This is a good idea, i often find peoples blogs off Blonde and think "i wish id known this guy had a blog".

This way we could have them all recorded in an easy to access fashion.

I'm ambivelant on this, but I can see it has some merit, some fors & againsts.

I'll raise the subject on the Mods Board & see what my fellow Mod-nesses have to say.

I am in the camp which believes that these Diaries are of interest to some, maybe many, blondes, so the suggestion interests me. For me, the more diaries the better - but then I would say that, eh?

Have it as a sub board, it'll fit nicely alongside Blondite Profiles...

Can't say I have Rooks, I have never monitored the view-count, it's not relevant (to me), though I have been offline most of the last week. Folks will read it if they want to, or not, as they wish. It's mostly for my own enjoyment & fulfillment, but I must admit it's nice to get feedback on it.

imo all the diaries should be on a completely seperate forum which only Rooks has access to. he can then report back once a day and everything will be much tidier.

In seriousness, I think that with the amount of diaries going at the moment a separate board would be a good idea for ease of access.

Hey it would work, with them all on one board they are much easier to follow!

I think we decided a few weeks ago not to..there were differing mods views, and some powerful reasons not to. As well as some good reasons to contemplate it

However seeing as every mug now has a diary we might re-consider

I'm apathetic either way to be honest, but you can always just ignore threads that aren't of interest.  Surely the lounge is the right place for these threads (and maybe the rail if they are poker focused)?

hmm - I'm coming at it from the other way.  I don't see it as making them easier to ignore for people that don't want to read them, but making them easier to find and keep track of for those that do - it was easy enough when there were only a handful, but it's harder to keep up with them now. 

just do what I do and post  in every single one of them so that they are always top of your updated topics list :)

There's only 5 of them on page 1 of "The Rail" main page and 2 might go away after Vegas so I can't see the problem.

Maybe if they start taking up 1/3 of the page then move them but otherwise leave 'em for now imo.

It's only when diaries dominate the thread that they need their own little space.

have to disagree with this. for starters I make it 6 of the top 12 non-stickied threads on the rail plus this one discussing them.

now imo if diaries are not to get their own board they need to be moved to the lounge unless they are specifically poker related.

imagine a newcomer to blonde, they've just heard about this great poker forum, UK's busiest, and think it'll be a great place for them to go, learn about the game and improve. they find their way to the rail where they expect to find discussions on poker and start reading through some of the threads at the top of the page.
pictures of Rich's kids in the nets. is this newcomer going to think this is the place for them to learn the game or are they going to fuck off?

all these threads have a place on blonde and a very important place at that, it's just not on the rail. if no new board then at least move them to the lounge

All very good points particularly about the newcomers. These diaries are probably of no interest at all until someone gets to know a bit about the people who are writing them.

When I first saw this thread about moving diaries I thought it was a good idea. I don't think it's good to have diaries moving other poker threads on to page 2 of the rail. Let's face it, once they're on page 2 that's it they're gone for good.

Once I saw that there weren't too many of them I wasn't so sure so changed my mind. Now Gatso has changed my mind again.

I have now decided to express my rights as an Englishman and remain on the fence with regards to this issue. I think it is a very good idea and also a very bad one. It is also potentially reasonable whilst at the same time totally unreasonable.

So let's stand together and let the diaries stay!!! Or move them if you feel that's better.

I actually think that a lot of the diaries should be in the Lounge - as they are predominately non-poker.  The ones that are mostly poker-related should be in the Rail.

But it's not a huge problem/issue.

They will all be poker related soon enough ... Im gonna spam blonde comps on them all :D

Erm what blonde has different boards? I firstly click the "show new replies to your posts" and then "show unread posts since your last visit", rinse repeat about once a week hour.

Ship the non-poker ones over to the lounge imo, they get updated all the time so quickly push other poker related threads down.

I agree and to be honest it's hard to think of a diary that is predominately poker anyway.

There really is no need for a diary board, for a start there simply isn't enough of them to warrant it. The ones that are mainly about trips to Vegas will soon die a death, updated ones jump to the top of the board anyway - so hardly a need to 'search out' a particular one, it's not as if we have hundreds of daily updated diaries.

I say stick 'em in their own forum, password protect it so it won't show up in "show unread posts since your last visit" and those that want can browse to their hearts content.

Just a couple of points.

I like this forum a lot its fun and its lively, sometimes very lively to point that I can get downhearted about some peoples attitude to life and other things, but hey its a REAL forum...

I only really look at two boards Lounge & Rail but I always look for the diaries first, they to me are excellent. If the diaries are moved I would then look at three boards so not really a problem, but to say that this should only be a poker forum is wrong in my opinion, ok it is about poker and we are brought together by poker, but it is also about people REAL people and long may it remain so.

My opinion and maybe a narrow one but if you see them in your "show unread posts since your last visit" ignore them its not really a chore is it

Agreed, imo, there are 2 reasons why they tend to stay at the top of the boards:

People do want to read them
And people do want to contribute by updating them.

Again the choice is always there, if you want to read them then do so,if you don't, then don't.

I've just caught up with Bandit's revived diary and have been reminded of what a fantastically funny item it is.

Does it have the prose of Red Dog or Duke, certainly not, is it as entertaining...........definately.

i dont want them on a nother board because they irritate me or anything, i want them on another board so i can read them all one by one, like i do with blogs. Sometimes threads go missing if there is no activity for a day or so.

Some of the diarys on blonde are very good (well 2 of them imo) but as with everything i feel we are saturating the site with stuff that is uninteresting and stuff that frankly is uninteresting to anyone that doesn't know the person personally.

Imo blonde is selling itself short with sub standard nonesense, that is better put in blogs. No offense to anyone in particular but if you want to talk about your poker life there are ways and means that don't involve posting on blonde.

Tikay will no doubt disagree with me and it his ball and he will do what he likes with it, but these diaries are a mistake imo.

I suppose - unurprisingly! - I do disagree, but only in that I look at it differently.

I see it as "each to their own", & "live & let live".

Take these examples......

Battrick Thread. 190 pages, 2,842 replies, 14,600 views.

soccermnager.com, 1,460 replies, 8,396 views, 98 pages.

Two Word Poker Story. 5,470 replies - in the all time Top Ten threads.

4,000 SNG's in 2 months, 22,000+ views.

Or all those Football Threads.

The current fashon is Staking Threads, everyone is up for them.

I can't be arsed to open them. Does that make them bad? No, of course not! Just not to my taste, that's all.

Clearly, a lot of readers enjoy them, the Stats don't lie. Me? I've never opened them, as they are not my thing. But what's wrong with letting them run if others enjoy them? Just because I, or you, don't enjoy them, does not mean they should be removed, or dis-couraged. Or that we should, if we don't like them, complain about them. Live & let live.

Diaries? Personally, I'm encouraging others to write them, because I like them, or some of them, & there may be hidden diamonds in there - Snat & Tighty are good examples. IMO, of course! But I'm not encourging people to read them, or not read them - that's their choice. Should they have their own board? I'm ambivelant. Maybe one day, maybe not, it's not an issue either way. There are far bigger issues than that to sort out.

What are you suggesting? We set up a committee to veto stuff whch we like or don't like?! That would be unthinkable. Folks can write what they like, about what they like, surely? Who decides if it's sub-standard? Readers do! They read stuff if they like it, they don't if they don't. I'm really struggling to see why that's a problem. I loathe ITV (Telly) but it does not exercise my mind - I just don't watch it.

I'm acutely conscious of the fact that some readers don't like Diaries, they remind us frequently. But the converse is also true. Some love them. Some Diaries are not written for others. I don't have an issue with them being "parked" on blonde.

Ditto with 2 word story, Battrick, soccemanager.

I hope someone can explain to me why "live & let live", & "each to their own", is such an issue. They'll do well!

Writing creatively, starting interesting new Threads, is not something everyone can do, some can only "respond", not "start". But I don't think we should discourage it.

From time to time, really poor-quality threads begin. They soon die. In their own time.

Have you read the story of Rook's Greyhounds? It's fascinating - we, the blondes, feel those dogs are ours. We want them to do well, we will back them when they run. Rooks has written that with real passion, & many of us love it.  Any many loathe it. It has nowt to do with Poker, not one word of it, but I'd hate it not to be here, & I'm proud it is. We see Rooks thissing & thatting on Poker threads, but look at the passion in his eyes & writing when he talks about Cassie!

can we please put them in the lounge though? even those with a large poker content belong there imo as this is the community section of the site. as I've stated previously the rail really is not the place, this is where we should have poker related threads that are of interest to all. having all these diaries in the rail will put off newcomers to the site, this is not imo, it's FACT. think I'll quote myself just to make the point as I cba to re-write my thoughts on the subject.

We have/still are discussing the diaries in the mods room, opinion is divided on the "best" course of action, pretty much the same as on here really.

Obviously the views of the members are taken into consideration when we debate such topics, and im sure we will make a decision soon enough.

My personal view is that I dont think we need a "diary board" , but i do think they should be in "the Lounge"

How about just putting the diaries in a different colour font so they can be spotted easier

imo the problems with the diary's are that good posters come on blonde to write on their diary's and neglect to post on most of the other forum, conversely people that would otherwise spens a lot of time reading the forum in it's entirety dont seem to post as often now unless it's on one of the big diary's and i see the forum as a whole suffer for it.

I just started dropping into tikays diary for the updates but have missed  a years worth the same with red-dogs so im not going to get into them now (but the other day i did read tightys one from the start which i liked so will probably keep up with that now and then but thats because ive now read it from the start) but the point about tightys is it doesnt really contain that much poker, why should it be on the poker board?

I cant really comment on the quality of anyones elses as i havnt read them but i agree having all these non poker related diarys jamming up the most popular board will be ostracising for new members and exasperating for existing members indifferent to the non poker related goings on of the writer.

I disagree with moving the diaries, particularly Red's, Tikay's and Tighty's as the poker content on them is some of the better poker postings on the Rail.

Some could be moved because they don't have the poker content, but that's a bit insulting to tell people their diary doesn't deserve to be on the Rail.

In the end it's easy to not bother reading if you don't want to so I'd say leave them where they are. If anyone WANTS theirs moved however, it's easilly done if they ask a Mod.

In fairness you're not even an active poster on here.

I dont think it does hit the nail on the head, i think the biggest problem i find is, it can push down some decent poker threads that can be easily missed.
Dont get me wrong, i read most of the blogs but they seem to be overtaking the boards at the moment.

In fairness, even if I was a brand new poster I'd have as much right to an opinion as you.

So for an opinion it wasn't fair, or even accurate.

definitely move them. The rail is for things poker related... these boring ass blogs about peoples lives isn't poker related. Sure enough, some people care or pretend to care about the content, but when i click on the rail to read about poker related things, I want to read about poker related things, not about how someone escaped a love interest that was never going anywhere.

Fwiw my three shillings worth is that a new board for such things would be good.

I for one love reading them as i find them particularly entertaining and humourous.

Stick em all in one place then they'll be easier to find save darting about all over the forum looking for them.

I have to admit to finding the upsurge in diaries isnt for me but surely all forum(foras?) work on the Parettos principal that say Sunday Newspapers work to. There are usually about 6 pullout magazines in the one I read but of those I would never think of opening the Motoring or Finance pullouts but would be all over the news and sports ones. Others would be all over the Motoring and Finance and not open the Sport or News and the Parettos principal of a different 20% of the content making 80% of the readers happy works a treat there. Same here imo, Of the non poker threads I would happily read all the sports and betting threads but tend not to read the diary or staking threads but that doesnt men those threads should be alienated just because they make up a differing 20% of the content to my perferred 20%.
