Title: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: KarmaDope on October 26, 2008, 03:26:01 PM That's Chelsea beat in their own back yard, Man Utd beat...and both games without Fernando Torres.
Now I actually think we have a chance of winning the league! In fairness i thought pool played very well today , really deserved the win, the goal was lucky but they played some lovely one touch stuff Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: The Baron on October 26, 2008, 04:00:54 PM What amazed me was Chelsea's lack of a plan B when the full backs were pinned in. They really missed Drogba and Cole as much as we'd miss Torres and Riera.
We were good value for 3 points but need to not let games go vs the Stoke's at home etc to sustain anything serious. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: kinboshi on October 26, 2008, 04:01:26 PM Could this be Liverpools year? We'll be challenging this year. Still a LONG way to go and a lot can change. We haven't been brilliant in a lot of the games this season. We've come back from going behind 5 times, which shows that the team has the battling spirit - but also highlights that the defence hasn't been as sound as it usually is. Beating both Chelsea and manu without Torres in the side shows that we're a stronger side than we've been for years, and they were two games when we did play well. Just hope that we're still up there in the running come May. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: gatso on October 26, 2008, 04:47:17 PM wp Liverpool, you get to join the illustrious group of clubs to have won at the bridge since mourinho took over
I think that's now 3 clubs, liverpool, barcelona and charlton Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: TheChipPrince on October 27, 2008, 09:27:17 AM wp Liverpool, you get to join the illustrious group of clubs to have won at the bridge since mourinho took over I think that's now 3 clubs, liverpool, barcelona and charlton Wasn't that a draw, technically? I watched the game on Sky Sports, funny, must have watching the wrong one... Dont remember Reina making a save all game - whilst Cech pulled off a great save from Gerrard and Alonso hit the post. Liverpool fully deserved the 3 points IMO. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: kinboshi on October 27, 2008, 11:04:36 AM liverpool were shite. lets be honest a flukey goal then 10 men behind the ball whilst they got battered.good defensive show though. Who had the best chances? Alonso's free-kick that beat the keeper completely, and Chelsea were very lucky that the ball ricocheted to a defender rather than to one of the two Liverpool players in front of the goal. There was Gerrard's shot that Cech saved in the first half, and a few other chances that were just off target. How many shots on target did Chelsea have? Liverpool also put together some great passing moves, including one that would have been an excellent goal if Gerrard's final pass to Babel had been as good as the rest of the build-up. Liverpool were up against the strongest squad in the league, at a ground where they hadn't lost in the league for over 4 years. I don't think Liverpool could have been 'shite' and got the win, surely that would disrespectful to Chelsea. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: Josedinho on October 27, 2008, 11:57:34 AM Both teams played quite well i thought. I don't think Chelsea were bad but after half time Liverpool looked like they could cope.
At 1-0 the longer the game went on the more Liverpool were always going to just "do a job" but still looked good when attacking with only 2 or 3 players at a time. Di Santo came on and gave Chelsea more options but there best chance probably fell to Ashley Cole who fluffed it. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: Horneris on October 27, 2008, 12:00:14 PM They miss Joe Cole imo.

chelsea lacked ideas and the desire and talent to get back into the game but that said liverpool defended well 2nd half. imo the signs were there against roma that they were struggling to break down well organised teams without a number of key players missing, they tore middlesboro apart but they were far from organised. chelsea miss drogba in these types of games, anelka is great against weak opposition but goes missing in big games more often than not. it must be a french thing as mouloda who has been in great form was non existant also. deco still is not fit from his injury and personally i would have started with him on the bench and played belletti in the middle of the park which would of released lampard more. chelsea missed cole, ballack, essien and drogba but credit to liverpool who played well without their biggest goal threat torres. the one plus for chelsea imo was the way the young argentinian di santo played, he came on and imediately showed desire and caused liverpool a threat aerially and looks one for the future if we are to continue with the full backs getting forward and getting crosses in. a long way to go before the end of the season, but liverpool have shown for the first time in years that they have the potential and the talent to challenge for the premiership title. I really like big Phil as the Chelsea manager, ok they didnt play there best at the weekend but who could without the players Paul mentioned. For the first time in years im actually enjoying watching Chelsea play. More attacking, aggressive football and no excuses and complaints after the game. This could well be the most open season in years. Keep an eye on villa Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on October 27, 2008, 05:28:50 PM Great post Paul, I really like big Phil as the Chelsea manager, ok they didnt play there best at the weekend but who could without the players Paul mentioned. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: 77dave on October 27, 2008, 05:56:50 PM i think you would be suprised Kev, Liverpools squad is as deep or deeper than Utds and Chelseas.
Reina arebeloa Skertal Carra Dossena Kuyt Gerrard Mascherano Reira Keane Torres Cavalieri Degen Agger Hyypia Aurelio Benayoun Alonso Lucas Pennant Babel Ngog Not a bad 2nd XI Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: Colchester Kev on October 27, 2008, 05:58:31 PM Maybe as deep, but I am more talking quality.

It will be United and Chelsea HU for the title again, Liverpool just dont have the depth of quality in their squad to be challenging for a full season imo. Agree. The difference in th squad players is the quality. Carrick, Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani, Tevez. Very good players. Malouda, Deco, Anelka, Kalou, Mikel. Very good players. BennyandJoon, Dossena, Degen, Lucas, Ngog, Pennant. Decent players but not too many match winners capable of stepping in for weeks on end. We need to be extremely lucky with injuries to win the title but this season we are getting the rub of the green so far. Title: Re: Liverpool beat Chelsea Post by: Colchester Kev on October 28, 2008, 01:07:00 AM Having seen Tevez live twice this season, I cannot believe he isnt a shoe in every game, the amount of graft he gets through in a game is immense, he is probably the hardest working player i have ever seen, his "off the ball" work is nothing short of amazing. or maybe its because his work rate is so high that he needs a rest... class player imo.
