Post by: dik9 on January 03, 2008, 04:21:49 PM You have answered own question really correctly IMO
LCD Deffo upto 40" Plasma for anything bigger Had the same budget 2 days ago for the same thing, in Currys was a 50" Plasma on sale for £899 looked great picture looked good and was sold until i asked what else, he showed me the same screen for £1000 when i asked the difference he said the £899 was lower grade than this mid range? SO decided against a low grade plasma, and decided on a Samsung 1080p 100htz 40" LCD from Comet priced up at £799 in sale, when i said I was going back to Curry's to compare again he immediately dropped the price to £725, told him to make it £650 and he had a deal ............... DONE :) http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0647198832.1199377461@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjaddmllmkffdcflgceggdhhmdfoj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=323560&category_oid= Instore offer £899 "special price" http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=389587 says £999 on site but is on sale instore at £799 Picked up instore for £650 :) after haggle Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? Best thing to do is demo the tv in a shop first then go looking for best price once you have chosen the model. Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? Post by: Nakor on January 03, 2008, 06:11:41 PM I have recently bought a 40 inch Panasonic (plasma) and my parents have bought an equivlant Philips LCD, and have to say that the LCD kicks the arse of my plasma.
Picture clarity, colour, size and weight of unit are far superior on the LCD IMO. Have to say though the gizmo's(screen in screen, timers etc) on the Panasonic are outstanding. When you have found the TV you want at the best price get John Lewis to price match it because they give a free 5 year guarantee. Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? Post by: UpTheMariners on January 03, 2008, 08:30:25 PM plasma for 42" and over
LCD for under 42" imo. Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? Post by: kinboshi on January 03, 2008, 08:34:36 PM Try Richer Sounds if you have one. When you have found the TV you want at the best price get John Lewis to price match it because they give a free 5 year guarantee. Always worth considering John Lewis. If they stock it, they'll beat Internet prices (as long as delivery is included). Of course on top of that there's the guarantee and fantastic customer service. (here ends the party political broadcast on behalf of the John Lewis Party). Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? Post by: dik9 on January 04, 2008, 04:02:51 AM Also it depends how long you think you want it to last, there are cheap lcd's HD ready but only 720, IMO you need a 1080i or even a 1080p to cover everything nicely for sky HD (which is only 720 AFAIK, but prob will increase) HDDVD, games consoles and PC use.
Contrast is also important on LCD's go for 10,000:1 or above the higher the better. I was reading on one forum that John Lewis was doing a price match from somewhere for a sony 40" (decent spec)and PS3 for £899. Worked out better to get from JL anyway as they give you a 5 yr warranty!!! Title: Re: plasma or LCD ?? With built in Freeview the latest V series Sony upgrades the picture to nearly HD quality My pal had a hard drive recorder thrown in as a deal I saw Curry's are doing a BlueRay player for 199 pounds by Samsung at the week end Hope that helps Title: Re: plasma or LCD ??
