Title: The Masters Post by: B/FsCousinKev on April 01, 2008, 05:29:42 PM Hi folks, the masters coming up shortly and my "auld da's" a keen golfer who likes to have on flutter on any major event, however this year Euphegenia Doubtfire never made the top 50 and never got an invite (laugh out loud) and now he's not got a clue who to stick his tenner on !
so who could he get his money on this year ? I said Chris DiMarco and got shot down pretty rapidly. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: TightEnd on April 01, 2008, 05:31:38 PM Tiger Woods
An outside bet, but I feel his form may be about to turn for the better at last. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: jizzemm on April 01, 2008, 05:48:35 PM Monty for Sure.. ;whistle;
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: TightEnd on April 01, 2008, 05:54:31 PM seriously, you need a long accurate hitter (with a good short game)
have a look at the tour stats for fairways hit per round (and putts per round). From my research you have to be long and accurate first and foremost Goosen, due to his accuracy, usually runs well here I think Title: Re: The Masters Post by: ACE2M on April 01, 2008, 06:17:48 PM vj or ernie this year for me
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Rooky9 on April 01, 2008, 07:49:14 PM Justin Leonard, Phil Mickelson and a bloke called Woods. Not much value in those bets though!!
I'd probably have a smaller bet on the top 6 British lads. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Graham C on April 01, 2008, 08:01:17 PM I can't believe (well I can) that Woods is as good as evens before a ball is hit, crazy already.
For value, I think Westwood is pretty good at 90 and also Stricker at 85. Henrik Stenson is leading the European tour so is doing something right and is available at 75. He did pretty well in the WGC event recently and may be worth a tickle. Poulter at 390? If it's not Tiger, he surely has a shout ;) Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Pelham Boy on April 01, 2008, 08:48:43 PM Cabrerra @80 and Adam Scott @33.
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: ACE2M on April 02, 2008, 09:34:55 AM Cabrerra @80 and Adam Scott @33. cabrerra is to wild off the tee and scott doesn't have the short game needed for augusta Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Colchester Kev on April 02, 2008, 01:26:54 PM If Poulter gets top 6, I will bare my arse in Burtons window, the bloke is a clown.
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: jakally on April 02, 2008, 02:38:28 PM I think Ian Poulter is in with a shout .......... probably finish top 6. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Colchester Kev on April 02, 2008, 02:49:54 PM LOL he probably will if he reads this thread ... I hope i am on 10% for inspiring him ;)
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Pelham Boy on April 02, 2008, 04:53:41 PM Cabrerra @80 and Adam Scott @33. cabrerra is to wild off the tee and scott doesn't have the short game needed for augusta You don't win a US Open by being wild off the tee. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: ACE2M on April 02, 2008, 04:55:35 PM Cabrerra @80 and Adam Scott @33. cabrerra is to wild off the tee and scott doesn't have the short game needed for augusta You don't win a US Open by being wild off the tee. true, not exactly wild but just inconsistent, if he has a week of great accuracy like in the US open then he has a shout. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: B/FsCousinKev on April 06, 2008, 10:40:06 PM I said Chris DiMarco and got shot down pretty rapidly. No wonder i got shot down, just noticed that plonker DiMarco hasn't qualified this year. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: chrisbruce on April 08, 2008, 10:47:32 PM I dont know about Tiger for this one so I am going to leave him alone for now.
Im on Adam Scott at a massive 38 - 1 he was ill last weekend and so his price has drifted. Just watched his interview on the Masters website and he is fighting fit again and ready to go. Also having a bit on Geoff ogilvey at 25-1 I am also going to try my hand at Laying the folllowing players Phill Mickelson - Most overated player in golf (he's good but he's not THAT good if you know what I mean) Ernie Els - Unable to string four consceutive rounds together at the moment Padraig Harrington - has done nothing since the open Good luck with your picks and enjoy the best event of the year!!!!!!!! Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Pelham Boy on April 08, 2008, 11:37:22 PM Not sure about laying Mickleson. He's got a fantastic record at Augusta.
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: scotty2hatty on April 08, 2008, 11:43:58 PM Does anyone know where I can get a guide to The Masters online? With stats for all players etc.
Ladbrokes near me is paying top 6 for e/w bets. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Colchester Kev on April 08, 2008, 11:44:32 PM what price is Poulter, whatever it is i will lay it and add a bit.
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Karabiner on April 08, 2008, 11:46:55 PM Good luck with your picks and enjoy the best event of the year!!!!!!!! [/quote] Why is it "the best event of the year" with it's invited field and limited TV coverage ? Not only that but it eliminates all but the longest hitters from having a realistic chance of winning. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Graham C on April 08, 2008, 11:49:07 PM aren't we on Ryder Cup this year too :D
Title: Re: The Masters Post by: chrisbruce on April 09, 2008, 10:56:14 AM Ralph I just love the Masters !!!
Its an amazing golf course that always creates immense drama. Nothing is certain and everything is possible. Five putts, putting into the water, par 5s that can be a 3 or an 8. A 3 stroke lead can be wiped out in one bad hole.....easily. Players who are 3/4 shots back with 9 holes to play are never out of it if they take on the par fives. At the same time a medium range player who's putting is hot i.e. Zach Johnson. Can still win if they play to thier strengths. Just great drama. Ok you got me on the limited TV coverage !!!!! but you can watch amen corner on line live all day long I thought you might be on your man Caberra? Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Karabiner on April 09, 2008, 03:33:32 PM I have been watching Cabrera closely all season hoping for some spark of life but his driving has been uncharacteristically awful this term, I think he hit 38% of fairways last week. I know that Augusta is not the tightest but I still couldn't bring myself to back him. He'll probably hit every fairway and win now :)
I too love Augusta and The Masters Chris, it signifies the real start to the golf season for me. But I don't think it comes close to The Open as a major. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Graham C on April 09, 2008, 07:29:43 PM Am I right in saying that the only tv coverage tomorrow is from 9pm to 11:30pm (ish)? That's shocking if it is.

even in the US, you only get the same TV time stuck in about 1963, the organising committee!! Title: Re: The Masters Post by: AndrewT on April 09, 2008, 08:53:06 PM http://www.masters.org/en_US/about/tvsched.html even in the US, you only get the same TV time stuck in about 1963, the organising committee!! The reason is that they think (maybe not unreasonably) that the people who actually go and watch it on the course deserve a bit extra. Watching golf live is, well, rubbish - I can't think of another sport where a live spectator gets to see so little of the action. The Masters committee have decided that the first nine holes should be something only the people on the course get to see. EDIT: - actually, scrap all that - they've changed the rules and now allow cameras on the first nine as well, though it may be highlights only, and not live coverage. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: TightEnd on April 09, 2008, 08:55:06 PM which is frankly barmy
are the tv rights for the masters lower than the Opens? or does the cachet of the event ensure they get paid top whack regardless? Title: Re: The Masters Post by: AndrewT on April 09, 2008, 09:04:08 PM which is frankly barmy are the tv rights for the masters lower than the Opens? or does the cachet of the event ensure they get paid top whack regardless? The club is so loaded (because of the juicy membership fees) that they can tell the broadcasters to go whistle with any demands. If the top bidder were to demand more coverage, they'd simply tell them to sod off and go with a cheaper, more acquiescent broadcaster. Ive had small ew bets on Cabrera, Romero, Mahan and Byrd in the without Woods markets and bet Cabrera ew in the top rest of the world market. My main bet is a bit of a gulp and press bet wager, ive sold Tiger Woods over Ian Poulter at 13.65 shots over 72 holes on Sporting index's matchmakers facility, Poulter made the last 8 cuts in majors and if he makes the cut here he should cover un ess Tiger goes ballistic tho it might not be very comfortable to watch. If either player misses the cut the score is doubled, so for instance if Poulter misses and shoots +4 his score for this bet is +8. Should Woods then be on -6 he would win by 14 shots and I would lose only 0.35 of a unit. If Woods was -10 the make up would be +18. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Rooky9 on April 10, 2008, 09:09:51 PM Justin Leonard, Phil Mickelson and a bloke called Woods. Not much value in those bets though!! I'd probably have a smaller bet on the top 6 British lads. I wish I was a betting man - though to be fair I would have had most of the field with 9... Title: Re: The Masters Post by: chrisbruce on April 10, 2008, 11:30:48 PM How lucky is Mickelson!!!!!!!!
FFS he cans his blind third shot for birdie on the 1st when it was flying past the hole, not even going to hold the green. On the 13th he plugs one into the bank of rays creek defying gravity and goes on to makes birdie. Im not worried about him winning though!!!!! Title: Re: The Masters Post by: bobby1 on April 11, 2008, 11:01:06 AM Nice start for the Brits. Weather forecast looks very temperamental for the next few days and Rose might well get some very iffy weather today as he is in the last group out when either the greens will be getting v fast or if the wind and rain does come he could be playing greens that are running a lot diferently to yesterday.
Iv added a buy of Lonards finishing possie at 33 to my bets, not sure he has the game to maintain a challenge around here if it stays fast as lilke a few other Aussies brought up in windy areas he plays a lot of his shorter shots lower than most and doesnt have the towering high shots that the yanks can only play. So if it stays fast he might struggle to keep the ball near the flags on some greens with his lower ball flight. Tho he is a good wind and rain player there are plenty of decent names just behind him that seem more likely to over take him...hopefully! Title: Re: The Masters Post by: Colchester Kev on April 11, 2008, 08:01:54 PM Immelmann ha had 2 stunning rounds ... as has Snedeker, i didnt back him online though so i cant trade off :(

If there is a weakness in your game this course will find you out. I can tell you I have been sweating big time over the weekend having laid some key players. Thankfully Immelman held it together and I got away with a small loss.... 2 lessons learnt. 1. dont place your bets on until near the night before as every golfer seemed to drift in the market as the start approached. 2. Lay all the golfers with a poor putting record i.e. Westwood, Garcia, you need to putt exceptionally well round here. Title: Re: The Masters Post by: scotty2hatty on April 14, 2008, 07:50:58 PM 2.
