Norton, since the day I got it I have NEVER had a problem of that nature and I used to get them all the time.

I had Norton for a while and the protection was good, but it used up a whole load of system resources, and made my computer take an age to boot up. Now I use Kaspersky, and its great. You barely know its running unless it finds a problem, and dealing with problems is a simple case of clicking yes when it asks you if you want to get rid of it.

I'd avoid Norton at all costs. I use NOD32 myself, Kapersky is also meant to be very good - don't know why you'd buy a 3rd party version of it though (or why they'd offer one).

Why don't you like Norton, Bongo? I gave up using it wayback after aforementioned resource-hogging.
I use AVG and the usual antispyware kits, seem to have been clean for a year now. Is AVG generally seen as weak?

Surely Kev's the man to ask?

*back on topic* I use AVG as well, after it was highly recommended about 18 months ago. Has it dropped performance?

Resource hogging, virus missing, problem causing... it's just utterly useless. Wasn't very impressed at their attempts to surreptitiously spam either.

Yes, I had a similar, but more serious problem.

I did also have Norton AntiVirus and hated it. I've since used AVG and had no problems at all. Can't understand why anyone would pay for AntiVirus.

I think Spyware Doctor is the best.

I had a serious problem and AVG wouldnt do the job.

avast is good, i runs quickly, its free. i've used it for over a year and never had any problems, also use spybot search and destroy for spyware which is free.

Perhaps that is because AVG is for Antivirus protection, and Spyware Doctor is for... spyware?

Not really the same thing, and Spyware Doctor won't do the job of an antivirus program (unless it's seriously changed since the last time I looked) If you haven't got an AV program running - get one!

I've heard it's the best of the free ones.  Better than AVG apparently (although I've never had a problem with that in the past). I use NOD32 now.

I had problems which Norton didn't seem capable of fixing, so I found and downloaded this for free and it sorted everything out in half an hour. No problems since.
