Title: Mobile phone stolen - options? Post by: kinboshi on July 27, 2008, 11:04:04 AM The missus had her handbag stolen last night (camera, some money and a mobile phone in it - no credit/bank cards fortunately).
She's still under contract for the phone, and we didn't take the insurance out on it. The phone has been reported stolen, so the sim and phone have been blocked. But what options are available? Going back to the carphonewarehouse and they'll charge whatever they charge for a replacement sim, and also a few hundred for the phone (I'm guessing). What's the best way to do this? Can we get a sim card and get hold of a phone from somewhere else? Where's the best place to get a phone that can take an O2 SIM card other than from the shop we got it from originally? If anyone has any advice, it'd be much appreciated. Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? Post by: Newmanseye on July 27, 2008, 11:10:28 AM You will get the sim free, as for a new phone, Ebay is your friend, dont buy form CPW, you will just pay too much. Also, how long do you have left of the contract? It might be worth while your wife putting up with a basic phone if its only a few months. Free phone with the new contract.
Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? Post by: ChipRich on July 27, 2008, 11:16:58 AM This happened to me last year. They sent me a new sim card for my contract free and i just had to put it in an old phone until contract was over.
Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? Post by: byronkincaid on July 27, 2008, 11:18:48 AM when i get a new phone which is roughly every 3 or 4 years, I just type sim free model whatever into google, find the cheapest one for sale, google the company to make sure they're OK and er order it
Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? Post by: kinboshi on July 27, 2008, 11:19:35 AM Cheers all.
Wasn't sure if the ones on ebay would be OK or not. I guess if they say they're O2 or 'unlocked' they'll be fine and it's just a case of her sticking the new SIM in one of these? I think she's got about 6 months left on the contract, so yes - she'll have to make do with whatever we can get cheap until then. Funnily enough, she starts a new job in a month (same company) and there might be a phone that comes with her job... Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? Even if you get one that is locked, you can unlock it for about £10 - £15, most small independent phone shops ogffer the service Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? when I had my mobile stolen last year,Pete rang the house insurence company, and it was covered under that, all we had to do was send the manual from the phone to them, and they posted me out an identical phone.:) Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options? There was a camera too (it was getting a little old, but was a cracking camera in its day and still a decent one now, even though the battery life wasn't brilliant). Post by: Suited_Jock on July 27, 2008, 03:32:27 PM Don't suppose anyone has a half-decent (or just decent) mobile phone they're looking to sell? :dontask: kin, I dropped and cracked my good phone about 2mnths before my contract ended and bought this (http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-as-you-go/lg/chocolate-lilac/vodafone/sstep/) in black mind you.. for like £35, lots of features for a cheap phone and if you tell them you already have a sim you shouldn't have to buy the £10 of top up. I have a 3giphone now and all is right in the world :) Title: Re: Mobile phone stolen - options?
