Talking of Ironside, he was at Blackpool over the weekend, all set for a group visit to a Lap Dancing Club with a bunch of guys. They tried on Friday & the clubs were shut. So they tried again on Saturday, & all the clubs they found were down flights of stairs, with no wheelchair access, so he was pretty hacked off. But they eventually sorted one sunday evening, & all was set for the visit, & a taxi was summoned. As I left the Casino to drive home, there was this incredible scene in the Car Park. The taxi had a little portable wheelchair ramp, & Ironside, in his wheelchair, was halfway up it. But the ramp was too narrow, the wheelchair was half on, half off, & they were using crowbars & the brute force of 4 guys to try to force the wheelchair through the taxi door.....

Black humour, eh?

But a salutory reminder to folks who moan & whine about bad beats. Being stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of your life - now THATS what I call a bad beat.

i have to say though that P4C still gave me one of my most memorable 'blonde' weekends, staying in a caravan in scarborough with kev, booder, and rod P (and guest starring appearances by bradley . jen flushy and junglecat.. absolutely hilarious from start to finish

the scene was set on the train from glasgow to york with me and rod tanning a decent sized carry out, and arriving at york station to catch the last train to scarry. fuckit, we'll get a taxi after another few pints...

taxi driver says 'oh i play poker in the pub sometimes, and proceeded to regale us with his bad beat stories. i then stuck my head out the window and kept it there for the next half hour....

The "Kev" shortcut through the caravan park ... The Valet that dropped something on every trip ... the Irish having a punch up in their caravan, and Davey being dragged through the door of the caravan when asking us to keep the noise down ... the Taxi drivers face during that trip home.. Your "ipod" ... PALESTINES ... The buckfast stains... what an absolutely priceless weekend that was, very treasured memories.

Such an incred weekend, that night in the caravan will never be topped.

And the girl on the train going to do the Great North Run - Laz tries to sell the bluff that we were athletes as well as we try to get her to take a beer ;D

Fucking ridicolous. Travelled a long way for that comp and did my absolute bollox in. Was busto soon after as it happens.

I'd need to have a root around to find the exact figure.

Tom & I met two of their guys at a Hotel in Stoke on Trent one night, Tony Banbury & "Jaguar" I think, (both dead straight guys, by the way, who had got "trapped" by Mr Newth), to try & sot it all out. We got a cheque - every penny in their Bank Accouunt allegedly - for a few grand, leaving a shortfall of about £2k I think, but don't quote me on that, I can't recall off the top off my head.

The thing is, nobody will ever KNOW the shortfall. Aside from the £4k that AndrewT organised from his cardroom employers, & the "public" Auction, the proceeds of the Tourney, & "in hand" donations were never known. Not accurately, anyway.

i was first up playing one of the irish guys heads up, and we both quickly worked out that for as long as we were playing we got free drink. raise...fold raise....fold etc etc for nearly three hours....

Awful memories, terrible position to be in when one has never had to rely on others for help all their lives then suddenly realises it may help take off the pressure but then also finds out it aint all it is cut out to be.. Won't bother commenting on any of it as it's all been said, other than to say to you, why on earth would you or your family feel any way uncomfortable about this? Because even to someone who has only scanned the details, it's patently obvious you had nothing at all to do with any funny business that went on, and my impression was you were very wary of taking charity in the first place, but did it for your grandson.

Don't be uncomfortable posting on here or anywhere, you are in no way involved or responsible for the things that went on with this "charity". This isn't my business Keith so a row was not what I was thinking of - I'm trying to be less confrontational as of the last few months. There's a guy who plays in the cash games at Empire that ppl call Davey (seems like a bit of a weasel but not a rough type so guess it can't be the same bloke you're on about) and I wanted to see a picture to see if it's him or not.

At the end of the day if the guy doesn't pay the money then so be it. Karma has a funny way of biting these people.

I don't think anyone really knows if the whole thing was a planned as a ripoff or the charity was just run badly and the overheads spiralled out of control.

I tend to think it was the second. Davey wanted to do good things for kids but didn't have the experience to run the charity.

He is actuallly good company to have a beer with. I would be very disappointed if I found out it was one big con trick.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a con, just a charity that set itself on a nationwide level with grand ideas of running huge events that only a few folk turned up to.

I thought all the money from the Western event was now sorted though, this is news to me.

Not that there's owt wrong with a small charity tournament. Just do them on a local level, run by people volunteering their time seems to be the lesson learnt from P4C.

As Tikay said earlier,  in the end there was 2k to account for.....apparently it was going as a gift/grant/donation to a hospital, .....but i don't believe any proof/information was given to confirm this.

I sent P4C a new laptop and wireless router after they put out an appeal in 2006 and didn't get any kind of membership. Would it be too late to ask for it back?
