying on regardless.

Not to blow my hard earned profits from STT's by attempting to play cash.

To attend at least 50% of 2008's blondebashes.

To get it a bit quieter this time.

To not squander short term winnings on frivolous items or overly luxurious lifestyle.

To keep poker as a secondary income and not quit my job. (At least not till September)

My own personal resolution is to start setting myself some targets, so i am able to actually put my winings to good use, rather than spunk it off somewhere else.

monthly targets to reach a certain amount, playing small stakes sit and go's, and one big multi a month. Any winnings being withdrawn at end of month, and reset to a certain amount for next month..

Hopefully this will help, as any profit i usualy make at the mo i seem to leek elsewhere!!

DAMN CASINO GAMES ON SITES!! lol

amputation's the only thing that springs to mind.

or go to the original weigh-in wearing really big, heavy clothes. go to the later weigh-in in a bikini as it'll be summerish in 14 weeks

I can remember reading a grub smith column wher he bought a treadmill and fixed his laptop at the end of it so he could run and play poker at the same time. This could obv be done with a exercise bike, etc.

The cheaper version of this is to download some poker e-books from i-tunes or similar and go for a jog.

As for how to lose the weight, no idea!

Safe weight lose is 2 pounds per week. You've got to lose double that. If I were you I would stop eating carbs apart from tons of fruit and veg. get a fitday.com account and work out how many calories a day you can eat, eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, read all the berardi nutrition articles, read up on how boxers cut weight for a fight, you can lose a lot just from getting rid of water weight. do shit loads of exercise. no alcohol LDO.

the 2p2 health and fitness forum has threads on this, also a thread in the EDF by some guy who lost 200 pounds is worth a read.

You are possibly putting your health at risk doing this.

Good Luck.

Unless you are massively overweight I would have thought losing 4 stone in 14 weeks may be detrimental to your health. But thats just my thoughts.

Take down a decent sized/decent buy-in tourney (Like the stanley national championships thingiemejig ..maybe even a GUKPT) and get myself some seats to the WSOP on stars so that I can use the cash to go over and play some cash games during the WSOP

Really start working on my PLO cash again..I'm ok now but could do with some improvements to make it a bit more profitable.

Learning a new game properly..probably 7-stud or superstud

Primary - to win over 5 figures this year (2008) playing low level cash.

Secondary - to play live more regularly, probably the £75 freezout on Fridays at DTD my regular haunt

No advice but if anyone wants to make a similar wager with yours truly, I really want to make a stupid bet that I can lose a couple of stone. Poker added this weight to my midriff, its only fitting gambling can take it away.

Anyone wanna lay me odds? If I lose I can pay you in cash or pies.

weight lose prop bets over the internet are like playing 3 card monte in oxford street, you can probably lose a stone in 2 days if you stuff yourself full of water for the weigh in and then sweat it all out. you can lose 2 pounds having a dump. you could have 4 or 5 pounds of food in your intestines, there are other ways of "cheating" as well. Not saying that you would cheat of course just that it's a silly thing to bet on with people you don't know extremely well

To not lose my Stars roll again and to play better poker - thinking about things more, get some ICM/PokerStove stuff into my head (whatever that maybe) Be more brave defending my big blind, be more aggressive in my game and to see the back of 2007!

Come on Tank, 4000 sng's in 3 months for old times sake, you know you want too ;)

weight loss is pretty easy I can go from 16 and a half stone down to 12st in prob about 14-16 weeks and have done a couple of times for bodybuilding shows. You really just need to cut carbs, increase water and then keep your metabolism ramped up high! I would suggest fast paced walking in the morning on just a protein shake, two/three small meals including carbs during the day, train again and then a couple of protein and veg based meals in the evening. Spend the first two weeks gradually reducing carbs. if the weight loss slows, change the cardio.

Supps to use protein powder (wheyfx by smart-tec, company I launched about two yrs ago tastes good), udo's oil (good fats helps keep fat shifting), you could use a fatburner like inferno by interactive but use this for last six weeks to keep metabolism high when body is close on starvation mode!

It doesn't do you any harm IMO, as I say I have done it sub 5% bodyfat a few times, currently 16st, but too much poker will do that to you!

lol  GL

Review of goals for 2008

1. DO NOT TILT!!  COULD DO BETTER!  Fine live, but online still needs improving
2. Try and win an APAT medal.  Been close a couple of times, but not succeeded so far.   SUCCESS.  Winning APAT Ireland was more than i could have hoped for.  4 medals in total.
3. Get back to Vegas.  SUCCESS  Nice cash game profit whilst there as well.
4. Play a live tournament with entry fee of £100 or more.  This was my only goal for last year that i failed to achieve. SUCCESS Played Stanleys Nottingham £500 and GUKPT Luton. Results in these need improvement though.
5. Continue to try and improve my game.  Since coming back from Vegas last year, my results have improved, though it could be a temporary upswing. SUCCESS. Best year to date so far. Live game results are still good, and online cash is ok. MUST play more live tournaments.  DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) £300 is a must for this year.

Overall, 2008 went really well.

Well 2008 was a real mixed bag for me live was on the whole a huge success, won the £500NL at the vic no chop ditto the Norweigian PLO. Made first GUKPT ME final in Thanet although disappointing 5th. Also had a 10th in WSOP in Vegas and made first WSOP final table in the PLO in London. Vegas poker wise other than that was 6 weeks of hell and torture which equalled first losing and cut short trip in 3 years. 25 other MTTs and single tables without a cash adds up and after having done $14k trying to win a $10k ME seat and bubbling the final live multi the night before i couldn't take any more.  I somehow owned blackjack for most of the trip which led to comped suites and poker almost becoming secondary but it's a game i'd quite happily never play again. I also crushed 2/5 and 5/10 PLO around town but dumped off those winnings and the BJ ones in the 25/50/100 game in the Rio to the Texan Tag Team which was nice.
Finished the year European No.1 in PLO and i think No.5 overall.
Online was mostly an unmitigated disaster. Crushed the online PLO MTTs but my OPR shows my first ever losing year in NLH MTTs on Stars, only -1% ROI but in terms of effort and time FML. Did my brains chasing Supernova on Stars that was fun might do it again, mostly $25/$50 PLO spins gone wrong, plus side was i played a hell of a lot of HU NL and PLO sit and go's and turned my sharkscope around from a massive fail to a slightly smaller fail . Had one huge spinup on Full  (http://blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/12206)Tilt (http://blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/12206) whilst in the well on here some of which made it's way to Vegas with me but apart from that i'd be a rich man if i got back 10% of the money i lost on there over the course of the year.
Started with Bad Beat in September mostly for PLO cash and had a massively successful first 6 weeks winning $100k then went on a sick downer that saw me do $75k back in 3 weeks, last couple of weeks of the year saw a return to minor winning ways.

Goals for 2009

Make another WSOP final table in any game
Win a PLO bracelet
Win a GUKPT ME
Play some more EPT's and make an FT
Start winning or relearn how to win online again overall or quit and get a job
Return to building from small $ online and not reinvesting large chunks of offline winnings particularly on FT
Sattellite into every major event i can online
F**k the European rankings
Start exercising again and lose about 2 stone
Not do any more Cardplayer interviews for Barry (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1143) Carter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1143) cos it was an almighty bokk!
