i need help finding the year for these tracks which i will include

Is there a judge in this prop bet?

You'll probably put together a stonking CD, but if 11 randoms are judging, I fear their tastes will be for the more commercial tunes that you're trying to avoid. Best CD might lose the bet.

Good luck though, I hope I'm wrong.

I think if you mix a bit of Tightys and a bit of Snoopys, you get an almost perfect album.

Then just include 'Wham Rap' to seal the deal

Sigh ... its a competition , it has to appeal to a wide choice of punters ... my selections reflect that.

Its not lets do a CD of OUR PERSONAL 80's fav's ... its a CD which will be a commercial success in the OP's prop bet.

Kev, it's naff and you know it, don't try to sell Tiffany as a mass draw for the 80's!

have to confess it was one of the first songs I thought of - it's just so very 80s and it's one of those that when it comes on at a disco I have to get up and dance.  Please note, however, that I stopped short of posting it on the thread!!

Exactly, because although we all remember it from back then (and have some rather embarrassing memories...) , it hasn't really stood the test of time.

if you're going to have new england have the Billy Bragg version IMO.

We are in agreement yet again young Claire!

That'd be 1983 then.

The 80's were just utter utter shite for music (charts i mean), but under the terms of this prop bet, you're lucky, as it's easy to pick out some gems, we can start with this..........

Simple Minds - waterfront was '83

Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills  1982
Motorhead - ace of spades 1980
Judas Priest - Breaking the Law  1980
Judas Priest - You've got another thing coming  1982
Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver 1982
Def Leppard - Photograph1982
Def leppard - Animal 1984
AC/DC - Who Made Who 1986
AC/DC - Heatseeker 1988

That'll do, I'm tired now........................

All's not lost as it depends on criteria you're using for selection on boys don't cry.

Original version was released in 1979 but was never a hit until they re-recorded and re-released it in 1986!

Blondie - Atomic 1980
Police - Every little Thing - 1981
Survivor - Eye of the Tiger 1982
Adam and the Ants - Good Two Shoes - 1982

Black Box - Ride on Time - 1989

Also from your current list I'd say "this charming man" was 1983 rather than 84 and "kind of magic" was 86 rather than 85 .

I'd also say "never too much" would be much later than 1981 but that may have been remix or something too

Think Abracadabra was 1982

Great thread btw.....must think of some of my own choices now

Ride on Time?

Two Tribes was a good track though.  One of the Top 10 best sellers of the 80s I believe.  I think Relax was second behind Band Aid's effort.

Ok here's mine (and I've had to agree with Kin on one of them!)

80 Going Underground - Jam
81 Prince Charming - Adam and the Ants
82 Jack and Diane - John Cougar Mellencamp
83 This Charming Man - Smiths
84 Do they know it's Christmas - Band Aid
85 You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive
86 Always the Sun - Stranglers
87 It's the end of the world as we know it - REM
88 Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
89 Here comes your man - Pixies

hmm not sure about dead or alive - probably come back and edit later!

sigh.  you think you've got problems with Kev Jane.  Matt's just looked at my list and he doesn't even know my 82, 83, 86, 88 or 89 songs!!!!

LOL I just know he has better taste in music than the rubbish he listed, ok it's not all rubbish but a great 80's list it isn't. I liked the tracks but it was nothing exceptional!

Jack and Diane I actually love (one of my first singles I bought myself) good pick IMO  :D

Matt's just had 15 minute music lesson via the medium of youtube.  he think the pixies are ok coz they did a song about a monkey :)

i cant help it if i missed most of the early 80's living abroad - then only remembering vagues bits about the rest of the decade. So my musical tastes are a little off track!

having listened to them on youtube still dont know 82, the smiths are 83 and as soon as i hear his voice i want to throw myself off a cliff lemming style. i wish i'd never heard 84, i now vaguely remember the chorus of 86. Still think 88 is sung by a bloke even though Claire put the video on youtube and dont recognize 89 either (though now i get the reference on the thread about having a pixies song being played when i visit the big jungle under the ground!)

and yes i can sing the whole of the Um Bongo TV ad.......... ;whistle;

Complete a CD of 12 track from the 1980's

have no more than one artist/group on any song

have a song from each year of the 80's

we will hand the cd's out to randoms and ask to jusge the best cd (11 cd's each)

All that and you don't want anything too 'poppy'

Well, I've held my breath, and seen the good, the bad, and the bloody rediculous posted, so here's my tuppence worth.

Again, I'm not putting down my faves,, and I've tried not to copy too many of other peoples ideas, but hopefully something that might help go ftw.

It can be changed about 4 times over depending on personal taste, but I hope you like a few of them anyway......

Too much too young - Specials - 1980.
Fascist Groove Thang - Heaven 17 - 1981
Town Called Malice - Jam  - 1982
Earth Dies Screaming - UB40 - 1980
This is Not a Love Song - PIL - 1983
E=MC2 - BAD -  1986
What Difference - Smiths - 1984
Shout - Tears for Fears - 1985
With or Without You - U2 - 1987
Need You Tonight - INXS - 1988
Poison - Alice Cooper - 1989
Fools Gold - Stone Roses - 1989

I'm happy with it up until What Difference, but then it all went a bit fuzzy until fools Gold.  They're all good tracks though, but I'm not sure how they'd gel on a cd together.

Still........
