Title: Valentine's Day
Post by: MrsBoldie on February 12, 2008, 06:46:48 PM
How do you celebrate (if at all)?

Last year we went a bit mad and did the whole romantic night away thing and presents but that was our first Valentine's Day together.  This year we've opted for just cards.  Of course this is after hounding my dear husband to find out what he had planned, and after about a week of him refusing to say (causing me to suspect a wonderful surprise) he hits me with "Valentine's Day is card's only"  Suits me though as I would be struggling to think of a Valentine friendly gift for him...

I understand the point of view that Valentine's Day is just another money making ploy for various industries but would be more interested to hear from the romantics amongst you.....

Driving up to Walsall with Kirsty in the morning, am treating her to a fry up in the local cafe before we set off. Will make her a card out of an A4 sheet of paper, (like the personal touch?) prior to setting off. Get to the village hotel early afternoon and i'm gonna let her go swimming while i sit on the side. ( i can't swim) Afterwards we will take a romantic stroll to the casino to check on how things are going with Rob Garfield & the blondes in day 1a. Then off to Nando's in Wolverhampton. I've checked, its only 6 miles away and then back to retire for an early night. Well, an early night for her, i'm hoping to play the £100 freezout on thursday night. What an old romantic i am eh?

Over twenty posts before the 'word' is even mentioned in a Valentine's thread!
I noticed cards were mentioned a bit more.
Still a newbie...not quite sure what to make of that, except that I came to the right forum for cards!

Happiest of Valentine's Day / Night to all, however you chose to celebrate!

I'm making the beagle celebrate the wonder that is me by dragging him to my gig (at Ginglik in Shepherds Bush if anyone else fancies it; I'm playing with a sort of band, and there'll be djembe and mandolins and three-part harmonies!). He already tried to get out of it by claiming that he was going to be in Walsall, which was I think a lie. His Valentines gift will be a harsh beating, never fear.

Thank you for your posts everyone - it's all making quite interesting reading

Now that Boldie has some ideas from this thread (good and bad) I'm not quite sure how it's going to turn out - but I think some previous posts have convinced him to cook at least!

I must admit, I'm rather cynical about Valentine's day as well and the Mister is actually quite romantic the rest of the year - but I can never say no to a bit more romance, no matter what the excuse.....

Have a nice day tomorrow anyway everyone - even if it's just cos it's nearer the weekend...

Sort some sort of flowers out. Buy card.

Booked restaurant, chinese obv, nothing Claire gets more excited by than watching me stuffing crispy duck into my face. Followed by drinks at pub, where I will destroy her at pool as usual but possibly as a special treat wont 7 ball her every frame...

All very standard and traditional so far, may break up the routine by delivering flowers and card dressed up as a ninja turtle. Can't be bothered (too cheap) to rent costume so turtle disguise will consist of putting a tie round my head as a bandana, shouting "cowabunga " as I give over flowers and sticking an eggshell to my back with sellotape.

My clinic is turning into a non valentines persons clinic tomorrow. Until this week, tomorrow was completely unbooked because you shouldn't have any alcohol for at least 24 hours after a treatment. So all our bookings for tomorrow are for people who are not celebrating valentines, we are completely full.

Each time someone books I ask them if they should be having the treatment as they need to avoid alcohol and it is Feb 14th. Everytime there is a little sigh and they confirm their booking.

My clinic beautician has a stalker (seriously nutty ex boyfriend who leaves love notes around the clinic for her etc etc)  so we're expecting lots of flowers for her tomorrow from him, along with singing telegrams and anything else he can think of to get her attention, so while all these single people come in trying to avoid valentines there will probably be a singing gorrilla pledging undying love to her in the waiting room. Should be interesting..... ::)

lol no, I abandoned her in las ramblas where she was sold into slavery....

actually she didn't want to move to gibraltar, and i didn't want to move back to the UK, so we kind of grew apart, then she started sending weird texts to my mum and sister and female friends - so I tagged her under bunny boiler and moved on........ and then i moved back to the UK anyway.....

So who are you suzanne? And are you anyone's other half? I spent most of saturday night drunkenly chatting up a selection of spoken-for ladies and it was pinfully embarassing the next day when I had to apologise to people I knew......

Well, I have to say I have been given a fabulous Valentine's Day full of glorious and romantic surprises including a beautiful card and original poem, a fabulous romantic book, the most glorious declaration of love in sculpture form and the buy-in to tonight's tourney at DtD.  In addition I was given the most wonderful shout-out on a fave programme and the original poem was to have been published but for a slip-up by the publishers.........the day, from start to almost finish, has been brilliant and we rounded it off with a delicious meal at DtD.

Many, many thanks, Bainn, (and all my Love), for really making me feel so special. :-*
