Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: snoopy1239 on December 31, 2007, 01:25:41 AM Why ? It just seems like a load of bollocks to me. If you don't have that sudden urge to go out and celebrate the changing of a digit on the calendar you are accused of being a mardy mustard, yet when people get to their destination, they complain about the crowded bars, lack of transport, price of admission, inability to reach the bar, etc, etc. It's just boring, overpriced nonsense. Why do we need an excuse to go out on the piss with our mates, and why would we pick the day when any every other mug in the country is doing it? Woohoo, let's celebrate it being 2008, what a monumental occasion. In fact, let me pay for that privilege of experiencing the turn of the year in all its wonderful glory. Feck that, can I celebrate it next week when it's free? Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Ironside on December 31, 2007, 01:33:40 AM or get a carry out turn the light on and open the door

Feck that, can I celebrate it next week when it's free? I agree with you, just wondered why you had a dislike for it. The whole festive period is now just far too commercialised for me - too many people/companies out to make money ( and sometimes a hell of a lot of money ) Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? I don't see the point NYE myself, it's just another night really! Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Ironside on December 31, 2007, 01:39:03 AM i used to love NY
i would work over christmas so i could get NY off but everyones married now and i dont like getting pulled up and down steps into peoples houses by people that are pissed so a quiet night in for me if anyone comes knocking at the door they will get the offer of a wee dram Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: lucky_scrote on December 31, 2007, 01:40:52 AM I'm not questioning why It's celebrated, I'm just getting very drunk. Also new years day im going to the races which i've never done before because i don't gamble (except play poker).

Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Newmanseye on December 31, 2007, 01:59:16 AM Modern new year is a bit of a joke tbh, I have fond memories of when i was young and at my Gran's house, The kitchen and sitting room tables would be laden with snacks and fingerfood, the front door would be wide and welcoming to the world, and the atmosphere was phenomenal.
These days however its seems to have moved away from that once a year even where family, friends and neighbours come together to celebrate the passing of a year ( bad or good), Unfortunately community spirit and family bonds are not what they used to be, and its a sad sad decline in my opinion. These days it seems to be a choice between overpriced trendy bar / club or street party and freeze your nuts off and get overcharged for small watered down measures. Quiet night in, wee dram at the bells, kiss to the wife and i might get lucky when the kids are asleep, I have to say it beats the alternative. Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: snoopy1239 on December 31, 2007, 02:23:47 AM My ideal New Year this time round involves:
junk food beer sofa Heroes DVD boxset No ticket necessary. Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Bainn on December 31, 2007, 02:30:27 AM Never been a huge fan myself, only decent ones I have had have been with Harmony.
Let's all play the Blonde NYE comp and abuse Ironfish, maybe he will last longer this time ? Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: raab11 on December 31, 2007, 02:36:14 AM the thing that annoys me is those out once a year twats that make pubs too busy then get too drunk too quickly and ruin house parties. tbh tho most weekend nights are like new year anyway just without the aforementioned twats. roll on next saturday when all the part timers are back where they belong. have a good one!! Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: madasahatstand on December 31, 2007, 06:27:21 AM New year is fine as long as you got something to look forward to and no loss to be reminded of. Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: tikay on December 31, 2007, 06:59:54 AM I don't "hate it", but I don't celebrate it either, I'm the same with chrimbo. I'm a solitary soul, quite happy with my own company, & I especially dislike the company of loud boorish drunks, so I generally stay at home alone on NYE, & it's just a regular night for me. I'm a bit weird, I pretty much think every day of the year is Christmas Day - except Christmas Day! Each to their own. But a Happy & Healthy New Year to one & all. Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Jim-D on December 31, 2007, 12:02:21 PM Never celebrated it before as never really had anything to look forward to!!
But 07 has been a very strange year and to be honest i'll be glad to see the back of it (split with my girlfriend of 10 years who i shared a nice house with to now living in a house share with 4 people i've never met) But 08 is gonna be alot better i feel, as of the 4 total strangers in my downscaled living i have fallen in love with one of them (yes it is a woman) and we have some big plans for this year which i truely hope come off. So even if you don't celebrate NY i'm wishing you all the best for 08 Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: ifm on December 31, 2007, 12:04:43 PM Blimey, what a depressing lot!!
New years eve is awesome, best night out of the whole year. You get to meet up with your pals, the only night of the year when everyone actually shows up, get drunk, loud and boorish and nobody cares. Then at midnight you get to kiss all the fit birds (maybe a little grope too), HEAVEN!! All in Fancy dress again this year and the girls are going as cavegirls wahoo!! Happy New Year all!!! Even the mardy mustards :D Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: charmaine on December 31, 2007, 12:24:37 PM Just another night to me , same as any other night .

Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: Laxie on December 31, 2007, 01:32:12 PM Our front door will be open and family and friends come and go as they please. It's kinda of the 'base camp' for everyone on the night, but we don't call it a house party, as such. Some head to the pub for an hour or two before midnight and others just land to ours. Kitchen is packed with all kinds of nibbles and snacks. We'll have a decent stock of alco and non alco drinks, but most usually bring something to add to the stash. At midnight the front yard is packed with children and adults while hubby and I do a fireworks display...weather permitting. After that, we just chill out with whoever is here. Kids in the sitting room watching movies or playing the wii and adults in the kitchen playing darts or cards. No fights, sloppy drunks or unbearable crowds. Just a handful of families (and the odd stray) enjoying the night together...bliss!!!

Post by: matt674 on December 31, 2007, 02:13:04 PM wouldn't say i hate it - but then since the millenium i've never been out on new years eve. We used to do a pub crawl of about 10 nearby pubs and then finish it off in our local but then since the millenium every pub used to start charging people to go so for someone who doesnt drink there's no way i'm paying £5 or £10 a time just to go into a pub to have one glass of orange juice.
Also the last few years the pubs near us seem to have been taken over by the youth of today who are much more interested in getting plastered on 6 cans of special brew first and causing trouble in all the local pubs - not like in our day!! ;whistle; So as i cannot spend this new years eve with the one person who i would want to welcome in the new year with then i'll be spending the first night at my new flat with no TV, no radio or no internet connection. Praise the monkey gods for the primate who invented the PSP..... :D Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Last year I spent new years eve in Vegas and tried hard to enjoy myself. It was not that great. Best thing was the fireworks at midnight across the strip. Worst thing were the thousands of people with stupid hats on and those noisy uncurling whistle things which really get on my wick. The next day I discovered my boyfriend was sleeping around (now there is a surprise ::) ) and it took all my control to not throw his lap top off the balcony of the thirtieth floor. Looking back I should have done. :D This new year I am packing, downsizing due partly to the financial situation my ex left me with. I am moving from a large detached showy property to a two bedroom flat and I am looking forward to it. Never thought I would (I thought I was more materialistic than I actually am) but I'm looking forward to making it a real home, my last house was never that. Property wise I'm going back 10 years but I'm better off than before. I may have less money in my bank account but I'm richer in friendship and I have many more laughs now than I did a year ago. New year is good, however you spend it, because it's another year to enjoy life - hopefully on your terms. Now - who do I have to sleep with to get a sponsor? rotflmfao Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Top man snoops. I recall, years back, when I was into relationships, Christmas, New Years Eve & Birthdays were living hell - the expectation that we "had" to go out, go visit bland boring relatives, watch Christmas TV, and NYE was far & away the worst. I actually am sympathetic to those who need to drink alcohol to enjoy themselves, but as beings, they change their whole personna when they are bladdered. I recall, as a teenager, the laddos had those "ooh, it's Friday, I'm gonna drink 20 pints & get legless" thing. And the chirps next day always amused me - "I drunk myself silly, 10 pints, was sick over the bird, & can't remember much else, & I felt shite for 3 days afterwards". And I'd say, "oh dear, & I missed out on that"...... Each to their own. Life is good, & it'll be even better tomorrow - and the day after, & the day after. Title: Re: New Year - Who Hates It? Post by: bobby1 on December 31, 2007, 06:18:04 PM I don't "hate it", but I don't celebrate it either, I'm the same with chrimbo. I bet you loved being around me, cupcake and Brian then eh Tony. Now that I cannot drink I have to admit that seeing how people change when they have had a drink is a real eye opener. I dont dislike drunk people full stop but some people's entire character seems to have a breakdown and they lurch into almost a prehistoric mentality and feel the ned to either disagree/argue with everyone or beat their chests in some show of strength. Anyway, I apologise for spoiling any of your previous nights out. :) I actually adored you,. Brian & Cupcake when you were all bladderd, because you were funny drunk, not loud, rude & obnoxious drunk. But I admit, I prefer your Company when you are sober, because we can chat like proper grown ups. I shared a cash table with a man called Hyder recently, he was pissed as a fart, but HUGE fun, & he did that thing that drunks do so well - stated the bleeding obvious. At 02,30, he falls off his chair, Padraig-style, & all his chips - £2k+ worth, fell on the floor too, they were everywhere. He is laying there, on his back, legs akimbo, totally stripped of all dignity, but then he went & said something that had the rest of us falling off our chairs, too. "Look, I just fell off my farking chair"....... lol brilliant, I have to admit I prefered talking to you when i was sober too, at least I remembered how you ended up with all my chips.
