Title: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: Rod Paradise on July 25, 2008, 02:05:28 PM http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/2008/07/sun-gotcha.html (http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/2008/07/sun-gotcha.html)
Nothing but racism, but we know they'll a) not get pulled up for it. b) make the excuse that they needed the space for a headline. c) they left a black person in shot (as the passenger, not the driver). Hillsborough wasn't the only reason the Sun should have been shunned. OK just checked the link. I'm not a fan of the sun by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think there's any sinister motive here, and certainly can't see evidence that's it's racist. It looks to me that they've removed that guy from the picture purely for layout purposes (if they'd left him in they'd have not been able to have the headline where it is as would be cutting across his face). I think someone just took the decision that he wasn't integral to the photo, and I'm pretty sure they'd have photoshopped him out whatever his colour. Bit odd that they left his leg in though!!! Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: kinboshi on July 25, 2008, 02:08:44 PM I had to listen to that odious piece of scum who is Kelvin Mackenzie on the radio the other day. The man is a facist.

Excuse b then. Sorry Claw - I disagree, although I think you reached that conclusion from the best of intentions. The connected article (which I read) was about Wills on exercise regarding evacuating a Caribean island in event of a volcano. Take out the black guy drving and it looks like they're all taking the one black guy to safety. One couldn't have the future king being taken ashore by a rasta could one? Then taking into account the recent bahaviour of Fox news - I'd trust them as far as the BNP. Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: TightEnd on July 25, 2008, 02:29:16 PM sure, it may not be media with an agenda you like, and clearly they go too far on occasions...but its a free press, regulated by the PCC, wishing they were closed down is as bad as the views (or the way they are represented) you despise.
Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: gatso on July 25, 2008, 02:33:24 PM far too quick to jump to racist conclusions imo.
now if the metro had done it I might have agreed, much easier to believe the Mail doing this. unedited pic is on Sun's website as well btw where they didn't need the space to put a headline Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: Rod Paradise on July 25, 2008, 02:35:26 PM sure, it may not be media with an agenda you like, and clearly they go too far on occasions...but its a free press, regulated by the PCC, wishing they were closed down is as bad as the views (or the way they are represented) you despise. You MAY have a point there - although freedom of the press is a nebulous thing, even in this country. I'm not even talking purely from a political point of view though - for the good of everyone on these islands, the demise of the Sun would be a good thing. Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: TightEnd on July 25, 2008, 02:38:09 PM but its subjective Rod...you'd say it about the Sun or the Daily Mail..someone else might say exactly the same about The Guardian
it may be mendacious journalsim from the likes of The Sun, but its got just much right (within law and regulations) to publish as any other organ. If it wasn't what a significant portion of people in this country wanted, it wouldn't get bought. Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: EvilPie on July 25, 2008, 02:47:46 PM So they've photoshopped some guy out of a picture.
So what? They've done it loads of times before and nobody would care if it was a white guy. People picking up on it and calling it racist is far worse in my opinion. More PC nonsense. Why do people have to highlight the fact that he's black. He's a person. A person has been taken out of the photo. It's as simple as that. Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: celtic on July 25, 2008, 04:31:30 PM sorry, dont get it Rod.
Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: Longy on July 25, 2008, 05:12:15 PM Seems a bit of an overreaction to say this is racist. Im not a fan of the sun, but what they did here is some awful photoshopping and little more imo.
Title: Re: Why the Sun should be put out of business no 567321 Post by: brummieboy on July 25, 2008, 06:17:23 PM Unbelievable reaction to claim this was racist, have people got nothing better to do.
However whats more worrying is how often do they actually manipulate and alter their photo's, I full aggree that it's bad practice and could really distort the truth. Why do people have to highlight the fact that he's black. He's a person. A person has been taken out of the photo. It's as simple as that. This is the thing that really pisses me off. I don't care who they left out of the picture..they editted the picture to suit their own needs rather than worry about accuracy. It's shoddy journalism, this is what the Sun (and many other tabloids) are well-known for..it's shocking and everybody who writes/works for the Sun (and many other British tabloid) should stop calling themselves a journalist immediately...you're not a proper journalist if you work for a rag that manipulates pictures. In fact I remember the Sun being very pissed of with the BBC about "The Noddy practise" (interview inserts showing the interviewer nodding as if he was doing it during the interview) and "The Queen walking out" scandal. Rupert Murdoch's rags have always been filled with hypocrisy and lies so it will come as no surprise that those hyprocrites at the Sun would attack someone for doing something that is remarkably similar to what they themselves do. This might only be a "minor" incident..but it is endemic of a much larger problem amongst the British tabloids. If they do it with trivial things like this then what are they doing with things that actually affect us? If they can edit this they can edit photos relating to war stories, politics, religion or anything else that could lead to genuine repercussions from one party or another just because of a picture they saw. I was talking to the good mrs pants last night. ( She was in full on BB mode ) And I mentioned the sun showing piccies of Beck's Baps. Her honest reaction was : ''Oh, does anyone read the sun nowadays. I mean, it's so easy to get porn on the web, I'm surprised anyone bothers.'' |
