Title: Comments made by Mick McCool and responses made by Blonde members
Post by: chunkymick on January 21, 2008, 05:07:07 PM
I have been a member of Blonde Poker from the very beginning, and although I generally do not post my views I am an avid reader everyday.
To be honest I am totally disappointed, and in a couple of cases disgusted at the treatment given out to Mick McCool.

For those who do not know Mick, He is a shortish, chubby, ginger headed irish chap who like most from the emerald isle has a great sense of humour. I have read the first comment he made about the updates on the GUKPT in Brighton and to be quite honest I fell about laughing as I found it quite funny, actually very funny. I sat next to him in a cash game at DTD last night and he brought the table to life with his joviality. I cannot beleive that the comments he made about the updates were "personal" in a vindictive way.

I have also read some of the comments made by "Chilli" regarding Mr McCool. The  word "vile" in my opinion should be reserved for the likes of Ian Huntley, Peter Tobin etc, "despicable" for the likes of those who prey on the old or weak. Mr McCool DOES NOT deserve to be treated this way.

There have been comments made by members who have never laid there eyes on "Micky", one being "drunken rants". I would just like to state that I have never seen "Micky" drunk and certainly never seen him abuse anybody verbally.

Maria, you know me. I am the guy who always smiles, says hello, sits down and plays poker the only way i Know, like Roulette, get busted out, shakes everybody's hand and say "Good Luck" . I am surprised by your comments and quite frankly think there must be some personal dislike between the two of you. Maybe there is some personal "history" between yourselves but the Blonde Poker forum is not the place to use some of the words you have written.

I beleive and apology should be made.

Definition: "FORUM" a meeting or medium for an exchange of views.

In my opinion there are members on this forum "the chosen ones" who can basically say what they want without the "unbiased" moderators jumping in, and yet there are members who in my opinion, and yes it is only my opinion that get crucufied every time they post.

Finally, all of the great work put in by the Updaters was undone by members just slagging off Mick.

I thoroughly enjoy the updates especially when I am unable to attend the tournaments, but am becoming increasingly concerned regarding the content and "style" in which some of the topics are written.

To quote Mick:

"Maria they would certainly be better than your attempts! As a matter of fact l could probably go to the local graveyard, dig up a couple of corpse's, give then a laptop and a Vodafone Dongle, with an SAS assault course to cover to get to the press room from the cardroom and they would be better updates than the ones you have been involved in."

Guide 1.01 How Not to use forums

1) Login to a given forum and tell them how shit they are.

2) Refer to point 1.

To be quite honest after being called "vile" and "gruesome" on a public forum I could think of quite a few words Micky could have used. The quote about the graveyard and the corpses again I found quite funny.

The problem I have about all this negative posting is that if "Micky " had called Chilli "vile" or "gruesome" he would have been stringed up by the nearest tree by now.

Pretty personal and vindictive if you ask me.

Why are you really here?  Has Mick decided his rant wasn't so slick after all?  Is he sorry he chose to take the route he took when requesting his account be closed?  If so, perhaps he is the one who owes an apology.  If not, than I can't see the point in dragging this up again.

Laxie,

Why am i here ?

I am obviously stupid. I thought this was a forum to express my "own" views.

...which seem to be that other people posting their 'own' views of Mick's rants is somehow out of order. Especially when they've been singled out by name.

An inconsistent position, to say the least.

Not stopping you.  Don't have that power.  Also don't agree with your views and have as much right to say so.

If you are invited to dinner and your host spends hours in the kitchen preparing a 5 course meal, is it comical to say, 'That was the most rubbish meal I've ever eaten.  Don't know why I bothered coming over.'?

For many here, Blonde is like a second family.  You can't honestly expect us to find it humorous when one of the family has been openly slammed while doing endless hours of hard work updating for us?  Constructive criticism is fine.  Suggestions for improvement, even better.  His posts achieved neither of these.

You found it funny.  Many did not.  I just don't see the point of fanning the flame when the fire has already gone out.

AndrewT,

I wouldn't call "as slow as a tractor on the M25 in rush hour" a "rant". As far as I am concerned he made an "off the cuff" comment, a "glib" remark at worse. To be called vile and gruesome is a bit strong.

Title: Re: Comments made by Mick McCool and responses made by Blonde members
Post by: Chili on January 21, 2008, 06:03:12 PM
Mick, sorry to see that you have decided to reiterate that you found Mick McCool's comments on saturday night "very funny" and not "vile" or "personal" in any way, and that you are in fact seeking an apology for him!!

Let me get this straight, Mick can out of the blue, completely slate the hard work of the updaters but expect no comments or come back from other posters that want to defend the updaters?  That includes myself, who as an updater in the past felt a good candidate to express how hard the updaters sometimes have a tough job made harder by external circumstances.

Instead my reply to Mick gets an out and out "vile" "personal" and "gruesome" attack on my skills as an updater.  Frankly I had every right to reply as I saw fit in that instance as anyone would. Those were the words I chose to use in that moment and were harsh but fair IMO. Its funny that you stated:

I am surprised by your comments and quite frankly think there must be some personal dislike between the two of you. Maybe there is some personal "history" between yourselves but the Blonde Poker forum is not the place to use some of the words you have written.

I'm personally not aware of any "history" from my perspective but who knows from what perspective he is coming from.  So you admit yourself the personal nature of which his attack was aimed.  This is not the first time Mick that McCool has personally attacked people in a nasty and unfair nature.  A while back he did a personal attack on Lucy Rokach and then banned himself from the forum only to come back and start posting once more.

Finally, all of the great work put in by the Updaters was undone by members just slagging off Mick.

The great work of the updaters was not undone by members "slagging" off Mick, rather than belittled by McCool's slating of their work.

I really didn't feel I needed to respond to this post, never mind make an apology but I have replied to what I think is right to stress.

Regards

Maria

"I must be the only one thinks this, BUT these are the WORST UPDATES ever. Wheres the chip counts, no flair and its slower than a tractor on the M25 in RUSH HOUR on the M25.

Come on, APPROX CHIP COUNTS WILL DO."

You say you found the 1st comment Mick made "quite funny, actually very funny." (which is your right).
Are you saying Mick posted it as a Joke post then?

Chili then posted her 1st response.
"I agree 100% Pelham Boy, I would also love to see Mr McCool even attempt an informative, humorous, clever and FAIR update himself.  Alas I fear though that Blonde's great reputation would go down the tubes if this was allowed to happen.

Obviously from doing updates in the past myself, I can appreciate the difficult conditions at times to even get a constant internet connection and the distance that the press are put away from the action at most casino's.  So congratulations slickid at your marvelous constructive criticisms at 2 guys who are giving you a great free and interactive service.  WD GG WP"

I personally dont see anything wrong in her response here but thats just my opinion.

Micks next post:

Maria they would certainly be better than your attempts! As a matter of fact l could probably go to the local graveyard, dig up a couple of corpse's, give then a laptop and a Vodafone Dongle, with an SAS assault course to cover to get to the press room from the cardroom and they would be better updates than the ones you have been involved in. You need to get of your high horse! I made a comment as to how l found the updates, but this is the last comment l will make on Blonde (NICEY NICEY). As l have informed Tighty, in future l don't even want Blonde mentioning me at events.

My Account is closed. GG WP SIUUAUFFC

I found this to be very distasteful, you said The quote about the graveyard and the corpses again I found quite funny.

again we are both entitled to our opinions, as you say thats what the forum is for.

But the point is Mick made IMO a personal attack against Chili before her final response, and therefore she had every right to defend herself, her choice of words may or may not have been the ones you or I would have used, but as to the way the posts evolved I dont think, and again its only my opinion that she owes Mick any apology in any shape or form.

Laxie,

You also do not see the point I am trying to make. If your most favourite comedian came to dinner, lets say Billy Connolly and he made a "dis respectful comment about your cooking in a humourous way, you would all fall about laughing.

Anybody who really knows Mr McCool, a happy go lucky "tinker" type personality, who cracks jokes at every opportunity would know he mean't no malice.

Its seems so very sad that his comments were taken out of context.

Chilli,

Thankyou for posting a reply and I take on board all the things you have commented on. i just find it so sad that people who sit across the table from each other 3-4 nights a week end up talking about each other this way. in my honest opinion I do not feel Micky meant any malice, and that you have every right as an individual to defend yourself.

I also read the comments he made about "Lucy", which was quite "frank" and also many many months if not years ago. Is he always going to be wearing this label as a "trash talker." if this is the case I feel quite sad and disappointed in the nature of certain individuals.

I was reading the updates live, when Mick posted and they (IMO) definatly did not come over as funny.
IMO it definatly seemed like a personal attack on Chili especially.

sorry mick i dont see the humour in his posts infact i dint find them funny at all

telling 2 people working there guts out that it was the worse update of all time  was out of order and he obviously hasnt seen any of my attempts at updates

then openly attack maria's updates was bang out of order and not in the slightest bit funny

if we had been accross the table when he came out with comments like that i would be asking him to step outside

he stepped outside on his own accord at the weekend and no matter what he says to me i wont being reopening the door for him again (as i have done in the past)

Posting in this thread is going to be so -ev, but here goes anyway.

Whilst I don't agree with anything Mick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=281) McCool (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=281) said in the thread, I have previously been on the same table as him at dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload) and always found him an pleasent and charismatic person, totally unlike the impression I had of him from some of his (previous) posts.

Now if I could just get a 60/40 to stand up against him - that would be great.

[edit - I must learn to spell]

Neeko,

Thanks for your comments. It was refreshing to find somebody who has a half decent thing to say about Mr McCool. I was starting to think that some sort of "brainwashing" had gone on at blonde and that Mick McCool had become the next "Public Enemy No.1"

Poker - its only a game.

Why do people complain about free stuff?

The expression "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"....means....checking the dental health of something of value that you are getting for nothing....is rude. I imagine it would still be rude if you looked in the mouth in a comical way.

I think that Mick would be the first person to admit that he is sometimes a bit on the fiery side to say the least , the truth of the matter is that several people were offended by his comments last night (wether intensional or not). Mick had a chance to apologise which he chose not to do, so end of story, let sleeping greyhounds lie.

Chunkymick - I recently spent a night at Luton with you and Mick in the £400 f/o, i was the poor ******** you hit quads on the river to kill my straight, and it was a fun night with lots of banter etc.

Mick's first comment might have been seen by him & others as banter, i dont know, but certaintly he would have seen the responses he was getting before he posted the second statement which was way over the top IMO. And thats where the problem lies.

If Mick genuinely was trying to be funny, he could have resolved it by claryfing this by stating that this was the case rather than continuing and making a bigger deal out of it.

Your right, it is a forum but it if he was being serious regarding the updates, he didnt need to post it on the forum, especially not knowing the difficulties the updaters where facing.

It could understand his comments if it was snoopy doing the updates, but he wasn't!!! ;)

Anybody who really knows Mr McCool, a happy go lucky "tinker" type personality, who cracks jokes at every opportunity would know he mean't no malice.

Its seems so very sad that his comments were taken out of context.

The thing is, most of don't know Mick. We don't actually know a lot of the people on here - we can only make our judgement on what they're like from the way they conduct themselves on here.

Chunkymick, if you did not know Mick, and read his comments on here, what opinion of him would you form? What sort of person would he strike you as?

I've really tried to stay away from this topic, but I can't.

As some of you know, I also update the GUKPT's, but for Blue Square. I am also aware of Mick McCool's "trash talking" reputation, although until now I was unaware of how that came to fruition.

I must be the only one thinks this, BUT these are the WORST UPDATES ever. Wheres the chip counts, no flair and its slower than a tractor on the M25 in RUSH HOUR on the M25.

Come on, APPROX CHIP COUNTS WILL DO.

When the original post was posted, it was pretty much impossible to get chip counts. It was the hand-for-hand bubble time and Zak and Ian had asked all the updaters, not just blonde, to stay to the sides of Brighton's tiny cardroom. Also, Lord Raab and his team give us accurate chipcounts every 2 hours. I personally feel that unless someone specifically requests a certain player's chipcount, or it's a final table and you only have to focus on a few players, then these are accurate enough.

Also, the distance between the Press Room and the Cardroom was the second longest I've ever been at. The entrance to the rear of the cardroom was at the other end of the casino, then it was up FOUR flights of stairs, through 2 doors, down the corridor, then there was the Press Room hidden away in the corner. It took a full 5 minutes to get there, then say 15-20 minutes to report, and another 5 minutes back. That's half an hour since you last left, and a LOT can happen in half an hour. My own strategy of updating was to get as much info as I can (often spending 30 minutes+ on the floor) and then produce a summary post of the big hands. There was no point giving out chipcounts as by the time it all went up on the blog, they were obsolete.

Added to this, the internet connection was truly dreadful for all parties, due to a fault with the BT line. It was constantly off, and updaters were constantly having to rewrite posts. I was typing mine in MS Word first just incase this happened to me! It was also taking 5+ minutes to load a page and/or post.

I've had the pleasure of working with Maria at some of the GUKPT's last year, and like the rest of the blonde team, she's a damn good updater. Also, updating is not the ridiculously easy job it's made out to be. Big hands can often be played out ridiculously fast, or there can be big all in's on 3 consecutive tables at once, and whilst its easy to just note down the cards and the betting, updaters generally have to try and remember everything else that goes with the hand, the reactions, the quotes etc. You try doing that for over 10 hrs a day. It's a lot harder than it looks.

Also, I personally thought this particular post was rather tasteless as I'm sure you're all aware that Rod lost his father recently. Even if the post was aimed at Maria, all of the blonde updating team would probably have found this offensive, and quite rightly. I was offended, and I'm a blonde that updates, not an Updating Team member.

If Mick does not want to apologise, and instead chooses to leave blonde, then that is his choice. He can go and read updates somewhere else instead. But they will be a lot different from the Blonde Updates, as AWOP and BSQ updates are a vastly different style. Mick might prefer those, who knows?

Adam.

I've really tried to stay away from this topic, but I can't.

As some of you know, I also update the GUKPT's, but for Blue Square. I am also aware of Mick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=281) McCool (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=281)'s "trash talking" reputation, although until now I was unaware of how that came to fruition.

Adam.

I think Adam sums this up well, if you dont like the FREE updates then look elsewhere, imo these are the best updates on the net and Blonde has the best update team in the business and should be proud of there efforts.

Hehe, I agree with the point you are making Byron. It doesn't matter whether you need to pay for the updates or not, they are still a good to read and continually reiterating that they are free is completely missing the point. Does the fact that I lose so much on blonde poker mean I pay indirectly? lol If so. I'm happy with the service.  Keep up the good work Blonde:)

In early December there was a thread with regards to what events we as readers of Blonde updates we would prefer as it appeared that Blonde might not get a sponsor for 2008 for the updates. At that time many members made the point that the Blonde updates were free and Tikay also stated that Blonde would never charge for updates. Whilst this debate was going on I realised there was a way we as members of Blonde could help pay towards the costs of updating indirectly and that was by playing on Blonde Poker. Obviously like other members I have many different poker accounts but Blonde wasn't one of them and in December I rectified that by opening an account. I now feel that by paying a small rake every month for my play on Blonde Poker I am contributing something towards the cost of the free updates but I certainly wouldn't want to change the way the updates are done and if I wasn't happy with the level of service I was receiving, remembering it didn't cost me anything, I as a consumer would have 2 choices:
1. Ask for a refund............oops its a free service.
2. Look around elsewhere for updates..............oh yeah I remember the coverage of the WSOP ME last year great if you wanted to know how a celebrity or named star was performing but useless if you wanted to know about the Brits.

So as far as I'm concerned if Slick Kid isn't prepared to apologise to the updaters he verbally abused he is welcome to visit other sites for updates and the Blonde Forum will be a much better place without him.

Finally I'd just like to thank Rod & Dana for yet another great update last weekend under most trying circumstances..................long may the FREE Blonde updates continue............and the norkage certainly improved last weekend too  ;)

I have have seen both sides of Mick Mccool, nice as pie to me and as rude as rude can be. He's not the only poker player like that and I tend to just let it go. If people want to let themselves down by acting inappropriately towards me I will, mostly, let them carry on. It's up to them to temper themselves and if they want to come over as rude so be it. I am not responsible for their behnaviour and I will try as much as I can not to let it affect me at the poker table. If it's towards someone else I will on occasions say something if someone else hasn't already.

At a festival at Luton I joined Mick late on in a comp - last 3 or 4 tables I think. I had been advised to take my ipod. As soon as I joined the table Mick started asking me questions which were:

"You're over 40 aren't you?" which he thought would be insulting to me because he thought I was under 40 - I took it as a compliment because I am over 40 - shhhh.

"You've been around a bit" was his second gambit. I laughed at that one too, single and over 40 there is a good chance I've been 'around' a bit so factually correct!! I'd like ot publicly apologise to my dad who in his own world still thinks I am pure...

I then put on my ipod and played my game. Mick, frustrated that he couldn't ask me any more questions proceeded to bang the table to try and get my attention as i bopped away to Abba and dancing queen.

Mick told me recently he had done all of that as he didn't want me to come on the table and become table captain. I took that as a compliment that another player thought I could be table captain.

Recently when I've seen Mick he's been pleasant to me, although he was 'vocal' at a table nearby at DTD, that is his playing style, and you can choose to like or or loathe it.

I'm not defending him in any way, his remarks were, I thought, inaccurate and badly put. What I find strange is someone else coming onto the forum to defend him, if Mick feels he's been wrongly accused of something he would surely say so himself. If he doesn't really care then he wouldn't bother, which he hasn't.

If he does care and has sent someone to plead his case then this is turning into a school playground discussion and I really haven't got time for it. I personally think an apology is worthless at this stage, if I were the updaters I would feel that an  apology is too little too late. He's said his piece, insulted various members of the forum (quite wrongly imho), he's set out his stall and showed people what he thinks and how he is. Let him live with it. If he wants to live his life disrespected by many and judged as rude, abnoxious and unpleasant let him. I think that it's sad that he is comfortable with that but I'm not going to let it affect me, and I don't think anyone else should either. I feel some pity that Mick feels that this is an acceptable way to behave and communicate.

Next time I see Mick I will be as I always am with him, playing poker and hoping to win. Mick Mccool is a player who likes to evoke drama and tension at the table, perhaps he's just achieved a 'group' tilt?

The guy acted like a clown and got fully deserved ridicule for it. Whether the guy is a clown or a nice guy is irrelevant, In that update he set out to be rude and derogatory and got the same treatment that anyone doing that would have got.
